Memorial Services for Renee L. Robinson, age 54, of Lisbon, will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017, at 1:00PM at the Lisbon Central School Auditorium with Rev. Renee is survived by her parents, Roger and Mary Lou Bixby Robinson; her sister, Traci Lajoie and her husband, Bernie, of York, NY; her brother, Ryan Robinson and his wife, Shannon, of Waddington, NY; five nephews and one niece; Devin, Jacquelyn, Collin, Tyler, Jake and Matthew and many aunts and uncles.
Renee was born on March 29, 1962, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of Roger and Mary Lou Bixby Robinson. She graduated from Lisbon Central School in 1980. Renee went to work at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center where she worked in Medical Records for thirty one years.
Renee started her coaching career with Lisbon Town Rec (1980-1985). She later moved on to coach a total of 22 years of Girls Modified Basketball and 22 years of Girls Modified Softball at Lisbon Central School. In 2011, she became the Girls Varsity Softball Coach. Renee also coached Girls Modified Basketball at Canton Central School and Girls Varsity Basketball at Hermon-DeKalb Central School. While in high school, Renee was awarded co-most valuable player in Section 10 Basketball. She also officiated basketball and played in the Women’s Softball League.
Renee enjoyed kayaking, watching ships on the St. Lawrence River, Clarkson Hockey, and was a Bobby Orr Fan of the Boston Bruins. Renee also enjoyed following her niece in sporting events.

James C. Brett
James C. Brett, 85, Ward St., Watertown passed away January 25, 2017 at his home.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 1, at 11AM at Holy Family Church, Watertown with Rev. Steven Murray, pastor, presiding. Burial will be at 10AM prior to the mass in Glenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.
Jim was born in Watertown on July 28, 1931, son of Clarence R. and Justina Leone Cleland Brett. He was a 1949 graduate of Watertown High School and received his bachelor’s degree in 1953 from Notre Dame University and also played in the college band. After college he entered the US Army, serving from 1953 - 1955. While in the Army, Jim served a year in Germany. A contributor to college and military publications while in college and the army, he was also assigned to duty for six months in an army public information office while in Germany.
At age sixteen, he became formally associated with the Watertown Daily Times when he was high school correspondent for the Times. While in college he worked summers as a copy boy and a reporter. He returned to the Times, after the Army, on August 15, 1955 as a reporter and staff writer, serving as the Canton correspondent from September 1955 to December 1956. He returned to Watertown and served fourteen years as police reporter and feature writer. In 1968 Jim authored a three part series on Frederick Exley and in 1970 he was chairman of the Times Editorial Association.
In 1971 he began his career with Oswego State University College in the English Department, where he was an associate professor and retired in 1996 as a Journalism professor. While at Oswego, he was an organizer and director of the student internship program at the New York Times in 1972 and in 1985, was a member of the organizing committee of State University of New York Colleges in the North Country on Ft. Drum. He was a member of both NYS Retired Teachers and Oswego Emeriti Associations.
Jim was a Master Gardener for Cornell Cooperative Extension, and was a member of both the Royal Horticultural and American Horticultural Societies and Master Gardeners American. He was also a member of Jefferson County Historical Society, Nature Conservancy, American Legion Post 61, Ives Hill Country Club and Black River Valley Club. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling and after his retirement he visited Ireland, Rome, California, and Hawaii.
He is survived by his cousin, Clare Carroll, of Watertown, and her family, his goddaughter, Theresa Heldt, of Burbank, CA, and her family, and his many friends. His father died in 1970, his mother died in 1983, and he was also predeceased by his cousin, Velma Ginn, who died in 2002.

Norman L. Barkley Sr.
Carthage-- Norman L. Barkley Sr., 71, of 558 S. Mechanic St., died Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Ellis Farm, Hospice of Jefferson County in Watertown.
Norman was born on February 15, 1946 in Carthage, the son of the late Kenneth and Doris (Bebee) Barkley. He married the former Molly J. Durant on July 2, 1966 in Carthage. He was employed at AMF in Lowville before joining the St. Regis Paper Company in Deferiet. There, he worked in the groundwood department for several years, retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed woodworking and lawn work and was constantly helping others.
He is survived by his wife: Molly J. Barkley of Carthage, one daughter and her husband: Mrs. Jeffrey (Naura) Christman of Carthage, two sons and their wives: Norman L. (Annie) Barkley Jr. of Carthage and Nicholas (Catherine) Barkley of Amesbury, MA,; 5 Grandchildren, Alesa Bernat, Ricky Lehnhardt, Ava Barkley, Lily Barkley and Olive Barkley, 2 Great Grandchildren, Sydney and Thomas Bernat, two sisters: Sharon Culbertson of Antwerp and Judy Hickman of North Carolina, two brothers: Wayne Barkley of Watertown and Terry Barkley of Carthage and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Katherine Barkley is predeceased.

