Dennis J. Risk

Dennis J. Risk, born October 2nd 1931 to Thelma and Glenwood Risk of Clayton, New York, went to be with Jesus August 31, 2018. He went peacefully in his sleep.

Mr. Risk served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954. On October 4,1952, he married his high school sweetheart Sally Switzer of Watertown, New York. Mr. Risk was employed by Key Bank of Northern New York and was an Executive Vice President when he retired in 1993. Dennis had a heart for leading people to the Lord and was actively involved with the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship. Mr. and Mrs. Risk retired to Sun City Florida in 1994. Dennis is survived by his wife, Sally and their three children Nancy Lafave, Glenn Risk, and Sharon Wiseman. Dennis was Grandpa to 6 grandchildren and Great-grandpa to 6 more. Interment will be at a future date to be determined by the family at Brookside Cemetery, Watertown, New York.

Mrs. Lambert passed away April 14th, 2016. She had donated her body to the Upstate Medical Anatomical Donation Program, Syracuse.

Burke, NY/Georgia, VT — In sure and certain hope of the resurrection, Carol Ann Morse Shipman departed this life Friday, September 14, 2018, at her home with her family by her side. Carol was born on April 22, 1932 on the family farm in West Jay, Vermont. She attended Richford Elementary School, Richford High School, and graduated with a teaching degree from Johnson State Teacher’s College. She taught at both St. Albans Bay and Georgia Elementary Schools, was a member of the Georgia Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary and the 4H, and was a highly accomplished livestock shower.

She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Herbert F. Shipman; her daughter, Ruth Ann Shipman; grandson, Ezra Sweeney and great granddaughter, Lia Shipman; her parents, Chauncey and Elnora Morse; her parents-in-law, Cecil and Ethelyn Shipman; her brothers, Chauncey and Charles Morse; her sister, Shirley Morse Chapin, sister-in-law, Marilyn Dow Morse; her brothers-in-law, Stanley Shipman, Reginald Thompson, and Alex Ciufo.

She is survived by her children, Martha Shipman, Mary and Wayne Sweeney, Philip and Emilie Shipman, Norman and Vicky Shipman, and Charles and Thy Shipman; her grandchildren, Carolann, Josiah, Charles, Abigail, and Everissa Sweeney; Luke Shipman, Jeremiah and Nicole Shipman; Tabor Shipman, Zebulun and Grace Shipman, Calah and Romeo Ramirez, Moriah, Micah, Samuel, Reuben and Rutherford Shipman; Hannah, MaryBeth, Sela and Soriya Shipman; her great grandchildren, William Shipman; Seth, Esther, Stella, Cecily, Placid, and Andrew Shipman; Ezekiel, Elisha, Naomi, Obadiah, Lydia, Rachel, Isaiah, Job, and Joshua Shipman.

Carol is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Morse Ciufo, sisters-in-law, Virginia Thompson, and Muriel Shipman, as well as her brother-in-law, Bruce Chapin, and many nieces and nephews.

She loved her Lord and family, gardening, animals, canning, dancing, arts and crafts, had a mischievous sense of humor and, unbeknownst to many, dabbled in linguistics - particularly word formation.

Carol is a member of Lisbon Reformed Presbyterian Church in Lisbon, New York and a past member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in St Albans, Vermont.

Visiting hours will be at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 350 South Main Street, St. Albans on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, from 2:00 to 4:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, September 19th, at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery in Waterville, Vermont.

The funeral service for Carol H. Goodfriend will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19th at Holy Family Church, with Father Steven Murray officiating. Following the service, a burial will be held in the Turin Cemetery, Turin, NY. Calling hours will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown, NY.

Carol passed away peacefully at her residence Friday, September 14th where she was surrounded by her family. She was 92 years old.

Born in Watertown, NY on March 25, 1926, daughter of Clarence E. and Lucille (Seaver) Hills, she was educated in the Watertown School District.

Carol married Clarence L. “Bob” Goodfriend on August 31, 1946, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Wells Youngs officiating. Mr. Goodfriend passed away January 14, 1997.

Carol worked in the Watertown City School District for nearly 20 years as a lunchroom monitor at Knickerbocker Elementary School and as a crossing guard on the corner of Gotham Street and Knickerbocker Avenue. Prior to her employment with the School District, she provided childcare out of her residence.

