pAudrey M. Spencer, 87 yrs. old, passed away Sat. May 21 at Samaritan Keep Home where she had resided the last 2 years./ppBorn April 7, 1929 in Dexter. She was one of 11 children born to Harold G. Sr. and Leta Roberts Esford. Raised in Dexter she attended Dexter High School./ppAudrey was married to Richard L. Spencer on April 21, 1947 at Dexter Methodist Church . The couple lived all their married life in Dexter until moving to Brownville in 2009. /ppShe was a reading aide to children at Dexter Elementary School until her retirement in 1984./ppAudrey’s first loves were her husband, daughters and their families . No matter what the day brought her way, “Grammie” always had a smile and kisses for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a friend to all. Who else would receive 72 cards for her birthday? She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crafts and was the “Queen” of the card game Frustration. /pp She was a member of Dexter United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Audrey oversaw the church’s annual turkey dinner for many years./ppShe was a former member of Vida Chapter Order of The Eastern Stars Sackets Harbor, Dexter Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Rustic Golf Club, Country Cousins Square Dance Group and Popular Women’s Bowling League./ppSince 1983 Audrey and Dick spent winters at their home in Lake Placid, Florida./ppAudrey is survived by her husband of 69 years, Dick, two daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Ashley of Alexandria Bay and Diane (Reg) Schweitzer of Chaumont. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren Daidre (Bryan) Fanis, Debbie (Brian) Jackson, Jennifer (Tony) Augliano, Terra Graffeo, Julie (Jamie) Chaltain and RJ (Hartley) Schweitzer, 1 Step Grandson Eric (Lori) Ashley, Great Grandchildren Calob (Brianna), Kyle, Jarod, Nicholas, Hayden, Garrett, Ethan, Victoria, Grayson, Trey, Maggie, Brady, Riley, Edie, Audrey and Hank, her sister Marjorie Distefano, brother William Esford, sister- in- law Ruth Duffany and several nieces and nephews./ppShe is predeceased by her mother and father, a sister Joyce and brothers Harold, Donald, Carlton, David, Robert, Timothy and Jack. /ppAudrey’s family would like to thank the 3rd Floor staff at Samaritan Keep Home. We feel blessed that Mom received such wonderful care while a resident there. Also, we will cherish the friendships we made. /ppA memorial service at Dexter United Methodist Church will be held on Sunday May 29th at 2:00pm.