Jean Mary Burns
CHASE LAKE - Jean Mary Burns, life-long resident of Lewis County, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 20, 2017.
She was born on February 11, 1924, in her grandparent’s home in Lowville, the daughter of the late Noel Burns and Katharine (Bowman Burns) Dewey. Jean graduated from Lowville Academy in 1941 and from Potsdam Teacher’s College in 1945. She taught elementary school in Oceanside, Brookfield, and Lowville, retiring in 1977 from the South Lewis School District.
In her 93 years of life, Jean always was active in supporting the causes near to her heart, including preventing domestic violence, being instrumental in establishing a telephone hot line for people needing services in Lewis County. She always wanted to understand scientific subjects, from medicine to astronomy, and was an avid reader her whole life devouring many hundreds of books and magazines, from Harry Potter to the Merck Manual and Scientific American. She loved to create knitted and crocheted items for her family, especially beautiful blankets. Jean was well known for entertaining people with her vast repertoire of songs on the piano, especially songs from the 1940’s and 50’s. She was an excellent cook and baker, producing a replica of the Trinity Episcopal Church for the church building’s 100th anniversary in 1967. Jean enjoyed being with her family and delighted in her grand and great grandchildren. She loved to share many generations of family stories and the genealogical history of the family.
Jean is survived by her daughters Katharine Noonkester of Concord, NH and Priscilla Phelps of Washington, DC; her sons Ross Phelps of Chase Lake and his fiancée Josie Toscano, Peter Phelps of Portland, OR, Frank Phelps and his wife Susan of Enoch, UT, William Phelps and his wife Susan of Alpharetta, GA, and Robert Phelps of Helotes, TX; her grandchildren Katharine Gonzalez and Sarah Noonkester of Concord, NH, Justin Phelps of Gulfport, FL , Jonathan Phelps of Tampa, FL, Mia Barron of Minden, NV, Karissa Blackburn, Chloe Jean and Annika Phelps of Alpharetta, GA, Graham and Molly Phelps of Durham, NH, Matthew Phelps of Troy, and Robert and Juliana Phelps of Helotes, TX; her five great grandchildren; her sister Carol Dezik of Ocala, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her “sister-cousin” Priscilla Audo of Chaumont; and her former husband Gerald Phelps, of Loudon, TN.
She was predeceased by her sisters Helen Dewey Burdick and Susan Dewey Beck, and her brother Richard Burns, as well as her long time companion and friend Robert Evans.

Dorothy I. Konkoski
MASSENA – Mrs. Dorothy I. Konkoski, 97, of Grassmere Terrace, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, March 19, 2017 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
Dorothy was born January 21, 1920 in Cornwall, Ontario, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Irene (LaVigne) Hartle and attended schools in Potsdam. On August 6, 1938, she married Charles J. Konkoski at St. Mary’s Church in Massena. He predeceased her on June 22, 1996.
Dorothy worked for a time at Carey’s Jewelers in Potsdam before going to Warner Brothers Corset Factory in Massena. She later worked for Wylie’s Supermarket in Massena, before starting the bookkeeper and clerk at Peets Jewelers in Massena, where she remained for many years until her retirement. Dorothy and her late husband also owned and operated Red Barrell Antiques for many years. Dorothy was very active in TOPS for many years serving as their secretary. She was an avid quilter and supported her grandchildren in their sporting events throughout the years. Dorothy held the greatest love and dedication for her precious grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Bonnie Konkoski of Norwood; her 4 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; her brothers, Gordon Hartle of Potsdam and Gervais Hartle of Connecticut; her sister-in-law, Carol Hartle of Massena; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by a son, Charles John “Jack” Konkoski in 1954 at the age 13; her brother, Frederick G. “Ted” Hartle; and three sisters, Barbara McCallum and Theresa Berger and Fern Androkitis.
There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.

Donald D. Wadleigh
Massena: Donald D. Wadleigh, 69, of Highland Road, formerly of Raymondville, peacefully passed away early Wednesday Morning (March 22, 2017) under the care of hospice surrounded by his loving family. There will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Raymondville Cemetery with full military honors.
Donald was born May 24, 1947 in Potsdam, NY, the son of the late Loren and Dorothy (Furnace) Wadleigh. He attended Norwood-Norfolk Central School and upon graduation joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after three years. At one time Donald worked at the Wassaic Developmental Center as a Mental Therapy Aide for many years. He cherished the time he spent with his family and was a collector of anything that had to do with Elvis. In his younger years, he enjoyed going out dancing.
Donald is survived by his three sisters, Dawn Delight and husband Howard Paro of Norfolk, Jeanette and husband Barry Beggs of Norfolk, and Frieda Dissottle of Massena; a brother, Robert and wife Gina Wadeligh of Washington State; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Don is predeceased by a niece, Robyn Reynolds; a nephew, Robert “Bubba” McGregor II; a great nephew, John Butler; a great niece Kayla Dissottle; 2 great-great nephews, Brayden and Bobby Murray.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Robyn McGregor for the care she gave to Donald at her home for the past couple of years.

