pDenmark - Edwin W. Sweet, 96, of Route 26, died Monday morning, May 23, 2016, in the Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville where he was a patient for one week./ppEd was born in Gillmore City, Iowa on October 11, 1919, the son of the late Judson and Julia Sauter Sweet. He was a 1937 graduate of Lowville Academy and attended the University of Baltimore. He married the former Bette M. Merriam on November 15, 1941 in Port Leyden. Bette passed away on July 21, 2008. Ed operated a dairy farm at his residence in Denmark for many years, retiring in 1970. /ppHe was a former director of the Carthage Federal Savings and Loan for 31 years, former member of Carlowden Country Club, Lowville Farmers Co-op, B.P.O.E. # 1762 of Carthage and the FHA. He was an avid card player. /ppHe is survived by a daughter and her husband: Patricia and Floyd Houck of Constableville, two sons and their wives: Thomas M. and Wendy Sweet and John C. and Jean Sweet all of Lowville, 6 Grandchildren; Susan Jones, Lisa Martin, Michael Houck, Tom Sweet, Julia Sweet and Catherine Galbraith, 12 Great Grandchildren and 2 nieces. Two brothers, Austin and Judson Sweet and a sister, Ruth Yoder died previously. /ppGraveside services for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 3rd at 11:00 AM in Martinsburg Cemetery with the Rev. Naomi Kelly, Pastor of the Forest Presbyterian Church in Lyons Falls officiating. There will be no calling hours.
