Beverly R. Etsy

Beverly Ruth Esty, 86, departed from life on November 17, 2017, in the comforts of her home, surrounded by her loving family. Beverly was the wife of the late Glenn Sherman Esty, and the daughter of Kenneth M. and Doris (Towle) Otis. She was the loved mother of the late Barbara Ruth Johnson of Houston, TX and Sandra June Esty of Alexandria, VA. She was the loving grandmother of April Cardwell, Amanda Taylor and Ashley Zimmer, cherished great-grandmother of Erik and Tyler Fay, Samantha Cardwell, Madison Taylor and Mackenzie Blaisdell, the great-great grandmother of Mia L. Barnett, all of Houston, TX. Beverly was predeceased by her brother Kenneth M. Otis, Jr. and sister Marilyn Woodall, survived by her sisters Vera (Sis) (Otis) Gillette and Cindy (Otis) Durant of Upstate New York, along with several other extended family members from the area, where Beverly was born and raised.

Beverly will always be remembered for her love of family and animals, strength, courage and her love of life. She was quick witted, always there to lend a hand and loved her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her spirit will live on through those she left behind.

Beverly was born and raised in Elllisburg, NY, later moved to North Syracuse, NY, to raise her family. She worked as a school bus driver for the North Syracuse School District for 27 years. Upon retirement moved to Sacketts Harbor, NY, then in 2000 moved to Houston, Texas. Where she again worked for the Cy-Fair IAD as a special needs bus attendent until her passing.

There will be a graveside memorial in Ellisburg Rural Cemetery in Ellisburg, New York, date to be determined.

Doris M. LaJuett, 88, passed November 22, 2017 at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she had been a resident.

The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 25 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the North Watertown Cemetery.

Calling hours will precede the funeral on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born on August 27, 1929, in Watertown, daughter of Charles and Florence Hyde Otis, she attended Watertown schools.

She married Harold LaJuett of Watertown on January 7, 1947.

Mrs. LaJuett was a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a crossing guard for many years. After she brought up her children she went to work at Northland Electrics and the Salvation Army.

Her husband, Harold, retired from NY Central Railroad, he passed on August 6, 1988.

Surviving are three sons and their wives, Dennis and Judy LaJuett, Calcium, Harold LaJuett, Jr. and his companion Melissa Brown, Watertown, Dale and Kathy LaJuett, LaFargeville; four daughters and their husbands, Linda and Robert Flake, Calcium, Renee and Larry Pringle, Watertown, Lori and Leonard Coburn, Adams, Tammy and Timothy Queior, Dexter; 24 grandchildren, 36 several grand, great grand and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Albert and Leonard Otis and two sisters, Frances and Margy Otis all passed before her.

PHILADELPHIA – Harold W. VanAernam, 69, of Stonewood Drive, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg.

Harold was born on February 29, 1948 in Boonville, New York to Aubrey VanAernam & Ethel Frium. He was raised by Hubert and Helen Brown in Copenhagen and attended Copenhagen Central School. On March 15, 1975 he married Susan J. Hosmer. Harold was employed by Borden’s Milk Plant from 1966 until their closing in 1989. He then worked for Crowley’s in Lafargeville until becoming disabled.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; a daughter, Heather Hays of Corpus Christi, Texas; three grandchildren; four brothers, Charles Brown of Florida; Pete Baker of Harrisville; David VanAernam of South Carolina; Robert VanAernam of Carthage; five sisters, Eloise Davey of Lowville; Ramona Kirk of Boonville; Juanita Alger of Tennessee; Eva and Marie. He is predeceased by two brothers, Lowell Brown and Kenneth VanAernam.

A private family memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. A gathering will be held at Champion Apartments in the community room on December 2, 2017 at 1:00pm. Burial will take place in the ChildsFalls Sunrise Cemetery. Donations in Harold’s Memory may be made to Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired of Northern New York, 131 Washington Street, Watertown, NY 13601.

Dorothy P. Earle

Dorothy P. Earle, 87, of Hannawa Falls, NY passed away peacefully on November 23, 2017 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital with family by her side.

