Kay Margaret LaShomb Green

LOUISVILLE — Kay Margaret LaShomb Green, age 85 of Tucker Terrace, passed away at CVPH, Plattsburgh, NY on Friday April 12, 2019 with her loving family by her side. She was born on June 6, 1933 to the late Guy and Ethel (LaComb) LaShomb of Norfolk & Massena, NY. She was one of twelve siblings; Velma (Deruchia), Marie (Krusher), MaryJane, and Carl. She was predeceased by Robert, Harold, Donald, Virginia, Raymond, Lawrence, and Leo.

She married her high school sweetheart, Robert L. Green who predeceased her in 1995. She had seven children, Deborah A. Fent (Brian), Kathy E. Green (Shawna Cecot), Robert L. Green (Margaret), Lori Kay Curran (Patrick) and Michael J. Green. Also, Michael Robert and Ann Margaret whom where deceased in infancy. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren whom she adored; Marcie Kay, William, Angela, Katie, BreAnn MaryKay, Erinn, Megan, Kelli Kay and Colleen. In addition, ten great-grandchildren; Sadie, Emmalyn, Carmen, Sebastian, Gideon, Henry, Mason, Benjamin, Alexander and Madeliene Kay.

She would like to be remembered for the love she had for her husband Bob, her children and grandchildren whom she devoted her entire life to. She also loved all her beloved pets, past & present, Tara, Allie, Mia and Gracie Kay. She was known for her style, her love of life, music, and dancing. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with her neighbors and friends. Her friends were many; her love for them was sincere. She often mentioned how she loved her mother and missed her dearly, and her father was an early mentor for her in his namesake restaurant, Guy’s Diner. She waitressed at Guy’s and took great pride in her work accomplishments and pleasing customers, especially the children. She was an exceptional cook at home and loved to make meals and treats for her family; holidays were a warm and fun-filled time for family.

Her Catholic faith was at the core of her being and was very important to her. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at St. Lawrence Church, Willard Road, Louisville. Burial immediately to follow in the parish cemetery. Those attending are encouraged to wear a touch of pink, which was her favorite color, in her honor.

The family has entrusted arrangements to the care and direction of the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena.

RICHVILLE — Jane C. Rue, age 53, of Richville, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

There will be calling hours for Jane on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 10:00am-12:00pm at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Her funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00pm with Rev. Elizabeth Quick from the Gouverneur Methodist Church officiating. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Jane was born on June 30, 1965 in Gouverneur to Richard and Keitha (Reynolds) Yerdon. She graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1982. A marriage to Timothy Cousino and Patrick Rue Sr. both ended in divorce.

Jane worked in customer service for Community Bank. She had previously worked for DHL. Jane loved crafting and had her own crafting business called Deja Ru and CJ Custom Creation. She also enjoyed baking and cooking.

Surviving is her mother, Keitha Mullin; three sons, William Cousino, Cody Rue and Patrick Rue Jr.; four brothers, Peter Yerdon, John Yerdon, William Yerdon and Thomas Yerdon; a sister, Diane Murphy; three stepbrothers, Stephen Rosenbarker, Mark Rosenbarker and Michael Rosenbarker; two stepsisters, Karen Lancto and Valerie Daniels; two grandchildren, Willow Cousino and Brian Rue and several nieces and nephews.

Jane is predeceased by her father, Richard Yerdon, and a brother, Andrew Yerdon.

William Pinkney III

William Pinkney III, 94, of Granby, CT, beloved husband for 69 years of the late Lois (Mason) Pinkney, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2019, in Simsbury.

Born in Canton, OH on October 2, 1924, son of the late William Pinkney, Jr. and Dorothy (Cowles) Pinkney, he moved to Rowayton, CT with his family as a young boy and was a graduate of Greenwich High School, Class of 1942.

After high school, William continued his education for a brief time at the University of Connecticut before being drafted into the US Army in April of 1943. William served in the European Theater with the 4th Armored Division during World War II until his honorable discharge in March, 1946.

William returned to the University of Connecticut and completed his bachelor’s degree from the School of Business in 1950.

After graduating he entered the insurance industry. In 1958 he and Lois relocated to Watertown, NY where he became Vice President of The Agricultural Insurance Company. In Watertown William and Lois started their rare book business in 1964 which they maintained into their 90’s. He was a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America and was well-known throughout the rare book industry for his collection and his expertise. As a young boy, William (a.k.a “Pete” to family members) and his brother, Jack, had a printing press business and printed stationery, business cards, Christmas cards and their own neighborhood newspaper. William and Lois set up a printing/letterpress shop in the back of their garage, resulting in family members continuing the tradition of printing and selling to neighbors and friends. William and Lois owned a boat and spent time with their family, fishing, swimming and enjoying the St. Lawrence River, 1,000 Islands and Lake Ontario. He was a member of the Black River Valley Club and often did free book appraisals for the Flower Memorial Library to help with their fundraising.

