Vida Parker Putnam, age 93, Conger Ave., Watertown passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

Vida was born December 18, 1923 in New Zealand.

Survivors include a daughter Cindy (Dave) Soyka, Poughkeesie, NY; sons Dennis (Lynn) Parker, Sackets Harbor, Allan (Susan) Parker, Port Leyden, Barry Parker, Pulaski; stepdaughters Marcia Putnam, Brownville and Lynn Kelley, Watertown.

Vida married Ken Parker in 1943. Ken died in 1956.

Vida married Harold Putnam in 1961. Harold died in 2001.

Vida’s passions were dancing, knitting and her coffee group at the Crossroad’s Diner.

Vida donated her body to Upstate Medical Center for research.

There will be no funeral or services.

Phyllis A. Lowe

The memorial service for Phyllis A. Lowe will be private. Mrs. Lowe of 120 State St. Clayton, NY died February 26, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. She was 77.

Mrs. Lowe was born August 15, 1939 in Theresa, NY the daughter Frank and Mary A. Van Alstyne Larkin. She graduated from Clayton Central School and later would earn her nurses degree from the Watertown SNo, I guesschool of Nursing.

She married Ernest Lowe on August 24, 1959 in Clayton, NY with the Rev. Fred I. Williams officiating. Mr. Lowe died February 19, 2013.

She worked as a nurse at E. J. Noble Hospital in Alexandria Bay, NY. She also worked as a waitress for several restaurants including McCormick’s, the Rondette in Clayton, and she also worked in the cafeteria of the Thousand Islands Central School.

Mrs. Lowe was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxillary Post 821 and was a past member of the Clayton Fire Dept. Auxillary, which is a family tradition.

She enjoyed bingo, going to the casino, spending quality time with her grandchildren and her great grandson. Mrs. Lowe was a gifted writer of poems in which many of her writings were used on the Clayton Fire Dept. float in the Clayton Christmas parade.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law Ray and Tracy Lowe of Clayton, her three grandchildren Courtney Lowe of Jacksonville, FL, Daniel Lowe of Clayton and Tiffany Lowe of Watertown, NY. She is also survived by her only great grandson Noah Lowe of Clayton, NY.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to the Clayton Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxillary.

Leonard C. Montroy

Brasher Falls- Mr. Leonard C. Montroy Sr., 83, peacefully passed away on Monday February 27, 2017 at his son and daughter-in-laws home surrounded by the support and care of his family and hospice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop.

Leonard was born in Massena on October 19, 1933 to the late Barney A. and Susie K. (McGovern) Montroy. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from St. Lawrence Central High School. Leonard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952-55.

After his honorable discharge, Leonard married Sarah B. Hightower on December 7, 1955 in Georgia. They shared a devoted union of 59 years until the time of Sarah’s passing on January 28, 2015.

For 30 years Leonard worked at Reynolds Metals in Massena, in the pot rooms and then as a foreman in the cast house; where he was known by all as “Lenny Montroy”. He was also a member of the United Steelworkers Union.

In earlier years he enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. Leonard was also a skilled craftsman who took pleasure in woodwork, spending time in the shop with his son Leonard Jr.

He is survived by 2 daughters and a son-in-law: Ramona and Chris Binan of Parishville, and Rachael Montroy of Cape Coral, FL; his son and daughter-in-law, Leonard C. and Penny Montroy Jr. of Brasher Falls; his grandchildren: Jason Montroy, Jackson Binan, Gabrielle Barbeau, Jennifer Barbeau, Tonya Cole, Derek Montroy, and Kyle Montroy; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Burke of Canton, and a brother, Calvin D. Montroy of Sumiton, AL.; survivors also include many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his wife and parents, Leonard was predeceased by his brothers: Carlton, Charles A., Patrick, Clarence W., Bernard “Joe”, Clifford, and Clayton A. Montroy; and his daughter, Rebecca L. Montroy who passed away on October 8, 2012.

Calling hours will be Friday evening from 6 to 8pm and Saturday from 11am-1pm. Leonard’s Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be Saturday March 4th at 1:00pm at the conclusion of calling hours, with Certified Celebrant Julia O’Brien.

Deferiet, NY: Barbara Ventiquattro passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at St Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica after a brief illness.

