Debra L. (Coburn) Neddo, age 63, passed away on Saturday morning, February 24, 2018 in The Villages, Florida, surrounded with the love of family and friends after courageous battles with cancer. She was born December 21, 1954 in Watertown, NY, and spent most of her youth living in Evans Mills, graduating in 1973 from Indian River Central School. After graduation Debra worked at the former Mercy Hospital in the Administration Department. Her intelligence and kindness called her to the field of nursing. Determined and dedicated, she worked days and attended night classes at SUNY Canton. She had a rewarding career for many years as an RN at House of the Good Samaritan hospital while living in Watertown and, after moving to The Villages in 2008, at The Villages Regional Hospital where she became a Certified Rehab RN.

Debra married Alfred Edward Neddo, III on November 28, 1992. Ed predeceased her in November 2016, with Debra nursing him through his hospice period. Her father, Leonard C. Coburn, Sr., also preceded her in death this past June 2017, just as she learned of her own reoccurrence of cancer. She wrote: “Let the journey begin (again), this is going to be one hell of a fight” as she bravely moved forward.

She is survived by a son: Joel Coburn, MSW, of Northhampton, MA, her mother: Donna Pooler (Bob), The Villages, FL, Step-mother: Winnie Coburn, Sackets Harbor, NY, sisters: Candice Alguire Hensler, Lynnwood, WA, Shelly Alguire Richard (Mark), Dublin, GA, and Katie Pooler, Clayton, NY, brothers: Larry Coburn (Erin), Watertown, NY, Michael Coburn (Lisa), Vero Beach, FL, Randal Coburn (Athena), Glenmont, NY, Leonard C. Coburn, Jr. (Lori), Adams, NY, Cary Coburn, Virginia Beach, VA, and Tracy Coburn (Ann), Adams, NY, stepsons: Anthony Neddo (Justina) and Rich Neddo (Stacy), both of Watertown, NY, several nieces, nephews, cousins, MANY dear friends in New York and Florida, and her current beloved animal children - her cat: Tasha and her Paso Fino: Rosa Maja de Vez.

A celebration of her life was held in The Villages by the nursing staff of The Villages Regional Hospital and a memorial honoring her will be placed in the hospital garden. The nurses and doctors she worked with each made a special visit to her in her final days and she appropriately held ‘Queen’ status as a patient there as she passed. Numerous colleagues and patients knew, and will remember, Debra for her warm smile, contagious laugh, and great compassion.

Debra enjoyed spending time with friends and family, dancing to live music, traveling, beach walks, shopping, loving on her cat(s) and adventuring with her beloved horse, Rosa. As an animal lover she didn’t mind being considered the ‘crazy cat lady’ on each occasion of a feral cat rescue (some of which she adopted into her home, naming one “Stormy”) and she was absolutely thrilled to have her own horse again living in Florida. Time spent at the Preiss farm with her Rosa, trail riding with friends, and giving attention to all the other horses were amongst her best moments. She was a giver and caretaker at heart, offering of herself to anyone in need. Debra maintained long-distance and life-long friendships. Love never dies.

Planning is underway for a memorial Celebration of Life for both Debra and Ed, to be held this summer in Watertown, NY, after a private family gathering for interment of the ashes.

Richard Louis Spaziani, 89 of Salem, OR, passed away peacefully on Feb. 28th 2018 in Salem. Richard (Dick) was born in Watertown, NY to George and Faye (Pezza) Spaziani on Sept. 7th 1928. After graduating high school in 1946 he enlisted in the Army Air Force and spend 6 years honorably serving our country.

He was first stationed in Wichita Falls, TX at the U.S. Air Force Training Base and became a Permanent Grade Staff Sargent. While there he became a Mechanic Supervisor working on the B-29s. Later, Dick was stationed at Kadena Air Force Base on Okinawa during the Korean War.

After an honorable discharge Dick went to NY University and graduated from the Stern School of Business with a Master’s degree. After graduation Dick worked at Gimbal Brothers department store in NY City where he developed an inventory system for one of their departments. He then worked as an Industrial Engineer for Republic Aviation on Long Island, NY. He and a crew were sent to Bitburg Germany to work on the F-105 fighter jets. While there, they successfully solved a critical issue the planes were having.

While at the Bitburg Air Force Base he met Jeanne duBuy, a Military Dependent School Teacher. After coming back to the “states” they married and Jeanne brought Dick back to her home town of Salem, OR. While in Salem their first son Richard (Rick) was born. Dick decided to continue his education, in education, at Oregon State University. After completing his education courses the family moved to Tillamook, OR, where Dick taught at the local high school. It was here their second son, Marc, was born.

In 1966 the Government of Guam invited Dick to set up a Vocational Education program at the University of Guam. He accepted and the family spent three years on Guam. Dick was then accepted into the Doctoral Program at Oregon State University. He graduated in the top 5%, received his Ed. D in Education, and joined Phi Kappa Phi as an honorary member.

In 1972 Dick was invited by the University of Alaska S.E., in Juneau Alaska., to develop a Vocational Education program for the University. After successfully creating the department Dick was asked to become the Deputy Director of Education Program Support for the state of Alaska. After a wonderful and successful career, Dick retired in 1987.

After retirement Dick and Jeanne volunteered at the Alaska State Museum before moving back to Salem, OR in 1991. It was here he spent most of his wonderful retirement where he could be close to family and friends.

Above all, Dick enjoyed being with his family and friends; followed closely by traveling! He also enjoyed planes, reading, cooking, playing cards and telling stories of his adventurous life. For all those who had the good fortune of knowing him, an evening involving the last three was a definite pleasure.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife Jeanne, of 55 years; son Rick, his wife Sonya and grandsons Garren and Chase; Son Marc, his significant other Katrina Matheny, granddaughters Kaylee (Matthew) Potter, Markie Spaziani and grandson Kegan Young; Daughter, by a previous marriage, Jeanne Spaziani (Laurie) Booth, living in England and grandchildren Lucas and Jessamine Booth; sister Doris Layfield of Brandenton, Fl.; as well numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

No funeral services are planned at this time. There will be a celebration of his life later this year for this “extraordinary man”, as one of Dick’s hospice care team put it, but the date has not yet been set. Assisiting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.

The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Serenity Hospice. In so many ways each member of Dick’s hospice team not only helped Dick in his final weeks, but the whole family as well.

Please make any donations in Dick’s honor to Serenity Hospice Hope Foundation, 11481 SE Hall Blvd. Suite 200. Tigard, OR 97223
