pFOWLER – Dorothy J. (Bosley) Alton, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the United Helpers River Ledge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg./ppFuneral arrangements with French Funeral Home, Gouverneur, will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com./ppDorothy was born on January 30, 1920 in Piercefield, NY. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Rose (Gebo) Bosley. She graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1938 and from the Potsdam State College in 1942, majoring in elementary education./ppDorothy married Robert F. Alton on April 26, 1943 at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Star Lake with Father Bourbeau officiating. The couple raised three daughters and enjoyed square dancing with the Skirts & Flirts Club of Canton. Mr. Alton passed away on March 26, 1992./ppMrs. Alton was an elementary school teacher for the Balmat and Gouverneur Central schools for 25 years before her retirement in 1973. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church in Gouverneur where she was the organist for many years. Dorothy was also a member of the Gouverneur Retired Teacher’s Association. She enjoyed painting and one of her paintings will be donated to the Oswegatchie Coffee Company./ppHer survivors include her three daughters and two sons-in-law, Dianne C. and William Tuohy of Fowler, Suzanne and Allan Meyer of Fowler, and Judith Ann and David Sipher of Gouverneur; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. /ppDorothy is predeceased by her husband, Robert and a sister, Marie D. Hoover./ppDonations given in memory of Dorothy Alton may be made to the St. James Catholic Church or to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley./p
