Donald L. Adams
Canton – Donald L. Adams, 84, died on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the United Helpers Maplewood Nursing Home where he had been a resident since May of 2016.
Don is survived by his children, Stephen (Lynn) Adams of Lakeland, FL.; John (Mary) Adams of Tampa, FL.; Susan (Keith) Caswell of Madrid; by a niece and nephew, Carolyn and Stuart Underwood of Stratton, VT; his former spouse and caregiver, Cindy Adams of Potsdam and several grand and great-grandchildren.
Don is predeceased by his parents and a sister, Madeline Brazer and his first wife and mother of the children, Joanne (Rockey) Adams.
Don was born August 29, 1932 in Ogdensburg, the son of Harold and Amy (Perry) Adams. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1950. On April 27, 1951, Don enlisted with the US Air Force, serving four years prior to being Honorably Discharged on April 12, 1955. Following his discharge, Don began working for New York Telephone where he was a cable splicer and Test Desk Technician, retiring in 1986.
Don enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially fishing on the St. Lawrence River. He was a member of the Hanson Pond Hunting Club of Tupper Lake.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the United Helpers Nursing Home, 205 State Street Road; Canton, NY 13617 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley; 6805 US Highway 11; Canton, New York 13676. There will be no services at this time. Arrangements are being made for burial on the family plot in Stratton, Vermont.

ROSSIE-- Keegan Ashton Donovan, 16, of South Woods Rd., passed away Monday, March 6, 2017.
Born on June 17, 2000 in Watertown, NY, he was the son of Jeremy Donovan and Theresa McCartha. He was a junior at Hammond Central School.
He enjoyed basketball, soccer and baseball and he was passionate about art and music.
Survivors include his parents; a sister, Koral Donovan, at home; paternal grandparents, Michael and Renee Donovan, Redwood, NY; maternal grandfather, Richard McCartha, LaFargeville, NY; maternal grandmother Darlene McCartha and her companion, Bruce Hutton, Rossie, NY; an uncle John Donovan, Redwood; an aunt Ann Donovan, Redwood, NY; a first cousin, Ian Donovan, Redwood, NY; numerous friends that he considered family.
An uncle, Keith “Mac” McCartha died previously.
Funeral Services will be 4 pm Monday, March 13, 2017 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY with Pastor David Sheppard of the First Congregational Church of Morristown, officiating. A reception will be after services at the Rossie Community Center, South Hammond Rd., Rossie, NY. Burial will be in Rossie Cemetery at a later date.

Funeral services for Eleanor “Ellie” R. Teele, age 90, formerly of Lisbon, will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday (Mar 11, 2017) at the First Congregational Church of Lisbon with Pastor Andrea Mericle officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the White Church Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Teele passed away on Wednesday (Mar 8, 2017) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving are her children Stephen (Gail) Teele of Lisbon, Randall (Diana) Teele of Lisbon and Donna (Steve) Demick of Hammond; grandchildren Jonathan (Naomi) Teele, David Teele & companion (Lyne Beauchamp), Brittany (Dustin) Terry, Bridget (Kris) Moody, Briana Teele, Jacqueline (Justin) Lipsky, Matthew (Gillian) Russell, Benjamin (Brandy) Demick, Rebecca (Dustin) Hallman, Gregory (Arielle) Demick, Melissa (Brian) Schnell, Daniel Demick, Jeremy Demick and William Demick; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and five more on the way. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Teele) Rotman and Tina Hill.
Her husband Jonathan W. Teele Jr.; son Jonathan Teele III and a daughter Deborah Russell predeceased her.
Ellie was born on July 18, 1926 in Lowell MA, a daughter of the late Roland & Marguerite (Berry) Hill. She graduated from Lowell High School and continued her education at the Lowell School of Business. She later married Jonathan W. Teele Jr. on Aug 28, 1948 in Lowell MA.
In 1959 the couple relocated to Lisbon, NY when they started a dairy farm. Following the untimely death of her husband and son in 1967, Ellie rented the farm out until she sold it in 1972. She began working at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center as a secretary from 1968 to 1993 when she retired.
Ellie was a member of the First Congregational Church of Lisbon where she was involved as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, child care provider, treasurer of Camp Laurent and active member of the Women’s Fellowship Group. She was also an active volunteer for Hospice and enjoyed babysitting for her grandchildren, hiking, being on the ocean, traveling and enjoying her dog, Snoopy. Ellie loved helping neighbors and friends in time of need. She even started a little widows’ group that met often for years, which made for some very dear friends.

