Stephen J. Pleskach

GLENFIELD - Stephen J. Pleskach, 92, formerly of Blue Street, died early Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility where he resided since October 2015.

Mr. Pleskach was born December 4, 1925 in Martinsburg the son of the late Stephen D. and Anastasia Ermola Pleskach. Stephen graduated from General Martin High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947 when he was honorably discharged. He married Shirley A. Guyette on September 22, 1951 at St. James Catholic Church, Carthage. Stephen and Shirley owned and operated The Friendly Tavern in Boonville in the 1950’s. He also worked various jobs and for the town of Martinsburg from 1974-77. Stephen then went to work for Lewis County General Hospital retiring from the Maintenance Department in 1993. He and Shirley made their home on Blue Street and she died on Friday, December 30, 2016.

He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny M. and Barbara Pleskach of Pittsburgh, PA; Larry S. and Joyce Pleskach of Brantingham; and Bart R. and Nancy Pleskach of Glenfield; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and five step-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth “Betty” Pleskach of Lowville and Barbara Guyette of Myrtle Beach, SC; many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, Charles, John and Alex; his sisters, Nina Vary, Helen Fetcie, Edith Lasher, Mary Roye, and Barbara Mazur.

Stephen was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield. He was an avid hunter and one of the founder’s of Split Rock Hunting Club in 1953, where he and Shirley enjoyed taking grandchildren, family and friends.

Calling hours for family and friends will be on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 4 to 7:00 P.M. at the Sundquist Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 17th at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Mr. Ronald Gingerich, Deacon officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Old Glendale Cemetery following the service.

Stephen’s family would like to thank all of the 4th floor staff, nurses, and doctors for the compassion and care given to their father.