Carol was an avid reader and animal lover. She enjoyed word search puzzles, and all things Scottish. She was also fond of a man in a uniform.

Carol’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all.

She is survived by her children, Peter and Donna Goodfriend of Clinton, NY, Polly and Mason Swan of Brownville, NY, Karen and Brent LeClaire of Watertown, NY, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, her cat, Moses, and her beloved dog, Duffy.

Besides her husband, Clarence, Carol is predeceased by her siblings, Campbell, Douglas, Bruce, and her best friend, Patricia “Pat” Clark.

Betty Jean (Hand) Harmon

Mrs. Betty Jean (Hand) Harmon, born in Ogdensburg, NY on March 26, 1941, passed away suddenly at her home at age 77 in August, 2018 in Reno, Nevada.

Betty grew up in Dekalb Junction, NY and graduated high school from Hermon-Dekalb Central School in 1962. In 1981, Betty moved to Reno. She worked for many years in child care, caregiving, and food service.

Betty was one of four children born to the late Gerald and Dorothy Hand. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Cirsil Bud Harmon. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Hand and Hubert Hand; and nephews, Michael Hand and Robert Hand. Betty is survived by her brother, Donald Hand, of Philadelphia, NY; nieces, Julie Brooks, Donna Wiley, and Amy Hand-Haycock; nephews, Steve Hand and Darren Hand; several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Betty loved watching TV, reading, chatting on the phone, and going to the movies with her family. She enjoyed the companionship of her cat, Tamara, for almost ten years.

Madrid: Rita J. Russell, age 83, passed away at Canton-Potsdam Hospital early Saturday morning (Sept. 15, 2018) surrounded by her loving family after a long illness.

Calling hours for Rita will be held Monday Sept. 17, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Madrid. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday Sept. 18, 2018 at St. John the Baptist Church, Madrid with Rev. Joseph A. Morgan officiating. Burial to follow funeral services in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Rita was born to the late Jay and Marguerite (Amlaw) Halladay on July 25, 1935. She graduated from Canton High School. Shortly after graduation she married her late husband Sidney J. Russell Jr. on August 28, 1954 at St. Mary’s Church in Canton, NY.

They began their family and resided in Waddington, NY and shortly after moved to Canton, NY.

She is survived by her loving daughters Wanda Tyo of Madrid, NY, Ellen Gage of Chester, MT and son Joseph J and Kelly (Ricciardi) Russell of Canton, NY. Rita is also survived by her five grandchildren; Laura Tyo and companion Jim Collins of Norwood, NY; David A. and Jodie Tyo of Madrid, NY; Michael A. Gage and companion Rachel Wickum of Great Falls, MT; Russell Sidney Gage and Tara of Chester, MT; and Erin and Caroline O’Connell of Massena, NY. Along with 11 great-grandchildren; Bethany and companion Samuel Wales, Sidney, Jaron, and Kayly-Jaye Belmore, Raychel, Alexia, and Jessie Dulin, Keegen, Liam, Byron, and Ridge Gage with one great-great-grandson Zayden Dulin.

She is also survived by her sibling Dorothy Briggs who resides in FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Rita is predeceased by her husband Sidney J Russell Jr., a grandson Joseph James Russell and son in-law David A. Tyo Sr.

Rita was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Madrid. She enjoyed playing Bingo and visiting the Casino with family and friends. Rita loved using her computer and helping Joe at the shop. She always could be counted on to be in attendance at the many school and sport activities for her grandchildren. Her pastime of fishing and spending time outdoors boating were enjoyed by all that shared in her many adventures, she also enjoyed flying with Joe.

There will be a private graveside service at Brookside Cemetery for Ann Elizabeth Keefer. Mrs. Keefer died September 9, 2018 at Summit Village where she had been a resident since November 11, 2014.

She was born March 29, 1944 in Watertown, New York the daughter of Everett and Madeleine Elizabeth Glasier Barrett. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse on Brookside Drive and later graduated from Adams Center Central School in 1960.

Mrs. Keefer was a homemaker and worked very hard on the Keefer Farm on Brookside Drive for many years. She enjoyed reading, genealogy, gardening, cooking, canning, making elaborate Christmas cookies for everyone and sewing.