Richard J. Martin
CARTHAGE -- Richard J. Martin, 79, beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, died March 7, 2017 following a months’ long battle with kidney disease. He was born September 1, 1937 to Richard S. and Mary R. (Turpin) Martin in Carthage, New York. He graduated from Augustinian Academy in 1954 before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force that same year. He served 10 years in administrative assignments at various locations world-wide.
Following his enlistment he went to work for the State of California Franchise Tax Board and later worked for the IRS. After his retirement, he lived briefly in the Atlanta area before returning to Carthage where he made his home with his lifelong companion and partner Rita Cain. During the winter months, they enjoyed spending time in their ocean side condominium in Myrtle Beach, SC where they renewed their friendship with the many acquaintances they made while vacationing there. Rita passed away in 2015 and Richard continued to visit the condominium during the winter months.
It was there during Christmas 2016 that Richard was taken ill and diagnosed with kidney failure. He was released in the care of his sisters, Carol and Mary, who live in nearby Canton, GA. His conditioned worsened in the succeeding weeks and was placed in hospice care prior to his death. The love and compassion of his sisters who tended to his daily needs during this difficult transition is beyond measure. They are special to all of us and made his final days a time of peace and comfort.
Richard and Rita enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and family around the country. He was very fond of his children, grandchildren, and growing family of nieces and nephews whom he all remembered at special occasions throughout the year. They all recall him fondly as their Uncle Turkey, a name he inherited from his nieces Robyn and Brooke whom he playfully teased as youngsters. While in Carthage Richard regularly volunteered at the Carthage Area Hospital and enjoyed reading and visiting family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary, a brother Edward, and his lifelong partner Rita. He is survived by sisters Carol Gentle, Mary Martin (Jim Kenton), brother James (Taunya), daughter Kathy and granddaughter Emily Gorrell of Sacramento, CA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Calling hours will be held at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St. on Tuesday evening March 21, 2017 from 6 – 8 p.m. Burial will be in the New St. James Cemetery, Carthage.

Sandra L. Newton
The funeral for Sandra L. Newton 71, 18139 Jefferson Court Circle, Adams Center will be Saturday March 11, 2017 in the chapel of TLC Funeral Home, Inc. at 1:00 p.m. There will be a calling hour from 12-1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral. Ms. Newton died at the Samaritan Medical Center on March 7, 2017.
She was born January 24, 1946 in Watertown, NY the daughter of Christopher and Doris Loomis Newton. She graduated from Mannsville High School. She received her certification to drive tractor trailers from the National Tractor Trailer School.
A marriage to Elmer Parish ended in divorce.
Ms. Newton was a switchboard operator for Samaritan Family Health as well as Samaritan Medical Center working in medical records. She enjoyed crocheting and had a true love and appreciation for horses.
She was a member of the Mannsville Methodist Church. She is survived by her two sons and daughter in laws Brian and Beverly McDaniel of Buffalo, NY, Elmer and Stacey Parish of Henderson, NY, her two daughters and son in laws Mrs. Daniel (Marion) Burnham of Adams Center, and Mrs. Jay (Annette) Morrell of Adams Center, her sister Sally Newton of Mannsville, NY and her 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A great grandson O’Ryan Perkins and a sister Shirley Sawyer died before her.

WATERTOWN, NY- Stanley R. Farmer, 53, of South Pleasant St., passed away Thursday March 9, 2017 at his home.