Richard C. Frederick
Richard C. Frederick, 84 passed away at the Samaritan Medical Center, Saturday, March 18th where he had been a patient since March 13th.
Calling hours will be held at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, 632 State St., Watertown on Friday, March 24th from 6-8 pm. There will be no scheduled memorial service at this time.
Born in Watertown January 13, 1933 he was a son to Gordon and Marion Frederick. Richard married Esther I. Fulkerson on May 15, 1955. They operated the family farm on Sulpher Springs Road, Watertown for 40 years where they milked 400 Holstein dairy cows. In 1994 he sold the family farm and moved to Fuller Road, Adams Center. Following his retirement Richard did custom crop work and worked for Robbins Farms also cropping. He also plowed snow for Frederick Construction at the Salmon Run Mall for the next 23 years.
Surviving besides his wife, Esther are 2 sons, David and Sally, Adams Center; Donald and Kristine, Adams Center; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one sister and brother in law Joan and Edward Smith, Watertown; brother in law, Richard and Clara Fulkerson, cousin Howard Frederick and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Deborah (LaMark) Frederick, his brother, Gordon Frederick Jr., sister and brother in law, Shirley and Ralph Carrier, grandson, Larry Plummer, nephews Ricky Fulkerson and James Carrier.
A spring burial will be held at a later date and time to be announced.

Ken Tabolt
Ken Tabolt died on Tuesday, March 21st at Community Hospital in Syracuse, where he had been in intensive care since March 7th.
He is survived by four loving children and their spouses: Jessica and Ian Halm of Campton, NH, Melanie and Jeff Pate of Harrisburg, NY, Amanda and Mark Kenyon of East Meredith, NY, and Gregory and Casey Tabolt of Martinsburg, NY. He also had six grandchildren: Avery and Jenna Pate, Sabine and Vincent Halm, and Tucker and Eleanor Tabolt, as well as six siblings: Ethel Richards, Barbara Calderala, Clifford Tabolt, Floyd Tabolt, Donna Petzoldt, and Marion Raineri, many siblings-in-law, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Ken attended the “Little Schoolhouse” on the Benton Road in New Bremen, St. Peter’s Catholic School and Lowville Academy, where he graduated in 1969. He worked on his family’s dairy farm and several other area farms until enlisting in the US Navy where he was trained as a machinist and assigned to work on the Ulysses S. Grant submarine until 1973. While on leave, he returned to Lewis County and worked on the Marks Farm, where he met his wife, Sandra Rhone. They were married on November 29th, 1975. Ken worked various farm jobs and at AMF, as well as attending BOCES day school on the GI Bill. Ken and Sandy raised pigs before starting their own dairy on the Snell Rd. in New Bremen. Sandy passed of cancer in 1986, leaving Ken to raise their four children, with the support of his family. The well-being of his children remained the focus of the rest of his life.
Ken stepped away from the physical demands of farming in 1997, and worked various jobs as a logger, truck driver, and snowplow operator at the Fort Drum Airfield. He was an avid wildlife and farm crops observer. He also enjoyed maple sugaring, country music, Nascar, and most of all joking around with his family and friends.

Theresa Amiable
LOWVILLE - Theresa Amiable, 73, of Stowe Street died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at her home under the loving care of her care givers and Lewis County Hospice.
Theresa was born on August 4, 1943 in Kings County, NY, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Reed) Amiable. She attended Four Seasons Day Program in Turin. Theresa found great pleasure in visiting animals at Fort Rickey Discovery Zoo, Old McDonald’s Farm and the Watertown and Syracuse Zoos. Her joy was singing with her friends and listening to music, spending time outdoors and rides through the countryside.
She is survived by her sister, Marie Ramos Sagal of Jamaica, Queens, NY; and special friends, Joan, Joe, Mark, and Laura as well as her numerous care givers. She is predeceased by her four siblings.
A memorial service will be on Wednesday, March 29th at 12:00 Noon at the Sundquist Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. Ronald Pominville, Deacon officiating. Spring burial will be in Beaches Bridge Cemetery.

