James W. Shelmidine

pLorraine- James Willis Shelmidine, 84, of Lorraine and husband to Christine Shelmidine, passed away Saturday morning on April 23rd at the Lewis County General Hospital where he had been a patient since April 19th. /ppThe funeral service will be 4 pm Tuesday, April 26th at the Lorraine United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Lorraine Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 2 pm until the time of the service at the church. /ppJames is survived by his wife Christine; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Beth, Lorraine; a daughter, Michele Bradberry, Lorraine; 2 grandchildren, Allison and James Bradberry and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Lester and Peter and a sister Esther Mellendorf./ppJames was born in Lorraine, September 1, 1931 a son to Willis and Irene Lane Shelmidine. Following his graduation from the Adams High School James served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. James worked as a mechanic for Plumpton Chevrolet and Palmer Motors in Watertown before opening his own business, Shelmidine Garage in Lorraine. /ppHe married Christine Allison September 4, 1954 in Watertown./ppJames was a member of the Lorraine United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher for 35 years, a lay speaker and lay member to the United Methodist Conference.