Barbara was born on February 27, 1933 to the late Ernest and Rose Cook in Antwerp, NY. Her family later settled in Carthage, NY where Barbara graduated from Carthage High School in 1951. On December 24, 1954 Barbara was united in marriage with Thomas Ventiquattro, a union lasting nearly 43 years until his passing in 1997.

Together Barb and Tom raised their four boys in Deferiet, NY. Barbara worked for Ames Department Store in Watertown before taking a job at the Deferiet Post Office in 1965. She was promoted to Post Master of the Deferiet Office and retired from that position in 1995. She and her husband also ran a successful gas station business in Deferiet (24 Gas) for twenty years.

Barbara took great pride in her work and family. Her favorite hobbies were knitting, playing the slots with her sister and friends but most of all she enjoyed holding her grand babies and great grand babies. In addition to her husband, Barbara was predeceased by five brothers, Walter, Raymond, Clair, Richard and Leroy Cook and three sisters, Janice Cook, Hattie Stephenson and Dora Pierce.

She is survived by two sisters, Bessie Cook Trembley of Carthage and Ruth Cook Ventiquattro of Sherrill. She is also survived by her four sons and their families, Thomas and Patricia Ventiquattro and children Barbara and Thomas from Burke, NY, Domenick and Lynne Ventiquattro and their children and spouses Laura (Ventiquattro) Puleo and husband Phil Puleo, and Americo and wife Jessica Ventiquattro all from the Boonville area, Kirk and Carmelita Ventiquattro of Deferiet and their children Anthony and Mario, both of Florida and Paul and Denise Ventiquattro and their sons Jordan, Thomas and Nicholas all of Miller Place, NY.

She is also survived by her four great grandchildren and little buddies, Domenica and Armante Ventiquattro and Domenick and DeAngelo Puleo.

Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, 518 State St. Carthage, will be from 11:00am - 1:00pm on Saturday, March 4, 2017 with a memorial service to follow at 1:00pm.

THERESA - Ida A. Hamilton, 87, of NYS Rt. 37, died February 25, 2017 at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, Lowville, NY.

Born on April 10, 1929 in Redwood, NY, she was a daughter of Edwin and Etha Thornton Rogers and attended Redwood schools.

Ida married Clifford L. Hamilton on March 13, 1949 at the Hammond home of her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hamilton, with Rev. W. Halbert Campbell, officiating. Mr. Hamilton died November 6, 1998.

She worked as a house cleaner and farmer for many years and she cleaned the Evans Mills Town Barn, Evans Mills Library, Evans Mills Post Office and Theresa Post Office.

Ida enjoyed reading, feeding her chipmunks and was a friendly to all animals.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Stiles and companion Thomas Levison, Adams Center, NY and Sharon Hamilton and husband Paul Ballentine, Fair Haven, VT; two sons, Clifford Hamilton, Jr. and companion Fern Corp, Evans Mills, NY and Neil Hamilton and his wife Debra, Watertown, NY; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Lois and William Burns, Philadelphia, NY, Carol and Virgil Shampine, Antwerp, NY, Sheila and Larry Groff, Watertown, NY, Brenda Macauley, Gouverneur, NY, Etha “Holly” and Raymond Cobb, Carthage, NY; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Tom and Faith Rogers, Harrisville, NY, Lyle and Mayford Rogers, Summerville, NY and David Rogers, Ocala, FL; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her parents, her husband, a son, Paul Hamilton, two brothers, Warren Rogers, Cecil Rogers, two sisters, Iva Moyer and Bertha Marcellus all died before her.

A Celebration of Life will be 1-3 pm Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the Philadelphia United Methodist Church, 19 Main Street, Philadelphia, NY. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa, NY at a later date.

Helen R. Valler

Helen R. Valler of Fulton passed away at Michaud Residential Health Services, Fulton on February 25, 2017. She was born in Brockville, Canada to the late Kenneth and Violet (Graham) Sherman. Mrs. Valler has been a lifetime resident of Pulaski, NY before coming to Fulton to live in 2015. She retired from Lincoln Bank, Pulaski, NY after several years of service as a bookkeeper and teller. Mrs. Valler was a past member of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Ladies and the Lincoln Bank Retirees. She was pre-deceased by her husband George Valler, her sister Beulah Huxter and her brother Clifton Sherman. Mrs. Valler is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Charles Laginess of AL, and granddaughter Reenie and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Valler will be buried privately at North Watertown Cemetery, Watertown, NY. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family. Patricia A. Brown, 79 of Allen Road Watertown passed away Wednesday morning at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown; where she had been a resident since 2013.

