pGouverneur - Isaiah L. “Ike” Serviss, 72, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016 in Florida./ppA celebration of life will be held Sunday January 31st starting at 12:00 noon and a luncheon to be served at 1:00 pm at the Gouverneur VFW./ppIsaiah was born December 20, 1943 in Gouverneur, the son of Isaiah and Laura Mae Liscum Serviss./ppHe graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1962 and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy in which he served from 1962 until 1966. He served overseas in Vietnam in the Seabees and was a recipient of a Purple Heart medal./ppIke married Roxanne Prashaw on October 15, 1962./ppUpon his honorable discharge from the service, Ike was employed at CIVES Steel in the maintenance department and eventually became a supervisor. He worked at Viking CIVES in Harrisville as a plant manager and more recently served as superintendant of building and grounds for Gouverneur Central School district, retiring in July 2010./ppIke was a life member of the Gouverneur Rod & Gun Club and was past president of the Marble City Muzzleloaders. He served on the Gouverneur Central School Board of Education, Gouverneur Village Board, St. Lawrence County Fair Board, was a member of the Hook & Ladder Company of the Gouverneur Vol. Fire Department and the Exempts of the department./ppHe enjoyed the outdoors, where he could be found hunting in the woods, fishing on the lakes and rivers, or weeding in the garden. Ike also was known for his cooking talents, liked playing cards with the boys, spending winters in Florida, and enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his grandkids./ppIke is survived by his wife Roxanne, his children Martin and Catherine Serviss, Stephen Serviss, Natalie and Steven Young, Laura Mae Serviss, Suzanne and Darren Isereau, his grandkids Julia, Martin Jr., Stephen, and Staci Serviss, Isaiah Young, Daniel, Leesa, and Ryan Isereau, great grandkids Toni, Kori, and William, several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his siblings George Serviss, Curt Serviss, Laura Slate, and Virginia Cummings./p