Born on July 27, 1930 in Malone, NY to Avery and Mildred (Dora) Perham, Dorothy graduated from Franklin Academy High School. After high school, she attended the Childs Hospital Practical Nursing School in Albany, graduating in 1951, and working in Albany as a nurse until her marriage in 1953.

She married Paul E. Earle on May 8, 1953 in Malone. Initially, the couple settled in Burke, NY before moving to Hannawa Falls, in July 1957. The couple was happily married for 64 years and in a fateful way, they passed only seven days apart from each other. Although sad for their family, they wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. They were a team and belonged together, forever and always.

She is survived by five children: Donna Earle Seymour (Glenn), Potsdam, NY, Susan Earle Dragan (Bob), Albuquerque, NM, Paul F. (Skip) Earle (Carole), Key West, FL, James A. Earle (Charlene), Salt Lake City, UT, and Robert F. Earle (Angela), Syracuse, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Joyce Denny of Potsdam. She is also survived by her “adopted” son, Mike Goliber of Hannawa Falls.

She was also predeceased by her siblings, Eleanor Howard, Norma Cromp, Fred Perham, and a grandson, Joseph P. Earle.

Dorothy Earle was the epitome of grace and harmony. She worked tirelessly to maintain a happy, welcoming home for her family and friends. Listening to understand was one of her greatest strengths. Leaning forward, smiling, and nodding her head, she would wait for you to finish and then ask questions, seeking to understand more. Whether it was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a friend or acquaintance, Dorothy was invested in the relationship. She was everybody’s friend.

Dorothy was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hannawa Falls Volunteer Fire Department, volunteering her time in support of each fund-raising activity. She was known as the Pie Lady of Hannawa for many years, baking countless pies for community church bake sales and the annual fireman’s field day dinner.

Arrangements are with the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam, NY. After a private burial, the family will hold a celebration of life at their convenience at a later date.

Carthage- Terry L. Rigabar, 55, of 902 A, Emjay Way, died suddenly Thursday, November 23, 2017 at his residence.

Terry was born December 3, 1961 in Newport, RI., the son of the late Warner L. and Anna M. (Buckingham) Rigabar. He was a 1980 graduate of Carthage Central High School. He attended St. Lawrence University in Canton on a football scholarship and graduated in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He served in the Army from 1984 until 1988 receiving the rank of Lieutenant.

Terry’s career started as the procurement manager for the James River Corp. in Carthage, then purchasing manager for Smart Papers in Hamilton, Ohio for 4 years. He returned to Carthage and was operations manager for Metro Paper, then was a contract management specialist for the Finger Lakes DDSO, purchasing manager for Newton Falls Paper Company, purchasing agent and contract specialist for the USAF Research Lab in Rome, NY and currently was a contract specialist for the Mission & Installation Contracting Command at Fort Drum where he has worked since 2011.

Terry was an avid golfer and member of the Cedar’s Golf course.

He is survived by his mother Anna M. Rigabar of West Carthage; a sister: Cheryl A. Fritz of Cincinnati, OH and a brother: Timothy L. Rigabar of Columbus, OH, his nephews Tyler and Brandon; a niece, Megan and a great niece, Lilly Bug and several Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, November 28 at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Donald A. Robinson, Pastor officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Monday, November 27 from 4-7pm at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.

A funeral service for 94 year old Mrs. Irene Gilson Forbes of Massena, and formerly of Potsdam will be held on Wednesday, November 29th at noon at the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam, NY with Rev. Stephen Rocker celebrant. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, the 28th from 4-7 pm at the Garner Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam. Contributions in her memory can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. Mrs. Forbes passed away on November 23rd at the Massena Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are three daughters and their husbands. David and Gloria Grevenhurst of Ontario, Canada; Lee and Mary Thievierge of Canton, NY and Douglas and Margaret Watt of Canton, GA; daughter in law Susan Gilson; step children Allan Forbes of Whiteboro, NY; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Douglas Gilson, her brother Donald Russell, her first husband Floyd Gilson and second husband Lawrence Forbes and a step daughter Shirley Premo

She was born April 29, 1923 a daughter of Earl and Vera Russell. She attended Potsdam schools and graduated from Potsdam Central High School in 1940. She married Floyd E. Gilson of Potsdam on August 20, 1943. He was chief of police in Potsdam until 1960 when he retired due to his health. He died January 4, 1962. On December 1, 1967 she married Lawrence Forbes of Potsdam. He was a supervisor at Nekoosa Edwards Paper Mill for many years. He passed away in 1986.

