pLOWVILLE – Joanne Spann, 78, passed away Saturday evening, April 16, 2016, at her home, under the care of her family and Lewis County Hospice. /ppA graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016, in Martinsburg Cemetery, with Rev. David Shivers officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lewis County Hospital Foundation, for the Dialysis Unit, 7785 N. State St., Lowville, NY 13367. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. /ppShe is survived by her children, Joyce and George Frizzell of Boonville; Diane and Bob Wright of Lowville; Barb and Rod Turck of Groton, NY; Geraldine and Danny Ritz of Martinsburg; Dennis Morrison and his companion, Brenda Manor of Castorland; Lesley and Jim Hare of Lowville; a sister, Joyce Hilts of Canastota; 17 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, Dennis Spann, who died in November 1995; a grandson, Gregory Wright; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Hutchins; two sisters, June Plaum, and a baby sister, Marion Remington, who died in infancy; and by a brother, Clifford Warren Remington, Jr./ppJoanne was born on January 26, 1938 in Harrisville, NY, a daughter of the late Clifford Warren Remington, Sr. and Jean Emma Kitts Remington. She was raised by foster parents, Bernard and Beulah Rook, whom she grew to love dearly. She graduated from Lowville Academy in 1956. After her schooling, she moved to New Jersey, where she worked as a telephone operator. On November 23, 1957, she married Dennis N. Spann at the Turin Methodist Church parsonage, with Rev. Leon Bundy officiating. Joanne raised her family, and together with her husband, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on the West Road in Martinsburg for many years. She worked for Greystone Manor Restaurant, before working at The Central Hotel until her retirement./ppJoanne was a member of the Lowville Red Hatters, the Valley Homemakers, and the Lowville Senior Citizens.