Surviving are her two daughters and a son in law Michele Keefer of Syracuse, New York, Laura Burnham and her husband, Joe of Adams Center, her brother Charles Barrett of Watertown, New York, and her two granddaughters that meant the world to her, Megan and Katelyn Burnham both of Adams Center, New York.

Harold L. “Monk” Loomis

NORWOOD — Funeral Services with Fire Department Honors for 64 year old Harold L. “Monk” Loomis, a resident of 9 Ashley Street, Norwood, will be held Monday, September 17, 2018 at 4 p.m. at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood. Family and friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home in Norwood on Monday from 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery in Norwood at a later date. Mr. Loomis passed away early Saturday, September 15, 2018 at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena.

Monk is survived by his wife of 41 years, Madonna, Norwood; a son, Harold Jr. and his companion Rachel Hamm, Norwood; his three beloved grandchildren, Sapphire, Raylee and Raylin Loomis; his four brothers, Roy and Diane Garrow, Norwood; Jeff and Marie Garrow, Waterloo, Lynn Garrow, Waterloo, Randy and Leanne Garrow, Hammond; a sister, Marsha and Paul Trimm, Hermon; several nieces and nephews and his in-laws, Scotty Trombley, Debbie and Earl McBride, Monica and Tom Herne and Mickey and Michael Lebo. Monk was pre-deceased by his parents, a son Jordan Michael, a daughter Tameka Lynn and a brother, Robin Garrow.

Born in Potsdam, NY on March 5, 1954 to the late Maynard and Ruth Loomis Garrow, Monk was raised by his grandparents, Leon and Ethel Loomis. He attended Norwood-Norfolk School and started working for the Village of Norwood DPW. He was a dedicated worker for the Village as well as the Norwood Fire Department all his life until his retirement in 2010. He loved hunting, watching NASCAR and siting on his front porch visiting with friends and family. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Helen L. Havens Todd on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 11:00AM at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Heuvelton, NY with Fr. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Helen Todd passed away peacefully at home on September 15, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 75.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, James, her children Stephen Todd and his wife, Pam, of Watertown, NY; Susan Corrice and her husband, Lance, of Oakdale, CT; Kevin Todd of Watertown, NY; Karen Blevins and her husband, Steve, of Adams, NY and Jennifer Todd of Watertown, NY; her grandchildren Ryan, Zachary and Alexsandra Blevins, Lilian and Amanda Corrice, and Jack and Abigail Todd, her brothers and sisters Robert Havens, Sally Havens Bush, Ret. Col. Mary Lou Havens, Catherine (Liz) Havens Carpenter, and Jeremiah (Pete) Havens, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Joseph Havens, Jr.

She was born on March 6, 1943, in Ogdensburg, NY to Marion and Joseph Havens. She graduated from St. Mary’s School and entered the nursing program at Hepburn Hospital Nursing School. She continued on and received her BS degree in Nursing in 1969 from the University of Pennsylvania. On January 3, 1970, she was married to her true love, James Todd, at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg, N.Y. Helen later went on to teach at Canton ATC, only leaving to be a stay at home mom to her five children for many years. Helen returned to nursing in 1988 as part of the Prevent Home Care team for St. Lawrence County Public Health from which she retired in 2007. She dedicated her life to helping and supporting others through work, the community and church. Family was very important to Helen, raising 5 children and 7 grandchildren who love her dearly. Her homestead in Heuvelton, NY and St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Church were very special to her. In her free time she enjoyed watching sports (especially the Yankees, Rangers and Skating Saints), swimming, crocheting, praying, volunteering, taking walks, being a Eucharistic Minister and Altar Rosary Society member at St. Raphael’s and especially spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Helen will be missed by all.

Flora E. Sheldon

The funeral for Flora E. Sheldon will be 3 pm Saturday, September 22nd at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville with Rev. Robyn Hays, pastor of the Belleville United Methodist Church, officiating. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home prior to the service from 1 pm- 3pm. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Mrs. Sheldon passed away Thursday, September 13th at St. Luke’s Nursing Home, Oswego. She was 93 years old.