Patricia was born May 20, 1937 in Watertown, the daughter of Bonaparte and Hazel Wood Kalk. She graduated from General Brown High School.

Patricia married Richard A. Brown Sr. on June 8, 1958. The couple lived in Perch River where she was a homemaker.

Surviving are two children and their spouses: Karen and Michael Monahan of Perch River and Richard and Rosalyn Brown of Watertown. Five grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, sisters: Addie Dano of Perch River and Lillian Hunt of Evans Mills, brothers George Kalk of Carthage and Howard Kalk address unknown and nieces and nephews also survive.

She was predeceased by her husband Richard 10/03/2016 and also brothers Lawrence and Ronald Kalk.

Funeral service will be Friday at 2:00 PM at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter with Rev. Sally Buyea of the First United Methodist Church of Dexter officiating. Barbara A. Bishop Flath, age 77 of Mullin Road, Dexter, passed away Tuesday evening at Summitt Nursing Home in Watertown.

Barbara was born March 18, 1939 in Watertown, the daughter of Harry and Hazel Marks Bishop. She graduated from Brownville/ Glen Park High School in 1957 and in 1985 she graduated from JCC with a Registered Nurse degree.

Barbara worked as a Registered Nurse at Samaritan Medical Center retiring in 2000. She was also Deputy Town Clerk in Brownville for several years.

Barbara was a member of the Dexter American Legion Auxiliary.

She married Wendell W. Flath Sr. on July 18, 1958 at the Stone Street Presbyterian Church in Watertown.

Surviving her is her husband Wendell, two sons: Wendell Flath Jr. and his wife Becky of Dexter, Steven (Michael) Flath of LaFargeville, 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.. A brother Richard Bishop of Natural Bridge and a sister Marie Cuty of Louisiana also survive along with nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son Richard “Dickie” Flath and a grandson Richard Flath.

Funeral service will be Saturday 1:00 P.M. at the Johnson Funeral Home. Calling hours will be Friday evening from 6-9 P.M. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery in the spring. The funeral for Marjorie L. Perrotta will be 1:00pm Saturday, March 4th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown. Spring burial will be held in Brownville Cemetery at a date and time yet to be determined. Calling hours will precede the service at the funeral home beginning at 11:00am.

Marjorie passed away February 24th at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. She was 87 years old.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Brenda Lunderman and Barbara McCave, both of Henderson; a son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Sue Silsby of Adams; 4 sisters, Emma McNamara, Eleanor Maitland, Cindy Russell, Icaleen Fitzgerald; and 3 brothers, Ray Castor, Edwin Castor Jr., Lee Castor. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.

Born in Oswego July 14, 1929 she was a daughter to Edwin O. Sr. and Leola (Cross) Castor. She graduated from Adams Center High in 1947. She worked as a cashier for Colonial Courts Campgrounds, a time keeper at the New York Air Brake, and, more recently, worked at Walmart in Central Square.

Marjorie was an avid bowler. She enjoyed canning food, crafts, snowmobiling, and the time she spent in Florida.

She is predeceased by 2 sisters, Sylvia Pulis and Frances Perry, and 2 brothers, Albert and Phillip Castor.

Albertha Jewel Benz Miller, always lovingly known as “Tyke”, from De Kalb Junction, passed away at Canton-Potsdam Hospital on February 27th, 2017 with her loving family by her side at age 85. Tyke was born in Buffalo, NY on September 11th, 1931 to Joseph Francis Benz and Helen Winifred Felton Benz. She married John Marchel Miller, Jr. “Jack” on January 25, 1952 at Central Church of Christ, Disciple in Buffalo, N.Y.

