Gail A Pearl, 82, of Pulaski passed away at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse Friday October 26, 2018.

Calling hours will be Tuesday October 30th from 5-7pm with a Memorial Service at 7pm at the Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek. Burial will be 10am Thursday November 1st at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Gail was born July 6, 1936 in Rochester, NY to Henry and Geraldine (Grimshaw) Bubel. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy, Rochester, NY in 1954. Gail was office manager/bookkeeper at Bubel’s Marina in Sandy Pond, worked at DSS in Mexico for a time and later was Executive Assistant at Modern A/C in Clearwater, Fl retiring in 1988. She married Ernest Anderson in February 1959.

Gail was a member of Richland Christian Church, a church organist/pianist and a teacher in children and youth ministries. She also enjoyed singing in a Capella groups, Sweet Adeline’s and Red Hat Society. Gail was active in events at Springbrook Apartments.

Surviving are her son Kenneth (Julia) Anderson; 3 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers Lawrence (Rachel Yap) Bubel; Henry (Sharon) Bubel; brother in law James Matthews and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and a sister Marilyn (Sis) Matthews and her husband Ernest.

Donations may be made in her honor to the Richland Christian Church.

Richard Joseph Havranek

Richard Joseph Havranek of Estero, FL and Fishers Landing, NY, 77 passed away after a brief illness on October 25, 2018 at the Hospice House of Jefferson County in Watertown, NY.

He was born in Yonkers, NY to Joanne and Joseph Havranek, graduated from Yonkers High School and earned his B.A. from Hobart College where he met Mary Slate who became his wife of 52 years. While at Hobart he was a member of the varsity football team as well as the Air Force ROTC. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the USAF.

While in the Air Force, Rich completed his MBA at Auburn University. His many tours of duty over his military career included a remote tour in Turkey, 3 years in Germany as well as several assignments throughout the United States.

After his 20-year career in the Air Force, Rich went on to earn his Doctorate in Business Management from Syracuse University. His second career was as a professor at SUNY Utica-Rome, where he rose to become the Dean of the Business School.

Rich, a devoted husband and father loved time spent with his immediate and extended families, summers on the St. Lawrence River, especially at Wee Isle, and being with his great friends – and an occasional round of golf. He was known for his sense of humor, quick wit, integrity and compassion.

Rich is survived by his beloved family, wife Mary, son Richard of Austin, TX, son James (Lisa) and adored grandchildren Sophie, Wynne and Burke of St. Louis, MO. He also leaves two brothers, Joseph (Barbara) of Greenwich, CT and James (Mary Kate) of Yonkers, NY along with his brothers’ children Bill, John, Joe, Luke, Maggie and David.

His brother-in-law James Slate (Sally) live nearby with their sons Tim and Jay with whom he enjoyed spending a lot of special time each summer on the River. His nieces Julie Kormos (Jamie), Jenny McCoy (Ricky) and nephew Paul Slate (Benita) and their children Caitlyn, Aiden and Skylar also had a special place in his heart.

Charlie Dashnaw, 65, of Watertown,N.Y., formerly of Antwerp,N.Y., passed away at 2:50 am on October 27, 2018 with his family beside him. He is survived by his three children; daughter, Shannon E. Booth and husband Robert C., Watertown, daughter, Kirsti L. Davis and Matthew J. McDonald of Ogdensburg, and son, Cheyenne J. and his wife Renee L. Norfolk, N.Y.; his children’s mother, Dorinda F. Stanford, Watertown, brother in law Bob Henderson, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, and numerous “adopted” children and grandchildren. Charlie was predeceased by his partner in life, Kathryn N. Robinson, his parents, Claron J. and Dora M. Daniels Dashnaw, and his sisters, Christine K. Doherty and Candy L. Henderson.

Marilyn Rae Locke, 83, of Dutton Road, died Monday, October 29, 2018, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

As per her request there will not be any services. Marilyn was born in Michigan on February 20, 1935. On January 2, 1954, she married Ernest F. Locke, Jr. and the couple moved to Canton in 1958.

In addition to her husband, Ernie, she is survived by her three children, Susan Brander, Catherine Curtis and Ernest Locke, III; three grandchildren; a step-grandchild; two great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.

