pJohn Theophilus DeVeau, Jr., 84, So. Main St., Ellisburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 25th with his wife Patricia by his side./ppThe funeral will be 1 pm Sunday, May 29th at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial with military honors will follow in the Ellisburg Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday, May 28th from 2 pm – 5 pm at the funeral home. Members of Rising Light Lodge F&AM, Belleville, will conduct a memorial service 5 pm Saturday at the funeral home./ppJohn is survived by his wife Patricia; his step children Steven Connelly, Natural Bridge; Kimberly Mulcahy, Fulton; Mark (Sandy) Connelly, Felts Mills; Michael Connelly, Dexter; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; a biological grandson Steven Gibeau, Houston, TX; a sister Yvonne (William) Mallory, Stamford, CT; a sister-in-law Linda DeVeau, Albuquerque, NM./ppHe is predeceased by his son Paul, two daughters Edith DeVeau and Judy (DeVeau) Bishop, and a brother Adrian DeVeau./ppHe was born in Brooklyn, NY, September 12, 1931, a son to John and Edythe Grosbauer DeVeau. He graduated from Freeport High School on Long Island. In 1946 at age 16, he received the Youth of Merit Award for rescuing a man from a burning boat. He enlisted in the US Navy on September 24, 1951 until his honorable discharge on September 8, 1955. He retired from the Naval Reserves after 20 years with the rank of Petty Officer First Class. John continued his education at Farmingdale College on Long Island following his military service./ppJohn worked for the Dayton T. Brown Environmental Test Lab at Bohemia, LI. In 1969, moved to Felts Mills to work at General Signal in Watertown in the Dyna Power Strata Power division as a hydraulic test engineer, retiring in 1993. John continued to work for the Town of Ellisburg after retiring from General signal./ppJohn married Patricia Gorman Connelly in 1977. The couple moved to Ellisburg in 1987. Mr. and Mrs. DeVeau traveled extensively with their 5th wheel camper throughout the US from1999 until the present and was a member of the retired military travel club (SMART)./ppHe was a member of Rising Light Lodge F&AM, Belleville. John was a member of volunteer fire service since 1950. He was a member of the Ellisburg Fire Department, serving as fire chief from 1987-1989./ppJohn was a Ham radio operator under the call sign N2XSW.