Surviving are her son John Marchel Miller, III of De Kalb Jct., NY; daughters Holly Helen Miller of Rochester, NY and Lynn Jewel Miller of De Kalb Jct., NY; Also, granddaughter, Kelly Krista Maas (Scott) of Rochester, NY; grandson Paul “P.J.” Joseph Miller (Amanda) of Plattsburgh, NY; two great grandchildren Kaylee Amelia Maas and Logan Scott Maas, both of Rochester, NY; step great grandson Riley James Palmer of Plattsburgh, NY; niece Deborah Driscoll of Baltimore, MD; nephew Dennis (Julie) Oscar of West Bend, WI; nephew Douglas (Janene) Oscar of Kenmore, NY; niece Kimberly (Rich) Bradway of Stockbridge, MA; nephew Todd (Susan) Seeber of Wayland, MA; and brother- in-Law Keith Seeber of Fort Plain, NY. She was predeceased by her husband Jack after 63 years of a very loving and happy marriage. She was also predeceased by her sisters June Marie Oscar and Eunice Helen Elliston; sister-in-law Carolyn Miller Seeber; and nephew Kyle Seeber.

Musically inclined in high school she was the Violin Concert Mistress in Buffalo and at Fosdick-Masten High School. Always committed to her faith, she served as a Sunday School teacher as a teenager and was the Buffalo City Fair Chair of the raffle for the Home Economics Booth quilt. Her first job was at Camp Twa-ne-ko-tah on Chautauqua Lake, NY during the summers in high school and college as the 2nd cook. There she was responsible for vegetables, desserts, and salads for 250 to 500 campers. She attended SUNY Buffalo and was an active member of their Home Economics Club and in the Student Christian Association, where she met Jack. For 10 years she was the Brownie and Junior Girl Scout leader in Huntington, NY. Tyke taught Girl Scout leaders camping and craft skills and also taught cake decorating to senior Girl Scouts. She served as a Deacon at the Old First Presbyterian Church of Huntington, Long Island and was a confirmation class Parent Advisor for three years. She was also a Parent Advisor for the 7th and 8th grades; “Niners” and Tuxis groups for the senior high school students. Tyke was also the Chairman of the Fall Church Bazar, and taught arts and crafts and Vacation Bible School in Levitown, NY and in Huntington, NY. Notably, among her many accolades she was the first woman to receive the Martha Washington medal from the Suffolk County Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) for helping with their Chapter fundraisers for 18 years.

Tyke and Jack have lived on the family farm “The House that Jack Built” in De Kalb Jct., NY for 38 years. With their son John III, they raised and sold pigs and goats for 25 years and have had large gardens, and ran the family business “Miller Family Colonial Museum”. Tyke was a terrific cook, excelled in baking, making hundreds of cookies, fruit cake, and candies every Christmas, and loved to share her baked goods with many people including the “The American Shakespeare Center” for the last 20 years and the “Billy Martin’s Cole All Star Circus” for many years when they came to town. Tyke began sewing as a child and continued her love of sewing and hand crafts such as knitting, crocheting, and quilting for her whole life. She was a member of The Seaway Cruisers Classic Car Club and The Wolcott Family Society.

Tyke was a member of the First Presbyterian Church on The Park, Canton, NY for 38 years. She was a sitting Elder on their Session for 6 years, the Communion Chairperson for 14 years, as well as volunteering to coordinate their lobby bulletin board for 14 years. She introduced a special candle light Maundy Thursday service which continues to this day and received their Woman of the Year award in 2011. In addition to her work with the church, she was the President of the Presbyterian Women and a voting delegate to the national Presbyterian Woman in the 1980’s when Northern and Southern Presbyterians merged again. She also served as the Secretary of the Presbyterian Women of SYNOD of Northern NY.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 21 Park Street, Canton. Her funeral will be celebrated on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Canton with Michael P. Catanzaro officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Barbara A. Bishop Flath, age 77 of Mullin Road, Dexter, passed away Tuesday evening at Summitt Nursing Home in Watertown.

Edgar Eells Jr.

Funeral service for Edgar Eells Jr., 90, of Russell, will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 1:00pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton with his grandson, Robert LaClair, officiating. Burial will be in the South Russell Cemetery. Edgar passed away peacefully, while in the company of family on Thursday, March 02, 2017 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Sunday, from 11:00am until the time of the service. Contributions in his memory may be made to Meals-On-Wheels or the Russell Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Edgar is survived by four step-daughters, Virginia (Robert) LaClair of Morristown; Avon Palmer of Elmira Heights; Laverne (Reuben) Sero of Russell and Faye Menineger of Syracuse. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, several grand and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a sister, Cora Bice, of Canton.