HARRISVILLE – Kathy R. Wescott, 59, of, Harrisville, NY, lost her two year, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer on Sunday, October 28, 2018, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg.

The funeral will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Harrisville United Methodist Church with Rev. Tracy Cook, Pastor, officiating. Calling hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service, at the church. Kathy is survived by two sons, Rusty Ray Wescott and Nicholas Jake Wescott, both of Harrisville; two grandsons, Jadyn Forrest Wescott, and Rush Tamblin Wescott; her siblings and their spouses, Phillip and Susan Smith of Shortsville, NY; Linda and James Phillips of Columbia Station, OH; Billie and James Manchester of Harrisville; Charles P. Smith of Harrisville; James and Lisa Smith of Harrisville; Michelle and Kevin Virkler of Lowville; a brother-in-law, Pete Kempney; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, John Ray Wescott, who died on September 29, 2012; a sister, Virginia Malbouf Kempney; an infant brother, Wayne Paul Smith; and a sister-in-law, Cheryl Smith.

Kathy was born on March 20, 1959 in Carthage, NY, a daughter of the late George and Marion Pitts Smith. She graduated from Harrisville Central School in 1977, and On October 7, 1978, she married John Ray Wescott at Harrisville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Janet Gibbs officiating. Kathy raised her family and was a cook for the Sahara Restaurant, Carthage for many years, and had also cooked at other local restaurants. Kathy worked in the cafeteria at Harrisville Central School for the past several years. She was a fabulous cook and enjoyed bargain shopping, her walks, her family, friends and especially spending time with her grandsons, her loves!

Kathy was a true inspiration to everyone around her, she will be greatly missed.

Kathy’s family would like to give a huge thank you to Dr. LeLe and the nurses at the Winter Cancer Treatment Center in Ogdensburg, NY.

LOWVILLE, NY ~ Regina M. Ostrowski, 85, formerly of State Rt. 812, Town of New Bremen, died Monday, October 29, 2018 in the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, Lowville, where she had resided since March, 2017.

Born August 21, 1933, a daughter of Harold and Mary (Hellinger) Campany, she was a graduate of Lowville Academy.

She married Francis W. Ostrowski on May 10, 1952 in the former St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Castorland. Mr. Ostrowski, her loving husband of 56 years, died on May 20, 2008.

For much of her life Regina was a homemaker taking care of her children.

Mrs. Ostrowski was a long-time communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Croghan.

Throughout her life she enjoyed boating, traveling, camping, homemaking, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Regina will be greatly missed by all.

Surviving are her four children, Judy A. and husband, John Munger, of Castorland, Linda M. and husband, Joseph Davies, of Fairview, TX, Paul F. Ostrowski, of Chester, VT, and Philip J. and wife, Doris Ostrowski, of Sheridan, WY; nine grandchildren, Jodie (Shawn) Tiernan, Jolene Munger, Joanna Habermann, Justin Munger, Samantha (Miguel) Franco, Stephen (Katie) Davies, Stephanie (Bryan) Schroter, Raechel (Logan) Geiss and Luke Ostrowski, and six great grandchildren plus one on the way; two sisters, Pauline E. Murphy, of Croghan, and Joyce M. Kloster, of Rochester, NY; three brothers, Harold W. (Rose) Campany, of Carthage, Donald J. Campany, of Castorland, and Norman F. (Wanda) Campany, of Monroe, NC, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Shirley Ostrowski.

Regina’s funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018, beginning with a 9:45 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial from St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.

Massena: Catherine D. O’Brien, 95, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 29, 2018 after a brief illness. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Saturday November 3, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church with burial to follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Louisville. The family will receive family and friends at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral.

Catherine is survived by her daughters: Mary (Jack Mulcahy) of Alexandria VA and Ann (Tim LaRose) of Brooklyn NY and her grandchildren: Catherine Mulcahy of Arlington VA, John Mulcahy of Alexandria VA, Monica Mulcahy of Somerville MA and Emma LaRose, a sophomore at UVM in Burlington VT. She is also survived by her brother Thomas L. (Siegrid) Doud and her nieces (Patricia White of Canton and Mary Ellen Thibault of Phoenix NY) and nephew (Tim Doud of Massena) and their families. She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 52 years in August 2009 and her daughter, Eileen J. O’Brien, in September 2012.