Jeremy Lipschutz
THERESA, NY-- Jeremy Lipschutz passed away suddenly on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at River Hospital. A resident of Theresa for 30 years, he is well-known throughout the community for his bright and ready smile.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 22, 1953, Jeremy was the only son of Sidney Lipschutz and Natalie Brodsky Lipschutz, formerly of Bala Cynwyd, PA. He attended schools in Lower Merion School District, Merion, PA, and attended college at Philadelphia Community College and Penn State University, State College, PA. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. He met his future bride, Susan (Sue) Gillett, in Philadelphia, PA, in 1980, and they moved to Theresa, NY, in 1986.
Jeremy sold cars at North Country dealerships for several years. A consummate salesman who put people at their ease, he was named top salesman at both Carriage House Motors and Fuccillo’s Auto Mall several times, and was Salesman of the Year at Fuccillo’s in 1995. He retired from Fuccillo’s in 2002.
Jeremy was a voracious reader, primarily history. He was a gentle soul who cared about the environment and politics. He was a member of the Thousand Islands Blue Grass Association. He also loved his cats and dogs very much. Jeremy truly enjoyed people, as well as playing with his pets, watching old movies, laughing to The Three Stooges, singing along with rock and folk music and making up rhymes. He will be remembered for being a fun-loving, happy person and devoted husband.
He is survived by his loving wife Susan (Sue) Gillett of Theresa, his mother-in-law, Jane T. Gillett of Thousand Island Park, NY, a brother-in-law, Dr. Edward (Annie) Gillett of St. Petersburg, FL, two sisters-in-law, Amy (John) Stenard of St. Petersburg, FL, and Dr. Anne Gillett of St. Paul, MN, several nieces and nephews and two cousins. His parents and his sister, Sally pre-deceased him.
The funeral will be 10 am Monday at Frederick Brothers Funeral Home in Theresa, NY with Pastor Donald Briant officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Antwerp, NY.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Covell Rhoades of Turin, NY; his father, John Rhoades of Turin, NY; his sister, Christine Rhoades Spina and her husband, Eric, of Howland Center, OH; his maternal grandmother, Ann Covell of North Olmsted, OH. He is also survived by several loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Adam is predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Raymond Covell; paternal grandparents, Delbert “Pete” and Mary Rhoades; and maternal great grandparents, Gertrude and Joseph McDonnell.
Adam was born on September 20, 1996 in Toledo, OH, a son of John and Mary A. Covell Rhoades. He attended South Lewis Central School. While in school, Adam was active with 4 – H, and played on the boys’ basketball and soccer teams. He had a passion for basketball, dirt bikes, especially Honda, and fixing just about anything that had a motor in it. Adam loved spending time with his cousins, fishing and riding snowmobile in the winter. He enjoyed doing farm work on his father’s farm, operating machinery, and working with the cows. He was looking forward to an apprenticeship in the electrical trade.

Rick J. Crawford
Rick Jackson Crawford, 133 Pratt Street, passed away Thursday, March 9th. at Samaritan Medical Center where he had been a patient briefly. Born in Watertown December 15, 1955, son to John J. and Dedra Crawford, he was 61 years old.
Growing up locally, Rick was educated in the Adams School District. He worked for several years as a laborer at Watertown’s Jefferson Rehabilitation Center. Rick was a collector of several things, and will be remembered for being personable and socially active.
There are no services scheduled at this time. Burial will be held at the convenience of his family in Woodside Cemetery.

John W. Kinne
John Wesley “Jack” Kinne passed away Tuesday February 21,2017 in Quitman, Texas at the age of 82.
He was born January 24,1935 in Watertown, NY to the late Elmer and Mary Jane Kinne.
Jack was a member of the US Army Reserves, US Coast Guard Auxiliary and served as Captain of the Maulius NY Volunteer Fire Dept.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping on the Canadian border during the summer. He also had a great love for the ocean during his time spent in Connecticut and Florida.
Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia A Greene Kinne: daughters Michele Stonoha (Mike) of Shelton CT: Vickie Fagg (Gordon) of Quitman TX. grandaughters :Jennifer Stonona and Samantha Pratz, great grandchildren: Dahlia and Zachary.
He is aslo survived by brother William Kinne of Brownville NY and sister Alice LaParr of Harrisville NY, also many nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life will be held at Lake Lydia in Quitman, TX.

BOONVILLE — Evelyn (Post) Johnson, 81, of Ford St., widow of Elmer N. and a former resident of Rt. 12, Port Leyden, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. For many years Elmer and Evelyn operated Bills Grocery Market in Port Leyden.

GOUVERNEUR — Louise S. Miles, 70, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.

Louise was born in New York City on July 10, 1946.
She graduated from high school and received licensed practical nurse certification.
Louise worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Watertown and provided home healthcare aide to the elderly in the Gouverneur area.
Louise married William D. “Bill” Miles on July 8, 1967 at St. Joseph’s Church in Malone. Mr. Miles, a retired employee of Viking in Harrisville, passed away on September 9, 2011.
She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, was a member of the St. James Church and had served as a eucharistic minister in the past.
Louise is survived by her son Christopher Miles of Roanoke, VA, her daughter Michelle Sanger of Gouverneur, her granddaughter Sarah Sanger, and a sister Alice Barcombe of Indiana. She is predeceased by her husband Bill and her adoptive parents Fred and Betty Salzer.

Lisa was born on Sept 22, 1974 in Ogdensburg NY, the daughter of Brett & Bonnie (Howard) Rand. She graduated from Morristown High School and continued her education at St. Lawrence Lewis Boces where she obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree. She was employed by the United Helpers Organization for 21 years as an LPN. Lisa later married Shawn Durham on October 3, 2015.
She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Ogdensburg where she also held the secretary position, and enjoyed crafts, spending time with family, and her involvement with her church.