Flora was born in the Town of Ellisburg, a daughter to Charles Alfred and Nina Allard Eastman on December 12, 1924. A marriage to Herman LaVere ended in a divorce; she married Harris Sheldon April 28, 1996 at the Belleville United Methodist Church. Mr. Sheldon passed away January 2, 2018.

She is survived by her children, Barbara (Bill Appleton) Luttrell, Montana; Brenda (Fred) Larkin, Oswego; Beverly (Rolf) Zakarriasen, Reno, NV; Brian (Esther Cramer) LaVere, Portland, OR; Bonnie (Marvin) Cascadden, Michigan; her siblings, Lois Harbor, Fran Vanderbeek and Lucia Bliss. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband Harris, Flora was predeceased by the father of her children, Herman LaVere and several siblings. Flora volunteered for Mercy Hospital, Girl Scouts, played clarinet in the Community Band and was a member of New Watertown Senior Citizens. She enjoyed western and ballroom dancing and went to various nursing homes and danced for the residents.

She was active in Belleville United Methodist Church and enjoyed traveling, hiking and working in her gardens.

Phillip A. Lake

Phillip A. Lake, age 96, passed away at home on September 12, 2018 under the care of his loving family. He was born on September 26, 1921, in Augusta, Ontario, Canada to Reginald G and Amy I Lake. The family then moved to Watertown, NY. Phillip married Virginia R. Bouchard, on July 10, 1943, at St. Mary’s Church in Clayton, NY. They recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary at their home on the St Lawence River.

There will be a funeral mass at St. Mary Church in Clayton on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11:00 am. with Father Arthur LaBaff officiating the service.

Virginia lovingly cared for Phillip throughout his final days. He passed away peacefully only 2 weeks short of reaching his 97th birthday.

Besides his wife, Virginia, Mr. Lake is survived by his 5 children: Phillip Lake and his wife Ann of Indian Hills, Colo, Susette Gallinger and her husband Edward, of Bailey, Colo, Elizabeth Congleton and her husband Paul of Ogdensburg NY, Russell Lake of Clayton NY and Timothy Lake and his wife Maureen of Summerville, So Carolina. Ten grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren also survive him, as well as his sister, Jean Faust of Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Phillip was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Emma Eckert and Beulah Jessman, both of Watertown. Two infant grandchilren, Michael and Meagan Looney, also predeceased him.

Mr. Lake served in the US Army in Europe from 1944 – 1946. He was a paratrooper in the 101rst Airborne Division. Upon his return Phillip was employed by New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail Consolidated Railroad. He retired as an engineer after 42 years on the railroad. He was a member of the Lincoln League, Elks Club, VFW and American Legion.

Mr. Lake was known for his remarkable zest for life. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, as well as boating, cross-country skiing, bicycling, gardening and fishing with his wife Virginia. Their lives together were seen as an inspiration to all who knew them.

Phillip was a larger-than-life presence with a unique ready wit. His grandchildren have inherited a legacy of crazy jokes and special stories, mostly about his days on the railroad and life on the St. Lawrence River. He will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends.

Rose M. Dailey

Rose M. Dailey, 71, of 533 Davidson St., Watertown, passed September 16, 2018 at her home.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home 117 N. Massey St., Watertown. She will be cremated following the service and burial will take place at a later date.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at the funeral home.

She was born on June 28, 1947 in West Carthage, NY, daughter of Dorwin and Edna (Bonney) Murdock. Rose graduated from Carthage Central High School in 1965. She married Michael A. “Mickey” Dailey on November 1, 1969 at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. The couple then resided in Watertown, where her husband owns and operates Mickey’s Radiator Service.

Rose waitressed at various restaurants in the Watertown area for many years, provided child care in her home, and retired from Wal-Mart where she was a supervisor in the electronic department.

She enjoyed bowling, reading books, and spending time by her pool, baking apple pies and baklava for family and friends, collecting wind chimes and Mickey Mouse items and playing Yahtzee.