Irene retired from New York Telephone Company from the Syracuse, NY office with over 20 years of service. She worked in the traffic department and retired from the accounting department. She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. After her retirement she enjoyed traveling and crocheting hats for the newborn babies at local hospitals, reading and enjoying her family and friends.

Annette E. Wilson, 79, of 31178 Sandy Hollow Road, Philadelphia, NY, passed November 24, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will take place at a later date in the N. Watertown Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bruce Funeral Home.

Born on November 4, 1938 at Madison Barrack’s, Sackets Harbor, to father William C. Hogan and mother Bertha T. Sepko Hogan Carpenter. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1956.

She married William R. Wilson Sr. on June 21, 1958 at Sacred Heart Church in Watertown. William passed on June 25, 2001. The couple resided in Black River, NY for most of their married life together, returning to Watertown in 1981.

Annette worked for P&C Foods for 35 years. She began her career at Weston’s Grocery Store on Arsenal Street before they became P&C. She worked at the Seaway Plaza and State Way Plaza locations as well as the Carthage store during her years with the company. She retired in January of 2001 from the Stateway Plaza location to care for her husband during his illness.

After Mr Wilson’s death she was the night manager at Davidson Motel. She resided in Kamargo Apartments in Black River for a few years before she moved to Philadelphia, NY to retire and reside with her daughter.

Annette was an avid walker on all of the established walking trails in the area and Thompson Park. She enjoyed dog walking for others and pet sitting during her years in Black River. She loved bowling, word search puzzles and her beloved pets.

She attended Mass regularly during her life; attending Scared Heart Church, St. Paul’s in Black River, St. Mary’s in Evans Mills and most recently St. Michael’s in Philadelphia.

She is survived by four children: two daughters Lisa A. Besaw, Philadelphia, NY with whom she resided and Kimberly A. LaCroix, Albany, NY, as well as two sons, William R. Wilson Jr. and his wife Linda, Watertown, NY and Kevin M. Wilson and his wife Sarah of NM. She is also survived by a brother Edward C. Carpenter and his wife Rose of Dexter, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband of 43 years, she was predeceased by a brother, William C. Hogan Jr. of Rochester, NY and her stepfather, Edward C. Carpenter.

Clayton, NY –Polly A. McLennan, 70, of Purcell Drive, passed away Thursday afternoon in the ER of River Hospital, in Alexandria Bay.

She was born March 9, 1947 in Alexandria Bay, daughter of Arthur A. and Frances Simpson Estes. She graduated from Alexandria Central High School in 1965. She worked for many years for the Admiral’s Inn, Alexandria Bay.

She married James F. Parker on September 13, 1974 in Alexandria Bay. Mr. Parker died on February 15, 2008. She later married Darrell McLennan on October 1, 2011, in Alexandria Bay.

Polly was a longtime member of the Alexandria Bay American Legion Auxiliary and an avid NY Yankees fan.

Besides her husband Darrell, she is survived by a son Joseph (Jennifer) Parker, Flowery Branch, GA, a daughter Cindy(Scott) Perkins, Smyrna, GA , her twin sister Paula(Duane)Money, Alexandria Bay, two brothers, Francis and John Estes, both of Pittsburgh, PA and two grandsons. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Michael Estes.

Calling hours will be from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, November 28th, at the Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. There will be no funeral services.

Marie E. Fisk, 90 of Dexter passed away Saturday afternoon at her home under the care of Hospice and her family by her side.

Marie was born November 21, 1927 in Watertown, the daughter of Leslie and Dorothy Huffstater Earl. She graduated from Watertown High School.