Edgar is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary, his parents, and six siblings; James “Calvin”, Jason, Charles “Milton”, Herbert Eells, Jane Paro and Inez Downer.

Edgar was born February 5, 1927 in Pierrepont, the son of Edgar and Gertrude (Sibley) Eells. He attended the Stone School House in Pierrepont to the eighth grade. On September 6, 1966, Edgar married Mary Bice in Wompsville, NY with the Justice of the Peace officiating. Edgar was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator at J& L Mines, a farm hand, a truck driver for Harry Harmer, and worked for the St. Lawrence County Office of the Aging on a mail route. Edgar served his country in WWII during the Pacific Theatre Operation from, 1945 until 1947, when he was honorably discharged.

Edgar enjoyed hunting, fishing and cutting wood. He loved the out of doors and sitting in the sunshine. Most of all, Edgar was a devoted husband, caring for Mary day in and day out while she suffered through dementia in her final years.

Francis M. Todd

Born November 5, 1923, Francis Malcolm Todd of Canton, New York, passed away peacefully at home in Florida on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the age of 93. Francis grew up as a dairy farmer in Pierrepont, New York, and was one of eight children born to the late Austin and Flossie Mae (Robinson) Todd. He attended Canton Central School where he met his future wife Arloween (Taylor) Todd on the school bus. They were married on January 6, 1943 and remained together for over 65 years.

In addition to owning a farm in Canton, Francis worked with his father at Todd Motor Sales and The Canton Speedway throughout the early 50’s before going out on his own to start a newspaper franchise which included the Syracuse Herald and Post Stand.

Francis was a devoted father to eight sons: Keith, Dahl, Alan, Lynn, Neil, Paul, Mark, and Evan. He is survived by his brother Richard, sisters Avis and Eleanor, sister in laws Mary Todd, Julie Todd, Joan Todd, and Connie Taylor, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. Francis was preceded in death by his siblings Albert, Lawrence, James, and Thelma, his son Dahl, and wife Arloween.

Francis was truly a family man, always making time for the important events in everyone’s life; he never missing a graduation, performance, or wedding. An avid bowler and shuffleboard player, Francis will be known for his easter egg hunts, family reunion softball games, pool parties, and for teaching his grandkids to play “up and down the river” without ever letting them win. Francis was a loving man and will be remembered in the hearts of everyone who knew him.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of Francis Todd at his viewing on Saturday, March 4th from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at Lawrence Funeral Home, 21 Park St, Canton, NY 13617. The funeral service will be held at the same location the following day, Sunday, March 5th, at 1:00pm. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Chambers of Lowville; one sister, Nettie Emery of Costa Rica; three brothers, Nick Chambers of Lowville; Cody Hoch of Beaver Falls; Hayden Hoch of Indiana; maternal grandmother, Nettie (Rick) Brosge of Indiana; maternal grandfather, Bruce Emery of Indiana; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins as well as a large extended family. She is predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Glenn and Shirley Chambers.

Amanda was born on September 25, 1986 in Syracuse, NY, a daughter of Robert G. and Deanna K. Emery Chambers. She attended Beaver River Central School.

She enjoyed music, coloring, visiting with family and friends and most of all, spending time with her children.

LOWVILLE- Joyce B. Steria, 85, of South State Street, died Wednesday afternoon, March 1, 2017 at home under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., with Pastor Bruce Roggie officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Croghan Mennonite Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home, prior to the funeral service.

She is survived by five children, Darlene Michalski of Lowville; Bruce V. Steria of Martinsburg; Donald R. Steria of Blossvale; Victor D. Steria and his lifetime partner Anthony Philips of Keystone Heights, Florida; Tina Kaler of Lowville; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband Victor Steria, who died on April 10, 1999; a son, Kenneth P. Steria who died in April of 2006; a daughter, Tammy L. Steria, who died shortly after birth; a sister, Carol Houppert and a brother, Ralph Cobb Sr.

Joyce was born on April 11, 1931 in Syracuse, NY, a daughter of the late Merwin and Olive Northrup Cobb. She attended Lowville Academy. On December 15, 1948 she married Victor Steria at Lowville Methodist Church Parsonage. She then worked to raise her family. Together with her husband, the couple owned and operated 21 dairy farms in Lewis County.