Catherine was born at the home of her paternal grandparents in Louisville NY on May 26, 1923, the daughter of Thomas P. and Olive (Foley) Doud. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Massena High School (1940) and the Albany Business College (1943). She was most proud of her graduation as a non-traditional student from SUNY Canton (1985) and SUNY Potsdam with a bachelor’s degree in history in 1991. She married Gerald M. O’Brien on October 5, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church.

Catherine held many jobs over her career which included telephone operator, secretary at Massena High School and several secretarial positions at Alcoa, retiring in 1986. She was active in the community, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, the Massena Museum and with the bereavement and liturgy teams at Sacred Heart parish. In addition she was an active member of Sacred Heart parish, the Ladies Christian Benevolent Association (LCBA), Massena Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, St. Lawrence County Historical Association, Massena College Club, Massena Women’s Democratic Club and was one of the first women members of the BPOE. She was a charter member of the Massena Aluminum Historical Association.

Catherine’s hobbies included playing bridge (she was a member of the same bridge club for over fifty years), traveling with her husband and family (especially to York Beach ME as well as some memorable trips with Elderhostel), researching her genealogy, and gardening. She thoroughly enjoyed baking cookies, having tea parties and playing board and card games with her grandchildren.

Michael Thomas Ashcroft

CARTHAGE -- Michael Thomas Ashcroft, 73, of Trenton, Florida, passed away at home on Wednesday, October 24th, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Born October 30th, 1944, he was the son of James C and Rita Bodfield Ashcroft of Carthage. He attended Carthage Augustinian Academy. A United States Navy Veteran, he worked for years at Carthage Area Hospital. He was an active member in the Elks Club, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Volunteer at Haven Hospice and a member of Holy Cross Mission in Cross City, Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marguerite Plumadore-Ashcroft and four children. Pamela Ashcroft-Daniels and her companion, Mark J. Heath, Clarksville, Florida; Darren Ashcroft and Lori Cronk-Ashcroft of Carthage, NY; Suzanne Ashcroft-Taylor and Dan of Rome, NY; and Krishna Ashcroft-Stemple and Mike of Trenton, Florida. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He has two surviving brothers, James B. and Gerald and one Sister, Kathy Ashcroft-West, all of Carthage.

A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. James Catholic Church, Carthage at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.

Timothy Charles King

Timothy Charles King passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2018 which would have been his father’s 87th birthday.

Born July 5, 1965 to Oscar C. and Marilyn C. King.

Tim graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in Brasher Falls, NY in 1983.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for 3 years.

Tim moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin and worked for several companies before starting his own successful painting company servicing apartment complexes and private properties under the name Shelle’s Painting.

Tim is predeceased by his wife, Shelle (Nitke) King; his parents; and his brother, Tyler King.

Tim is survived by brothers, Thomas (Susan) King, CT and a brother from another mother, Jeffrey (Christine) Becksted, Munich, Germany. He is also survived by sisters, Mary (Kevin) Swenie, NC, Patricia (Daniel) Kopish, WI, Paula (Lloyd) Hurlbut, NY, and Pendra King (Kevin Fiske), NY.

Tim was loved by his niece Teri Kopish, WI, and nephews, Tony Kopish, MN, and Joshua (Maggie) Handest, NC.

He is also survived by many cousins, who mostly live in the Massena NY area.

Tim will be missed by many, especially by his Wolff Den crew in Berlin WI.

Family and friends my visit with the family and pay their respects to Tim on Saturday November 3, 2018 from 10-11:00 a.m. at the Wiecki-Skipchak Funeral Home of Berlin.

A family eulogy will follow and all are invited to the Wolff Den for a celebration of life for Tim.

Inurnment will take place at a later date in Lakeview Memorial Park of Oshkosh.

Michael J. Grant, 75, Rt 3, Great Bend, passed away Tuesday October 30th, 2018 at the Samaritan Medical Center.

