Irene F. Carter

Irene Francis Carter: The marks of a well-worn life are in the people we touch, the things we create, and the obstacles we overcome. After many miles traveled, memories made, and a lifetime as vivacious as it was creative, Irene Carter came to her final rest, after a long battle with cancer, on July 22. She was surrounded by family. Irene told the story of her life in the people and projects she loved. She told it with a sly smile when she knew she had the winning word in a game of Scrabble. She told it in the antiques she sold in her small-town shop and the conversations she had with patrons at the restaurant she shared with her husband. She enjoyed working with her hands: in the earth, on canvas, in needles and threads. Her story lives on in her surviving family: husband Robert W. Carter, son Matthew and his wife Rita; eldest daughter Angeleine and her husband Dustin; youngest daughter Christin, and her husband Chris; her three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is remembered as well by her siblings: Barbara Tillinghast, Claire Russell, Rhea Ritchings, and Caroline LaRose. Irene’s life and passions took her across the country, from Madrid, NY to New Jersey, to Washington D.C. and northern Virginia, to Boca Raton, FL, and to her final home in Helena, NY (a stone’s throw from her birthplace of Malone). In each place she made herself a fixture of the community. She goes now to join her parents, father Edward Henry LaRose and mother Irene Anne (Southwick) LaRose, as well as her siblings Edward LaRose, and Lee LaRose. Her quick wit, generous hospitality, and strength of character will not be forgotten. There will be no services at this time. Arrangements are entrusted to Allen-Denesha Funeral Home. Online condolences can be made at www.allendeneshafuneralhome.com.

William S. Coleman of Bradenton, Florida passed away peacefully on the 13th of July with his wife, children, and grandchildren present. He clearly communicated his love for his family prior to his passing. Born in Watertown, New York on January 8th, 1930, he was the second child of three born to James V. Coleman and Mary Marzano. At age four, their family was jolted by the sudden death of his father James, due to a construction accident. This left their family without a father in the middle of the great depression that gripped the entire nation. Panic stricken, help arrived in abundance from the Coleman family, Marzano family, and the Canale, Morgia, Doldo, and Capone families. This rally of support was instrumental in making Bill who he was later in life.

Influenced at an early age, Bill spent countless hours with his grandfather, Daniel Coleman, Superintendent of Public Works for Watertown. He always considered his grandfather his hero and mentor, teaching Bill through example how to relate to people in a respectful and dignified way. As he found himself in many positions of leadership throughout his life, he would always consider himself a servant of the people and his commitment to family would always be his number one priority.

His marriage to Hilda Miller Morgan was a blessing to Bill. Together they’ve shared the joys of family and laughter. They especially cherished time spent with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their 10 children are James V. Coleman, Louis R. Morgan III (deceased), William S. Coleman Jr., Michael G. Morgan, Mary L. Dugas, Frank M. Coleman, Judy L. Coyne, Mark A. Morgan, Russell D. Coleman, and Sandra L. Coleman. Bill was predeceased by his father, James, his mother Mary, sister Betty, and his brother Vince. Memorial service and interment will be held on Friday, August 4th at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Cemetery, Watertown, followed by a reception at Coleman’s Corners. Friends and family are welcome.
