Raymond C. “Joe” Mead, 84, formerly of Canton, died Monday, January 7, 2018, at Spartansburg Regional Health Center in South Carolina. He was the husband of the late Loretta M. “Lorry” Mead, who died in 2007.

Mary Louise Anderson Talbot, 87, passed away surrounded by her family on January 7, 2019 after a brief illness. Mary graduated as a Registered Nurse from the University of Rochester School of Nursing. She was active in the United Methodist Church in Carthage, NY, and other local clubs and organizations. She enjoyed gardening and loved music, including singing in choirs, playing the piano and listening to classical and vocal music. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Warren C. Talbot. She is survived by her children, Anne (Steve) Campbell of Lexington, KY, and David (Suzanne) Talbot of Pawcatuck, CT; two granddaughters Hannah and Meghan Talbot; two grandsons Adam (Laura) Campbell and Bryan (Sarah) Campbell; one great-granddaughter Allison Beth Campbell; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY, on Wednesday, January 9 at 4:00, with visitation beginning at 3:00 until the service begins. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Carthage, NY, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to either the Wesley Village Benevolent Fund, (Attention Barbara Mullins) 1125 Lexington Road, Wilmore, KY 40390, or the Carthage United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 608 State Street, Carthage, NY 13619.

January 8, 2019. Thomas I. Osborn MD, 81, of Manlius, passed away peacefully after a short illness with his family by his side. He was born in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High school in 1955, RPI with a BS in 1959, received his Masters degree in Electrical Engineering in 1964 and obtained his professional engineers license and graduated from Upstate Medical Center in 1972. He practiced as a family physician in Cazenovia and Fayetteville from 1975 to 2017.

Tom ‘s favorite passion was his grandchildren; he attended all their sports and activities. He and his family spent their summers at Knobby Knoll, Sackets Harbor.

He was a member of both DeWitt Community Church and the United Methodist Church of Fayetteville.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sharon Burdick Osborn; five children and their families, daughter, Kimberly Osborn Rhodes (Mark), Christopher and Amanda (Andrew) Arnold; son, Kevin Burdick Osborn (Chrissie), Kendra (Patrick) Delaney, Brittany, and Robert; daughter, Kendra Osborn Casey (Dan), Neal (Elizabeth), Heather, and Nathan; son, Kyle Thomas Osborn (Kelly), Thomas, Randall, Sarah, and Michelle; daughter, Katherine Osborn Casey (Matthew), Jacob and Hannah; nephew, Greene Family, Daniel, Laura, Morgan, Avery, Carter, Maggie and Charlie; brother, Donald Eugene Osborn; and Scott; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, January 10th at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. The funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 11th at the United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, 601 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. A reception will follow the service. Spring burial will be in Sackets Harbor.

Grace E. Tario, 91, a longtime resident of Belleville and widow of Wilfred Tario, passed away Tuesday morning at University Hospital in Syracuse following a brief illness.

Her funeral will be 3 pm Friday, January 11th, 2019 at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Spring burial will be in the Woodside Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from

1 pm – 3pm at the funeral home prior to the funeral.

Grace is survived by three daughters Sharon (James) Tiller, Adams Center, Susan (Paul) Cooper, Bumpass, VA, Debra (Richard) Spry, Henderson; a son William J. (Joyce Pickering) Tario, Adams Center; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews to include a niece Nancy (Raymond) Counterman, Baldwinsville who she was very close to.

Grace was predeceased by a son John in 1969; 3 sisters Teresa Peters, Euceba Miller and Clara Vainner and 2 brothers Joseph and Russell Bandy.

She was born in Watertown September 6, 1927, a daughter to Sidney and Grace Pearson Bandy. She graduated from Watertown schools. Grace lived in Watertown and Antwerp for several years. She married Wilfred Tario November 7, 1943 in Watertown. Mr. and Mrs. Tario moved to Belleville in 1956. Grace worked at Browns Nursing Home in Adams Center in the 1960’s. She later worked as a domestic in the area for many years, moving to Adams in 1997. Mr. Tario passed away on May 27th, 1981.

Grace was a longtime member of the Belleville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed being with and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a selfless person and would help anyone who was in need.