She loved flowers, flower gardening, and sitting on her porch enjoying the sunshine. She also enjoyed going for car rides and shopping.

Funeral services for Francis A. Morrison Sr. age 81 of Lisbon, will be held on Sunday (March 5, 2017) at 4:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Lay Speaker Scott LaBarge officiating.

Calling hours will be held also on Sunday from 12:00pm until the time of the funeral. Francis died Thursday (March 2, 2017) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Surviving are his children Francis Morrison Jr., Lee (Angie) Morrison both of Lisbon, Janice (Evan) Poole of Canton, Eleanor (Elmer) Parmeter of Lisbon and Amy Morrison of Ogdensburg; a brother James Morrison of Canton; a sister Helen Smithers & her companion Roy Sharlow of Heuvelton; grandchildren Elmer & Emily Parmeter, Matthew & Melinda Morrison, Karen (Vinny) Ballester, Sharon Poole and Ellymae Rathburn.

He was predeceased by his wife Doris, a brother Carl Morrison, a sister Jane Winters, a sister-in-law Dorothy Morrison and a grandson Sam St. Pierre.

Francis was born on February 18, 1936 in Lisbon NY, a son of the late Orrin & Flora (Burnside) Morrison. He attended Lisbon Country School and Lisbon Central for his education. He later married Doris F. Fuller on July 22, 1954 with Rev. Jock officiating their marriage.

Francis owned and operated a dairy farm in Lisbon for many years and concurrently worked at Hacketts Hardware, Ken Dawley’s, Trimm’s Automotive, John McBath’s and Winter’s Milk Hauling during his working years. He was an active volunteer fireman with the Lisbon Fire Department for 56 years, and he enjoyed repairing things of all kinds, being around people, square dancing, snowmobiling, racing motorcycles and stock cars, watching hockey games in Canada, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

THREE MILE BAY, NY- Mary J. Briggs, 82, of Three Mile Bay passed away on Thursday March 2, 2017 at her home surrounded by friends and family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.

Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Cleveland Funeral Home, Chaumont.

Mary J. Briggs was born on May 21, 1934 in Watertown, NY. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Stella (Leavery) Smith. She was a 1951 graduate of Watertown High School. On December 20, 1986 she married Joseph J. Briggs, who passed away on December 30, 2015. Among many jobs her favorite was being a telephone operator at Bell Telephone Company.

She enjoyed knitting, reading, yard sales, working the election poles and visiting with friends.

She is survived by her children Diane (Mike) Cross of Redbud IL, Robert Gannon of Ohio, Barbara (Ted) Gannon-Davie of Ohio and Michelle (Antone) Auske of Ohio; stepson, Joseph Jay Briggs of Evans Mills. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Anthony and Bobby Auske, Danny and David Price, Robert and Michael Gannon; many great grandchildren; nieces Sue and Sara; and her BFF, Miranda Collins.

Along with her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by a brother, Robert Smith.

Jeanne Washburn, 95, passed March 1, 2017 at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she had been a resident.

Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service. The burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in the spring.

Born on March 21, 1921 in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of Adolph and Marguerite (Babineau) Le Blanc, she attended school in New Brunswick, Canada. Following school she served in the Canadian Army for a short time and was stationed in Montreal.

She married Harry W. Washburn, of Watertown, on January 6, 1948 in Watertown. The couple continued to reside in Watertown where she was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking.

Mr. Washburn worked at NY Air Brake, in the foundry for over 35 years, retiring in 1968. He passed October 3, 1994.

Among her survivors are her two sons and their wives, Brian and Karen Washburn, Canton, NY, Gary and Susan Washburn, Boise, Idaho and Henderson Harbor, NY; two sisters and their husbands, Dorice and Leo LeBlanc, Ruth and Donald Donelle, Dieppe, New Brunswick, Canada; five grandchildren, Christopher, Elizabeth, Courtney, Trevor, and Barry; several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by three brothers, Adolphe, Edouard and Henri LeBlanc; seven sisters, Yvonne Allain, Stella LeBlanc, Emelie Richard, Lucy Marcotte, Zelma Doiron, Eveline LeBlanc and Juliette LeBlanc.
