pGENEVA – Mrs. M. Ruth Sanderson, 83, formerly of Geneva, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse./ppFriends may meet the family at the First United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 2, 2016, from 10 a.m. till 11 a.m. in the Cushman Chapel of the Church. /ppFuneral Services will follow in the Main Church at 11 a.m. Pastor Tae Kun Kim will officiate. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery./ppIf preferred, donations in her memory may be made to the Geneva Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. /ppThe first baby born in the Potsdam, N.Y. hospital ws the daughter of Ray & Kate Manfred. Martha Ruth. In 1950 “Ruth” married the love of her life, Carl J. Sanderson, from Canton and theirs was a union of 60 years. Ruth learned to be a seamstress while raising their family and taught sewing lessons for the Home Extension and to 4H students in the Canton area. She also operated an alteration business from home on Rt 11 until Carl’s job with Agway relocated them all to Geneva, N.Y. in 1970. There she continued her career eventually working at the Seneca Shop and the Finger Lakes Laundry. Additionally, she became involved with the Methodist Church serving as a Trustee and contributing hundreds of hours as a volunteer over many years./ppRuth and Carl enjoyed the company of many good friends and always enjoyed play cards, dancing, boating on the Finger Lakes, or host many fun filled celebrations at their home on Bennett St. Her children, friends, and many family members are recipients of her handiwork and crafted gifts or they have a piece of furniture she refinished and restored for them. She will be lovingly remembered as one who welcomed all to her home, for her wit, for her humor, for her ever caring nature./ppSurviving Ruth is her sister, E. Anne Prouty of Canton; her sister-in-law, Janet Seymour of Ogdensburg; and 12 nieces and nephews. She will always be missed by her 3 children; Paul (Debra) of Canton, Barbara Sisto of Canton, and Bruce (Andrea) of North Caldwell, NJ. She was an adoring grandmother to Lindsay, Patrick, and Jessica and visited them often in New Jersey. Last year, Ruth moved back to Canton to be near her son and daughter./ppRuth was predeceased by her husband in 2010 and by 3 children; Bryan, Shirley, and Cheryl. /ppArrangements have been entrusted to the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home./ppFor those wishing to write a note of condolence, please visit www.devaneybennettfh.com/p