Among her survivors are her beloved husband, Michael A. “Mickey” Dailey, her three children and their spouses, Donna R. Howell and her fiancé Roger A. Cook, Watertown, Michele L. and Stacy B. Stanfa, Watertown, Michael A. and Nicole K. Dailey, Ogdensburg, four grandchildren, Taryn, Cody, Jillian and Ryan, a brother and two sisters in law, Gerald and Billie Murdock, Natural Bridge, Linda Murdock, Lowville, two sisters and their husbands, Shirley and Dan Christian, FL, Sally and Gary LaVancha, Natural Bridge, several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents a brother Jimmy Murdock passed before her .

Eleanor B. Prouty

Waterville- Eleanor B. Prouty, 67, wife of Thomas K., passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Waterville Residential Care Center, where she was surrounded by the loving care of her family.

Eleanor was born on July 27, 1951 in Lowville, a daughter of William and Mildred Bush Brown. She was raised in New Bremen, and attended Fr. Leo Memorial School, Croghan, graduating from Beaver River Central School with the Class of 1969. Eleanor graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Banking, Insurance & Real Estate from Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica in 1971.

On February 9, 1973, Eleanor was united in marriage with Thomas K. Prouty in Lowville. The couple settled in Lacona before returning to Lowville in 1975. In 1980 the couple moved to West Leyden where Eleanor was employed as a lunch monitor for West Leyden Elementary School. In 1985 the couple moved to Waterville where they have since lived. Eleanor worked for a time as a crossing guard for Waterville Central School before her longtime employment with SUNY Morrisville as a payroll examiner.

Besides her husband Thomas, Eleanor is survived by her children: Deborah (Lawrence) Stell, Stockbridge, and Matthew Thomas (Charlene) Prouty, Chadwicks; grandchildren Addison, Lilly and Wesley; her siblings: Charles (Betty Lou) Brown, Castorland, Steven (Paula) Brown, Connecticut, Bonnie (Tony) Aucter, Gerald (Renee) Brown, Rosella (Robert) Kloster, all of Croghan, Michael (Yvonne) Brown, Watertown, her sisters-in-law Shirleen Brown, Lowville and Constance Brown, Harrisville and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Edward Brown.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, at 2:00 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Interment will follow in West Leyden Cemetery. CARTHAGE – Shirley A. Newvine, 74, formally of Francis St., passed away at her daughter’s, Tammy, house on Friday, September 14, 2018 at her home, under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Shirley was born on November 20, 1943 in Potsdam, NY, the daughter of Floyd and Elsie Rose Brayton. She attended schools in Natural Bridge and Harrsiville. She was primarily a Homemaker.

She married James Newvine in 2002 in Carthage. James died on April 10, 2017.

Shirley is survived by three daughters, Tammy Tibbles Hall & her companion Kevin Plantz, Carthage; Angela (Alex) Deshane, Massena; Amy Jarvis, St. Regis Falls; a son, Chris Hendrickson, Wisconsin; one brother, Dwayne Brayton, Florida; three sisters, Rose Fischer, Carthage; Sharlene Adams, Watertown; Denise (John) Ivan, Watertown; a sister-in-law, Joan (Vincent) Casario, Mexico, New York; 10- grandchildren and 12- great-great grandchildren, 1-great-great grandchild, several nieces and nephews and her beloved Mittens.

She is predeceased by her husband, James, two brothers, Darryll Brayton and Ed. Carlton Brayton.

She loved bird watching, spending time with her family, working in her flower garden.

Calling hours will be held at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service located at 500 State Street in Carthage, NY on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 12:00-2:00pm and a Memorial Service will follow at 2:00pm in the Chapel of the Funeral Home with the Reverend John Ivan, officiating.

MANNSVILLE – Joanne McDonald Earl, 71, 120 Lilac Park Drive, died early Saturday morning, September 15, 2018 at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.

Born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada on September 27, 1946, the daughter of Hugh G. & Greta M. Horne Earl. She graduated from Lakewood High School in Long Beach, California.

Joanne married Clarence Earl on January 22, 1969 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was primarily a homemaker, who enjoyed antiques, sewing and crafts. She also loved listening to music, especially songs from the Motown era. She was formerly employed as a receptionist for Best Distributing and waitressed at the River Valley Inn in Mannsville. She also was an EMT and rode on the Mannsville Manor Ambulance Squad in the past.