She married David L. Fisk on March 6, 1951 at St. Paul’s’ Episcopal Church in Watertown. The couple moved to Dexter in 1958.

Marie was an Account Clerk for NYSDPW , the worked at Sackets Harbor Central School and retired in 1986 from BOCES. She was a Past President and long-time Treasurer for American Legion Auxiliary in Dexter. Also was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She is survived by her husband David and five children: Karen Fisk of Watertown, Kathleen Robie of Chaumont, Keitha and Timothy Dupee of Brownville, William and Shelly Fisk of Watertown, David Fisk of Contoocook, NH. She has fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. A half-sister Josephine Johnson of Belleville also survives.

Funeral services will be Tuesday November 28th at 11:00 AM at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter with Rev. Ninon Hutchinson of St. Paul’s’ Episcopal Church of Brownville officiating. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday and hour prior to the funeral. BEAVER FALLS- Emily Beth Virkler, 41, of Beaver Falls passed away peacefully on November 26, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, November 29, from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm, at Iseneker Funeral Home, 5702 Waters Rd, Lowville, NY. A service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at Iseneker Funeral Home. Following the service, burial will be at the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Croghan.

Emily was born August 10, 1976 in Ann Arbor, MI, the daughter of Barbara and Paul Eshelman, and grew up in Ithaca, NY. She graduated from Ithaca High School in 1994 and from Cornell University in 1998. In the fall of that year she married Dr. Paul D. Virkler. Following their marriage Emily and Paul lived in Ragusa, Italy, where Paul consulted for a cheese production consortium and Emily taught English. Upon their return they moved to LeRoy, NY, where Emily worked for the Girl Scouts and then as an admissions counselor at Genesee Community College. During their time in LeRoy, Emily completed her Masters in Public Administration at SUNY Brockport. In 2005 the couple moved to Kansas City, MO, where Emily was a guidance counselor and instructor at the University of Missouri. In 2007, following the birth of their son Nathan, they moved to Trumansburg, NY, where Emily was an active volunteer at the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, the Jacksonville Community Church, and Trumansburg Elementary School. In 2017 the family moved to Beaver Falls, NY.

Emily is survived by her devoted husband Paul and loving son Nathan of Beaver Falls, NY; parents Paul and Barbara Eshelman of Ithaca, NY; brother Erik Eshelman (Karla) of Dryden, NY; grandmother Janet Palmer of Rock Falls, IL; father and mother-in-law Theodore Jr. and Mae Virkler of Croghan, NY; sister-in-law Renata Dawson (John) of Trumansburg, NY; brother-in-law Tim Virkler of Castorland, NY; brother-in-law Noel Virkler (Kendra) of Croghan, NY; nephews Zakary, Luke, Isaak, and Kamden Eshelman, John L. and Easton Dawson, and Isaiah Virkler as well as a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who always will remember her grace, kindness, infectious smile, and fun-loving manner. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Sara and Edwin Eshelman and maternal grandfather Harold Palmer.

John Kevin Lennox, 62, passed away on November 14, 2017 at his home in New Wilmington, PA after a lengthy illness. John was born to parents John and Marie Lennox in Watertown, NY on June 26, 1955 and graduated from Watertown High School. He is survived by his life partner, Vicki Clavelli; children John (Nicole) Lennox, Elizabeth Lennox, Angela Lennox, and Dennis Lennox; step-children Missy, Christina, and Matt Clavelli; grandchildren Joseph, Julia, Marc, Orlando, and Ellis; parents John and Marie Lennox; brother Ed Lennox; sister Linda (Doug) Almond; sister Debbie (Ed) Gerace; and brother-in-law Bob Pacific. He is preceded in death by his brother Paul Lennox and sister Sharon Lennox Pacific.

John is a veteran of the US Navy and served aboard the USS Belknap. After leaving the Navy, he spent the rest of his career working for the US Postal Service. John is remembered for his exceptional talent on the banjo, his passion for everything outdoors, his unique sense of humor, and his love for the Yankees. The couple was happily married for 64 years and in a fateful way, they passed only seven days apart from each other. Although sad for their family, they wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. They were a team and belonged together, forever and always.