James Dean Scott, 68 Watertown, passed away Monday, January 7th at Hospice Residence at the Ellis Farm surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday January 13th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown. Calling hours will precede the service 11 am – 1 pm at the funeral home.

James was born September 29, 1950 in Gouverneur, a son to Leland and Betty Chisholm Scott. He was affectionately referred to as “Deaner”.

James attended Indian River Central School then enlisted is the United States Navy June 1970 serving on the USS Suribachi in the Mediterranean Sea where he developed the love of the sea. He was honorably discharged April of 1972.

He moved to Florida in 1977 where he remained until 2011 moving back to New York following an illness. He resided with his mother in Adams Center then moved to County View Apartments in Adams and later had to be transferred to Samaritan Keep Home.

James enjoyed the time spent on the water fishing and on his boat.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Scott Redden, Adams Center, NY; 3 sisters, Diane Jordan, Philadelphia, NY; Susan (Ken) Lowe, Dexter, NY; Dianne Scott, Adams Center, NY; 2 brothers, Norman Scott, Orange City, Fla; Wayne Scott, Watertown, NY and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

James was predeceased by his father, Leland Scott, 2 sisters, Linda Lawler, Phyllis Coutermarsh and 3 brothers-in-law, Joseph Jordan, Dennis Lawler and Jeffrey Coutermarsh.

POTSDAM – Funeral services with military honors for 59 year old Scott A. Dafoe, a resident of 365 Heath Road, Potsdam and formerly of Norwood, will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Philip’s Church in Norwood with Mother Kathryn Boswell presiding. Scott passed away Tuesday, January 08, 2019 at home with his family at his side. Scott is survived by his wife of 37 years, Linda, Potsdam; his three sons, Scott and Charity Dafoe II, Brasher Falls; Eric Dafoe, Norwood and Ryan Dafoe, Potsdam; his two beloved grandchildren, Aurora and Wesley Dafoe; his mother, Myrtle Butterfield, Canton; two brothers, Myron “Mike” and Linda L. Dafoe, Canton; Chad Dafoe, North Dakota and his sister, Amy and John Oney, Dekalb as well as several nieces and nephews. Scott was pre-deceased by his father and twin infant brothers.

Born in Canton, NY on November 18, 1959 to Myron and Myrtle Wilson Dafoe, Scott graduated from high school and attended college. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in February of 1978 and served his country, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in October of 1995. Upon his return home, Scott was employed for Atco in Ogdensburg, Corning in Canton and most recently, Kraft in North Lawrence. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to fish and go camping as well as work in his gardens. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Canton. Loretta J. (Rich) Fralick

Loretta J. (Rich) Fralick, 96, formerly of Burrville and Adams Center, passed away Wednesday, January 9th, 2019 at the Samaritan Medical Center where she had been a patient for 3 days.

The funeral will be 1 pm Monday, January 14th, 2019 at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Rev. Toby Schilling. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours are from 11 am – 1 pm at the funeral prior to the funeral.

Loretta is survived by two sons, Michael (Cherri) Rich, Deer River and Shane (Beth) Rich, Prince George, VA. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was born in Fulton, NY, April 7, 1922, a daughter to Leland and Bertha DeMott Tifft Cooper. She graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1941 and the Watertown School of Commerce in 1942.

Loretta was employed by Taggart Paper Co and Tilo Roofing Co. as a secretary from 1944-1953. She went to work for WWNY TV in 1954, retiring after 31 years as the stations Traffic Manager in 1985.

She married Hampton Rich May 10, 1947. Mr. and Mrs. Rich lived near Burrville from 1948 until Mr. Richs passing in July of 1978. Mrs. Rich continued to live there until 1981. She married Glenn F. Fralick, Sr. May 15th, 1982. Mr. and Mrs. Fralick resided on the South Harbor Road, Adams Center. Mr. Fralick predeceased her on November 21, 1996. Loretta lived in Carthage at the William Dalton Estates until moving to the Samaritan Summit Village.