She is survived by her daughters; Carrie (Stan) Tibbles, Watertown, Kelly Earl Rutter, Mannsville and Kimberly (Lucas) Simmons, Mannsville, along with 7 grandchildren and her brother, Ronald McDonald of Hillsboro, Oregon.

She is predeceased by two brothers; Stanley and Thomas McDonald and a sister, Joyce Madden.

The funeral for Gordon R. Kenyon will be Saturday September 22, 2018 at noon in the chapel of TLC Funeral Home, Inc. There will be a calling hour prior to the funeral from 11:00 a,m, til Noon at the funeral home. Mr. Kenyon died at the Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation in Syracuse on September 15, 2018. He was 59.

He was born May 18, 1959 in Rochester, New York the son of Leland L. and Leatrice Banker Gollaher. He graduated from S. Jefferson Central School. He married Jane Ferry on July 28, 2007 in Rochester, New York.

Mr. Kenyon enjoyed going to carnivals, camping, fishing bowling, watching wrestling, was a NASCAR fan, a Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed hockey.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to TLC Funeral Home, Inc. 17321 Old Rome State Rd. Watertown, New York 13601 to assist in covering funeral costs.

Among his survivors are his wife Jane, a son Gordon Kenyon Jr. of Watertown, two brothers and a sister in law David and Shirley Kenyon of Baldwinsville, NY, Leland Gollaher and his fiance’ Shirley Woods of Mexico, NY, his sister and brother in law Mrs. Daniel (Robin) Faas of Adams, and 1 aunt, 1 uncle, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lee M. Babcock, 83, of Adams Center, died while at home on Monday September 17, 2018. His funeral service will be 10:30 am Friday September 21 at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams. Burial will follow in the Smithville Cemetery, Smithville, NY. Calling hours will be from 5:00-8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Born December 20, 1934 in Watertown, NY, son of Carl and Edith Babcock, he attended school in Henderson. He worked on the family farm before entering the military, and after his discharge, he continued farming in Henderson, then as an independent milk hauler. He later worked at Queens Farms Dairy in Pierrepont Manor until his retirement.

He married Mary Ann Kepner on December 10, 1959 at the Assembly of God Church in Adams. Mrs. Babcock died April 25, 2001.

He later married Joyce Brown.

Mr. Babcock is survived by four sons Terry (and fiancé Jody Delles), Adams Center, Larry (Marion), Adams Center, Jerry (Charlotte), Clayton, Gary (Deborah), Clayton; two daughters Debra (Rick) Ketchum, Oswego, Cynthia Otis, Farmington, NY; seventeen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, one great great grand daughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.

He enjoyed attending Fiddlers dances, making lawn signs, learning to play various musical instruments, camping, fishing and motorcycling.

Brenda J. Bridge

CARTHAGE – Brenda J. Bridge, 68, died early Monday morning, September 17, 2018 at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, where she had been a resident for several months.

Brenda was born on December 31, 1949 in Carthage, a daughter of the late Robert L. and Marie B. (Montgomery) Hoffman. She graduated from Carthage Central School and went on to be employed as a Taxi Driver for Day and Night Taxi. She was also a bartender at Gary’s Pub.

On March 21, 1970 she married Arnold G. Bridge.

She is a member of the Carthage VFW Post 7227 as well as the Carthage American Legion Post 789. She loved knitting and crocheting, and most of all, spending time with her family and friends.

Brenda is survived by a son, Robert John (Kathy) Hoffman, Carthage; a daughter, Jody Lynn Hall and her fiancé Joseph Passage, Carthage; a step-son, Eric Bridge, Carthage; a step-daughter, Renee Bridge, North Carolina; a sister, Marsha A. (Dennis) Sears, Deferiet; a nephew, Robert W. Hoffman, Carthage; a great-nephew, Brock B. Hoffman, Carthage; one granddaughter, Heather N. Hall and fiancé Jason Passage, Carthage; and three great-granddaughters, Aubryana, Brayleigh, and Harper.

She is predeceased by her husband, Arnold who died on February 7, 1998; a step-son, Arnold Bridge Jr.; and a brother, Bernard Hoffman.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 1-3 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc. A funeral service will immediately follow in the Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 PM. A reception will be held after the service at the Carthage VFW Post 7227.