She is survived by five children: Donna Earle Seymour (Glenn), Potsdam, NY, Susan Earle Dragan (Bob), Albuquerque, NM, Paul F. (Skip) Earle (Carole), Key West, FL, James A. Earle (Charlene), Salt Lake City, UT, and Robert F. Earle (Angela), Syracuse, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Joyce Denny of Potsdam. She is also survived by her “adopted” son, Mike Goliber of Hannawa Falls.

She was also predeceased by her siblings, Eleanor Howard, Norma Cromp, Fred Perham, and a grandson, Joseph P. Earle.

Dorothy Earle was the epitome of grace and harmony. She worked tirelessly to maintain a happy, welcoming home for her family and friends. Listening to understand was one of her greatest strengths. Leaning forward, smiling, and nodding her head, she would wait for you to finish and then ask questions, seeking to understand more. Whether it was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a friend or acquaintance, Dorothy was invested in the relationship. She was everybody’s friend.

Dorothy was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hannawa Falls Volunteer Fire Department, volunteering her time in support of each fund-raising activity. She was known as the Pie Lady of Hannawa for many years, baking countless pies for community church bake sales and the annual fireman’s field day dinner.

Arrangements are with the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam, NY. After a private burial, the family will hold a celebration of life at their convenience at a later date.

A funeral service for 94 year old Mrs. Irene Gilson Forbes of Massena, and formerly of Potsdam will be held on Wednesday, November 29th at noon at the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam, NY with Rev. Stephen Rocker celebrant. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, the 28th from 4-7 pm at the Garner Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam. Contributions in her memory can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley. Mrs. Forbes passed away on November 23rd at the Massena Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are three daughters and their husbands. David and Gloria Grevenhurst of Ontario, Canada; Lee and Mary Thievierge of Canton, NY and Douglas and Margaret Watt of Canton, GA; daughter in law Susan Gilson; step children Allan Forbes of Whiteboro, NY; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Douglas Gilson, her brother Donald Russell, her first husband Floyd Gilson and second husband Lawrence Forbes and a step daughter Shirley Premo

She was born April 29, 1923 a daughter of Earl and Vera Russell. She attended Potsdam schools and graduated from Potsdam Central High School in 1940. She married Floyd E. Gilson of Potsdam on August 20, 1943. He was chief of police in Potsdam until 1960 when he retired due to his health. He died January 4, 1962. On December 1, 1967 she married Lawrence Forbes of Potsdam. He was a supervisor at Nekoosa Edwards Paper Mill for many years. He passed away in 1986.

Irene retired from New York Telephone Company from the Syracuse, NY office with over 20 years of service. She worked in the traffic department and retired from the accounting department. She was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. After her retirement she enjoyed traveling and crocheting hats for the newborn babies at local hospitals, reading and enjoying her family and friends.

Patricia J. McWayne, 78, of Lincoln Street, passed away November 27, 2017 at the Samaritan Medical Center.

Pat was born the eleventh child of John and Ethel Hunt Carpenter on March 14, 1939, in Watertown. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1957 and married Frederick A. McWayne on March 23, 1957.

Pat opened her home as the “Mrs. Claus’ House” for nine years with the help of her daughter Shane Marie. She was Mrs. Claus in parades, at events and in schools. Pat had a great deal of love for her family and children.

Surviving besides her husband, are a son Shawn (Kathleen Hunt) McWayne, a daughter Shane Marie McWayne, two step grandchildren, Tracy Slate and Matthew Smith, four step great grandchildren, Jacob Nadelen, Lucas Slate, Madeline Smith and Andrew Smith, two great nephews, Adam Marks and Nathan Hunt, several nieces and nephews. She is pre deceased by her parents, five brothers, Russell, Dalon, Paul, Neil, Donald, five sisters, Doreen LaMartina, Ula Marks, Wava Derouin, Iona Carpenter, Oneita Derrigo, two nephews, Paul Marks and David Marks.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, November29, 2017, from 4pm until 7pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11 am at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Fred Garry officiating. Burial will be at the family’s convenience.