NATURAL BRIDGE – Ruth M. Becker Babiarz Tallman, 80, 43239 NYS Route 3, died Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Hospice House of Jefferson County, Gotham St., Watertown.
Born on November 1, 1936 in Sherwood, NY, the daughter of the late Gavin & Stella Becker; she graduated from Sherwood Central School in 1954. She worked for 12 years for the Cayuga Farm Bureau and retired in 1993 from the Auburn Memorial Hospital after working for 15 years as a Unit Secretary. She served as a fire commissioner for Natural Bridge. She was a member of the NYS Timber Producers Association where she served as a board member, the Empire State Forest Products, a member and secretary of TOPS #674, Carthage, a ‘Red Hatter’, a volunteer at Country Manor Nursing Home, an election worker, a former member of the Throopsville Community Church and an active member of the Natural Bridge United Methodist Church. She enjoyed puzzles, flowers and gardening.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Charles E. Tallman, her grandson Cody A. Babiarz, 4 step children; Maria, Rejane, George Tallman and Charlena (Donald) Myers, 2 sisters in laws; Barbara (Robert) Welch and the Rev. Louise Tallman, both of Florida. Also surviving are several step grandchildren, cousins and friends.
A memorial service at the Natural Bridge United Methodist Church will be scheduled at a later date. Margaret was born on July 21, 1927 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late William Eugene & Emma Pearl (Miller) Rheaume. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and married Byron Scott on June 27, 1947. After Byron’s untimely death, she later was married to L. Morley Noble which ended in divorce. She again found happiness with Maynard Moore from Ogdensburg, and has enjoyed each other’s companionship for the past 20 years.
Margaret was a homemaker while raising her young family, and later became certified as a nurse’s aide. She worked at the A. Barton Hepburn Hospital from 1974 until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed gardening, going to the casino, canning, baking, cooking, dancing, hunting, fishing, camping, watching the NY Yankees and spending time with her children, grandchildren and caring for others.

Calling hours will precede the service on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Brownville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Born on April 1, 1927 in the Town of Pamelia, daughter of Floyd and Laura (Brown) Gardner, she graduated from WHS in 1944.
She married Harry Schweitzer on June 24, 1945 at the Stone Street Presbyterian Church. The couple resided in Dexter where they owned and operated a dairy farm up until the late 80’s. During that time Wilma owned and operated a beauty shop out of her home up until she retired in 1991.
She was a former member of the Dexter Legion Auxiliary and Watertown VFW Auxiliary and she enjoyed gardening.
Among her survivors are a daughter and son in law, Sharon E. and Dalon P. Crump, Dexter; four sons and two daughters in law, Ronald F. and Judy Schweitzer, Bushnell, FL, Reginald J. and Diane Schweitzer, Chaumont, Wayne R. Schweitzer, Dexter, Steven S. Schweitzer, Dexter; a sister, Thelma Rogers, Watertown; 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by a son, Craig A. Schweitzer; a sister, Belva Golja and five brothers, Robert, Howard, Vernon, Donald and Ernest Gardner.

Jean H. Smith
Jean H. Smith 80 of Adams Center, wife of John C. Smith Sr., and daughter of the late Ralph and Cornelia (Peebles) Martin went to be with the lord on March 23, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born on January 8, 1937.
Along with her husband of 65 years, Jean raised 9 children and she enjoyed knitting, dancing, church, and planning special events, especially family events. Over the years, Jean had volunteered at Mercy Hospital, worked at South Jefferson Central School in the cafeteria and had been the church historian and librarian at Adams Center Baptist Church. She also spent a lot of time working on fundraisers for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. For several years, Jean provided care for young children in her home who became like family.
Besides her husband, she is survived by the following children, Thomas (Sandy) Smith of Adams Center, Pam Dufresne of Adams Center, Bonnie (Kevin) Slater of Rochester Mills, PA, Michele (Scott) Fedoro of Adams, James (Bonnie) Smith Sr. of Goldsboro, NC, John (Marianne) Smith Jr. of Mechanicsville, NY, Peter (Cathy) Smith of Adams, and these grandchildren, Tom Jr. and Steven, Angela and Heidi, Karen, Kelly, Kandi and Brandon, Constance and Silas, James Jr., Hilary and Maria. Also, she is survived by 23 great grandchildren, brother in law Frederick Langworthy of Belleville, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Jean was pre-deceased by daughters Julie Anne Smith and Amy Joy Smith-Eastman, sister Janet Martin, mother and father in law James and Gertrude Smith, and sister in law Lois Langworthy.
Calling hours will be Tuesday March 28th at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home in Belleville, NY from 3pm-5pm. Pastor Al Dowker of the Honeyville Baptist Church will be officiating the funeral service at 5pm.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Jefferson County and caregivers Amy, Becca, and Heather. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Hospice of Jefferson County.