Loretta was a longtime member of the Burrville United Church of Christ, serving on the church’s board of trustees and Women’s Fellowship group. She was an active the YWCA for many years and served on the joint management committee of the YWCA and YMCA and served as president of the YWCA Business Girls Club in 1946. Loretta as a 2 term past president of the Watertown Business and Professional Women Club Local Chapter of Watertown and past director of district 5 where she was selected as “Woman of the Year” by that group. She served as NY State Public Relations chairperson for 2 years and served on various committees. She was a member of the American Women in Radio and Television, and the Mercy Hospital Auxilary. Loretta presented the “Annual Citizenship Award” in 1970 on behalf of the Watertown School of Commerce.

Loretta enjoyed crafts, gardening, sewing, singing and volunteer work. She enjoyed traveling to historic places with Stonehenge being her favorite.

Surviving is her husband of 72 years, Joseph Montgomery of Ogdensburg; two sons Lawrence & Lucille Montgomery of Ogdensburg and David & Mickie Montgomery of Concord NC; two daughters Marcia & Joseph Derrigo of Ogdensburg and Paula & Derrick Miller of Syracuse; nine grandchildren Lori & Craig Sibley of Heuvelton, Joseph & Andrea Montgomery of Rensselaer Falls, Larry Montgomery of Canton, Melissa & Scott Murray of NC, Melinda & Pete Hefti of NC, Jill & Lewis Alston of NC, Dawn Moore-Montgomery of NC, Joseph & Julia Derrigo of Chevy Chase, MD and Nicole Miller of VA; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews & cousins.

Margaret was predeceased by her siblings Walter “Mickey” Mickens, Joan Mickens, Betty Powers, Jane Bresett and Catherine Roberts.

She was born on August 31, 1928 in Gouverneur NY, a daughter of the late Walter & Beatrice (Brayton) Mickens. She graduated from Philadelphia High School, and later married Joseph Montgomery on November 3, 1946.

Margaret was a stay at home wife and mother that raised four beautiful children and cared for her husband with love. She was a member of both the women’s bowling league and couples league in Ogdensburg for many years, a member of the Jaycee’s Organization and an active March of Dimes Volunteer. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling, shopping, playing cards, and eating at Phillips Diner.

NORFOLK – Cynthia L. “Cyndee” Deleel, 58, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 8, 2019, in the company of her daughter and son-in-law, at University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington after a lengthy illness.

Cyndee was born April 4, 1960 in Massena, the daughter of Donald and Betty (Kellison) Deleel. She graduated a year early from Massena High School in 1977. She then continued her education at Mater Dei College earning her Associates Degree in Social Services. She later achieved her Bachelors Degree in Sociology and Human Services from SUNY Potsdam and her Masters Degree in Education Counseling from St. Lawrence University.

Cyndee used her extensive education in her role as as a Chemical Dependency Counselor for the St. Lawrence County Community Services Department. Later, she participated in the Fibromyalgia Support Group in Potsdam. She was an avid reader.

Cyndee is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Desiree and Jarred Dailey of Norfolk; her son, Michael Ward of St. Regis Falls; her parents, Don and Betty Deleel of Massena; her sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Charles Cruickshank of Massena; and her aunts, Barb Conto and Jean Deleel.

She was predeceased by a sister, Debbi J. Howie in November 2005, many aunts and uncles, and her beloved and loving companion, Shadow.

Services will be held privately at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. Burial will be in the spring in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Louisville.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider contributions to the Norfolk Rescue Squad or the Norfolk Fire Department.

Waddington: Leila M. Hunter, 97, of Wayne Hunter Road, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 9, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Friends and family may be received on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Madrid. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at the United Church of Madrid. Burial will be held in the spring in Madrid Cemetery.

Leila was born on August 10, 1921 in Stockholm, NY the daughter of Earl and Elva (Preston) Moulton. She attended Madrid High School and graduated in 1941. On April 16, 1942 she married Wayne H. Hunter. He predeceased her in 2011. Leila worked as a sales clerk at Lewis & Company in Potsdam for several years followed by Whites Hardware, 13 years and later Aubuchon Hardware, eight years, retiring in 2000. She went back to work at Madrid Family Hardware for seven years.

Leila was a member of the Madrid Grange #962 since 1946, where she was Secretary and Treasurer for many years. She was a lifetime member of the United Church of Madrid where she held several offices and worked on many committees, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was a Lay Speaker. Leila was very active in her community and was always willing to lend a hand. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, upholstery, and gardening.