A prayer service will be 9:15am Saturday, November 3rd at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with a 10 am funeral mass at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Jonas Tondayu officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, November 2nd from 2pm – 4 pm and 7pm – 9pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife Elaine (Sholett) Grant, Great Bend; his son Matthew (Margaret) Grant, Watertown; two daughters Nicole Grant, Charleston, SC and Alexandra (Monte) Prow, Boise, Idaho; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; two sisters Claudia (Don) Paddock, AZ and Mary Anne (John) Collins, TN; several nieces and nephews. Two brothers Timothy J. and Gary S. predeceased him.

Mike was born in Watertown March 26, 1943, a son to Jerry and Flora Mecomonaco Grant. He graduated from Holy Family school and later Immaculate Heart Academy in 1961. Following his high school education, Michael served active duty in the US Air Force from 1962-1966, and was stationed in San Antonio, TX and Yokahama, Japan in the personnel departments. He received a degree in Data Processing from JCC in 1975.

Michael went to work at the New York Air Brake follow his honorable discharge from the military. He retired in 2006 as the Administration Liaison between manufacturing and sales at the Air Brake. After retiring from the Air Brake, Michael served as financial administrator for the Sacred Heart Missionaries and Church.

Michael was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, serving as a lector and eucharistic minister. He served on the church’s finance council, worked Bingo and assisted the incoming pastors at the church. Mike was an avid bowler and received many awards as a member of the 800 Club.

During his retirement, Mike and Elaine enjoyed traveling to various places throughout the US and Canada and spent many winters in Phoenix, AZ.

COLTON—Funeral Services for 82 year old Edward E. Fisher, a resident of 31 Symonds Square, Colton, will be held privately at the Colton Methodist Church with Pastor Brooke Newell presiding. There will be no public calling hours. Edward passed away unexpectedly early Monday, October 29, 2018 at his home. Edward is survived by a son, Kennon Fisher, West Hartford , Connecticut; a daughter, Kimberly J. Fisher, Colton; his two beloved grandchildren, William and Elizabeth Fisher; West Hartford, Connecticut as well as several nieces and nephews. Edward was pre-deceased by his parents, his wife Rosalie just earlier this year and his three sisters, Marguerite Rodwell, Sarah Frank and Mary Caster.

Born in South Colton, NY on July 10, 1936 to the late Earl and Marion O’Malley Fisher. Edward married Rosalie Caster on September 9, 1955 at the Baptist Church in Potsdam, officiated by the Rev. Orin Hess. Edward retired from Clarkson University as a locksmith. Edward and Rosalie had a special bond and were rarely seen without the other. He was a communicant of the Colton Methodist Church. Edward loved attending the Clarkson hockey games, traveling and camping with his family, woodworking and his dogs. As with Rosalie, family was of the highest priority as he enjoyed spending time with his family, children and grandchildren. Kristine A. Clark, 70, of 440 S. Clinton St., Carthage, died with her husband and her daughter by her side on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Carthage.

Kristine was born on September 28, 1948 in Carthage, the daughter of the late George and Cecilia (Perfetto) McMahon. She was a 1966 graduate of Carthage Central High School. A marriage to Gregory P. VanWyck on August 10, 1968 ended in divorce. She married Frank L. Clark on December 31, 1989 in Las Vegas, NV. Kristine worked for the Carthage Republican Tribune and Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Watertown before working as a legal secretary for Faye Moran and later with the Conboy Law Firm in Carthage. She was a former Girl Scout Leader.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Carthage, Northern Cruisers and the Highway Legends.

She is survived by her husband: Frank L. Clark of Carthage, one daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer M. and Craig Waite of Champion, two grandchildren, Andrew M. O’Connor and Kelsey Waite and nieces and nephews. Two brothers, George E. McMahon and Loren A. McMahon died before her.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, November 5 at Felts Mills Cemetery with Wayne Arnold officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.

He is predeceased by a brother, Bernard Guy Hubbard; two sisters, Gloria Rose Hubbard and Cassie Mae Johnson; a brother-in-law, Paul Flint.

Kevin was born on July 9, 1960 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late George Bernard and Vivian Grace Knapp Hubbard. He attended South Lewis Central School and has worked as a self-employed handyman for the past several years. Kevin enjoyed socializing and spending time with his family. He liked to attend auctions and cheer on his favorite football team, the New York Giants. Kevin liked to keep active, he preferred to be working and enjoyed the outdoors.