Leila is survived by her five children, a son Michael Hunter of Waddington, Carolyn and Bill Dunbar of Old Joe, AR, Linda and David Thorbahn of Waddington, Alice and Stephen Reed of Potsdam, Susan and Leslie Haas of Waddington; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; a brother, Harland Moulton of Champlain, NY; two sisters, Elva Yolton of Canastota, NY and Norma Paradis of Hubbardsville, NY, She was predeceased by three brothers, George, Elmer, and Lyle Moulton.

Jean Barton Heady

On Wednesday, January 9, 2019 long time Clayton resident Jean Barton Heady passed away at her home under the care of of her family and loving caregivers. She was 81. Jean was born on March 17, 1937, in the town of Orleans, daughter of the late Paul C. and Evelyn M. Schultz Barton. She grew up on her family’s farm on East Ridge Road in LaFargeville. She graduated from LaFargeville Central School in 1955 and received her Diploma in Nursing from the House of the Good Samaritan in 1958. Jean furthered her education receiving her BS in Nursing from Syracuse University in 1980. She then went on to obtain her MS in Nursing with Concentrations in Community Health Administration from Syracuse University in 1986. Jean married William “Billy” Turgeon on October 18, 1958 at St. Mary’s Church in Clayton. After the death of Billy Turgeon in 1968, she married Dr. William C. Heady on April 1, 1969, also at St. Mary’s. Dr. Heady died in 1998. Jean held several positions in her nursing career. She started at E. J. Noble Hospital, Alexandria Bay and went on to work for Dr. Heady in his Clayton practice. Jean began her career at Jefferson County Public Health in 1986. She was Assistant Director of Patient Services and Supervising Public Health Nurse until she became Director of Patient Services in 1987. She retired in December of 2001. She received several awards during her nursing career, including the New York State Nurses Association Legislative Award, the Ruth F. Wilson Award from the New York State Home Care Association, the American Nurses Association Pearl McIver Public Health Nursing Award, and the Foundation of New York State Nurses Award for Professional Achievements. Jean was Clayton Citizen of the Year in 1974. Jean was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, Lay Reader, Bereavement Committee member, and was a former Trustee of the church. She was Past President and Board Member of District 6 NYSNA, and a Delegate for the American Nurses Association. She was a member of NYSNA, Sigma Theta Tau, and its Committee on Rural Health Nursing and was a Co-Founder of Clayton Clinic of North Country Children’s Clinic. Jean was a Past Board Member of both Thousand Islands Emergency Rescue Service (TIERS) and Thousand Islands Textile Museum, Chairperson of New York State Rural Health Council, and a Board Member for the Volunteer Transportation Center of Jefferson County. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, her family, and spending time on the River. Jean is survived by her six children, William T. Heady, Clayton, Victoria H. Rancier and husband, Michael, Naples, FL, Elisabeth “Lisa” Heady-Simpson and husband, Michael Simpson, Collins Landing, Richard A. Heady and wife, Janet, Cape Vincent, Deborah T. Foisy and husband, Matthew, LaFargeville, and Thomas W. Turgeon and wife, Lori, Clayton. She was predeceased by a son Clark Heady in 1974. Jean has eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; five siblings, Joyce Bancroft and husband, David, Oxbow, Frederick Barton, Richard Barton and wife, Kay, and Joan Fitchette, all of LaFargeville, and James Barton and wife, Carol, Clayton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to Jean’s caregivers, Cheryl Karpel, Valerie Fulmer, Jennifer Dennie, Audrey Boname, and Barbara Lopez. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 13, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton from 3 - 6 PM. Jeffery A. Bubb, 41, of Watertown passed away Wednesday morning, January 9, 2019, at Samaritan Medical Center.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Wednesday, January 16, from 4:30 - 6:30 PM followed by the funeral service at the funeral home at 7 PM with Pastor John Coulliette, First Baptist Church, Black River, presiding.

Jeff was born in Watertown on October 5, 1977, son of Raymond A. and Jackie L. (Augustus) Bubb. After moving downstate, he graduated from Great Neck Northern High School, Great Neck, Long Island. He enjoyed working for Citibank in Manhattan. His family’s nickname for him was “comic book nerd”. Jeff was able to express himself with his artistic ability, working in several mediums, especially working with wood. His family remembers his kindness, generosity, and was also a great listener when people talk. His sense of humor and wit was his greatest gift to all of us - his pranks were phenomenal and we had such belly laughs at his antics.

Jeff is survived by his mother, Jackie L. Augustus, Watertown; stepmother, Debbie Bubb, Watertown; daughter, Jasmine Draper, Endicott; grandson, Leroy Draper; two brothers, Raymond C. Bubb and Thomas Bubb and companion, Renee Bush, all of Watertown; aunt, Janet Lovelace and husband, Allen; two uncles, Thomas J. Augustus and wife, Linda Morrison, and Donald Corbett. His father passed on October 28, 2017.

Mr. Binion passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Robert is survived by his mother, Anne Binion of Lisbon, NY; seven siblings; Susan (Paul) Hytken, Bill (Kathy) Binion, Diane Binion, Shirley (Troy) Sample, Ted (Linda) Binion, Ed (Dawn) Binion, and Patrick (Ella) Binion; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Frank Binion and his brother John.

Robert was born on April 22, 1959, in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of Frank and Anne Moore Binion.

Robert enjoyed watching the ships on the St. Lawrence Seaway and spending time with his family.

Mrs. Thelma Marguerite Wilson (nee Tattrie)

NORWOOD-- Mrs. Thelma Marguerite Wilson (nee Tattrie), formerly of Norwood, NY, died peacefully in Largo, FL, surrounded by family and friends, at the age of 94, on January 2, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Wilson, as well as her parents, James D. and Ellen S. Tattrie, and her siblings: Bernice, Harold, Florence, Donald and Malcolm. Mrs. Wilson resided in the Clearwater/Largo area for nearly 30 years. For the past several years, she resided at Seasons of Largo, an assisted living residential community. Mrs. Wilson’s friend, Ms Trena Reynolds, lovingly assisted in her care at Seasons.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her three sons and their families: John (Barbara) of Allison Park, PA; Douglas (Paula) of Worcester, MA; and Stephen (Becky) of Fairport, NY. Surviving grandchildren and step-grandchildren include Andrew Wilson (Rebecca Helmer), Rachel Dalton (Andy and step-great grandson Jacob), Abigail Gardner (Ryan Morden), Ashley Vestergren (Daniel and great granddaughter Sloane), Abigail Wilson, Alexander Wilson, Eric Wilson and Jacqueline Smith (David) Mrs. Wilson is also survived by many cherished Canadian and American nieces, nephews and their families.

Thelma Tattrie was born December 12, 1924 in West Tatamagouche, Colchester County, Nova Scotia. Following graduation from high school and business school, she was employed at the Royal Bank of Canada in Truro, N.S., and Canadian National Railways in Montreal, Que. On January 21, 1950, she married John A. Wilson in Fort Covington, NY, Mr. Wilson’s hometown. The couple settled in Norwood, St. Lawrence Co, NY, where they raised their three sons. Mrs. Wilson became a US citizen in 1962.

Mrs. Wilson was an administrative secretary at Potsdam Central High School for several years, and during that time she entered the State University of New York (SUNY) in Potsdam, NY. She graduated with a B.A. in 1968 and immediately began a rewarding career as a high school English teacher at Norwood-Norfolk Central School (NNCS). Mrs. Wilson achieved her M.S. in Education from SUNY Potsdam in 1973. She retired from teaching in 1987. During her career she assisted with many student theatrical productions at NNCS, which gave her great joy. Mrs. Wilson moved to Florida in 1990. She was an active church member in both Norwood and Clearwater.

During her long and busy retirement, Mrs. Wilson travelled widely in the US and Canada to visit beloved family and friends, in particular her sister Bernice (Ontario) and her brother Harold and his wife Jeannine (Quebec/FL). She kept in regular touch with a wide circle of friends in Florida and upstate NY. Private graveside services will be held in Riverside Cemetery, Norwood and memorial remembrances in Thelma’s memory can be made to a favorite charity.