In 1976 William and Lois returned to Connecticut after an eighteen-year absence. He worked as Vice President at Cigna Insurance Company in Hartford until he retired in the 1980’s. William and Lois traveled the country selling at antiquarian book shows for years on the East Coast, the West Coast and in between. Both were members of Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America for over 50 years. William and Lois enjoyed their annual two- week vacation on Wellesley Island, St. Lawrence River, 1,000 Islands NY with extended family members.

Proud of his early American heritage, William was a proven Mayflower Descendant of Passengers Richard Warren, James Chilton, Mrs. James Chilton and Mary Chilton. He leaves two sons, William Pinkney and his wife Bonnie of Flagler Beach, FL and Jett Mason Pinkney and his wife Judy of Coral Springs, FL; a daughter, Kristen Pinkney and her husband Thomas F. Bregani of Greenfield, NH; four grandchildren, Gigi Bennett and her husband John of Reston, VA, Adria Bregani and her husband Seth Blake of South Pasadena, CA, Olivia Bregani of West Peterborough, NH, and Thomas P. Bregani of Greenfield, NH; two nephews, John L. Pinkney and his wife Sheila of East Dummerston, VT, R. Jeffrey Roberts and his wife Barbara Hyle of Largo, FL; and two nieces, Cindy Pinkney Canavan of Liberty, ME and Alison Andrade and her husband Mitch of Washington, ME.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, John E. Pinkney; and sister, Anne Jones.

Burial with Military Honors will be private in the Rowayton Union Cemetery.

Jay F. Stone, 81, of Watertown passed away Friday, April 12, 2019, at Hospice of Jefferson County.

A memorial service will be held at St. Anthony’s Church on Wednesday, April 17, at 1 pm with Fr. Donald Robinson presiding. Burial will be at the family’s convenience. There are no calling hours and arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.

Jay was born in Watertown on September 18, 1937, son of John H. and Eunice Ball Stone. He received his bachelor’s degree from Canton College. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1958, and one of his stations was aboard the USS Layte. On August 21, 1961 he married Dawn Derrigo.

He was the owner and operator of Hyde-Stone Mechanical, Inc., Watertown. He was a current member of SUNY Canton Foundation, JCC Foundation, Plumbing, Heating & Piping Contractors of NNY, NNY Builders Exchange and on its Board of Directors, and the Watertown Rotary Club. Jay was a former member of the NNY Community Foundation and the Gov. Flower Monument Centennial Committee. He was a licensed plumber for the City of Watertown. For nine years he was Chairman of the YMCA Board in Milford, CT. For relaxation Jay enjoyed yard work.

Along with his wife, Dawn, he is survived by three sons, Cabot (Cathy), Chaumont, Thom, Watertown, and Christopher (Teresa), Watertown; daughter, Darcy (Peter) Burns, Adams Center; daughter-in-law, Mary Howard, Watertown; twelve grandchildren, Caitlin, Kristen, Jared, Zachary, Graham, Christopher, and Kendall Stone, Lydia (Kyle) Mack, Kate and Clare Brownell, and Emily and Claire Burns; brother, J. David (Mary), Adams; and several nieces, nephews, and one cousin.

Kenneth A. Hooson

Kenneth A. Hooson, age 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Saturday, April 12, 2019, at Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown.

Ken was born March 14th, 1927, in Clark Mills, NY. He was a proud WWII Veteran having served in the pacific theater for the United States Navy aboard LST 49. After completing his service, he returned to Clark Mills to operate a family-run service center. In the early 1950’s he purchased a small piece of land in Spicer Bay located outside of Clayton, NY, to store his boat after being unsatisfied with other storage options he found in the area. He would further develop and expand this into Spicer Marine Basin. Ken also opened other businesses such as a sweet shop on Riverside Drive and Captain Spicer’s Gallery in 1983.

Beyond his many business ventures, Ken was an avid outdoorsman and enthusiast. He had a passion for exploring the wilderness of the Adirondacks. He was also an avid shipwreck diver, boater, and pilot, receiving his pilot’s license and operating his own aircraft. Ken even had a short stint in stockcar racing and received a trophy for most rollovers of the season having wrecked and rolled 6 times. He is survived by his son Greg Hooson, Greg’s fiancé Susan Kelley and grandson Mike Hooson.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton on Tuesday, April 16, from 5-7 pm. The funeral service will be at Christ Episcopal Church on Wednesday, April 17, at 10 am with Rev. Lisa Busby, pastor, presiding. Burial in Kirkland Cemetery will be at the family’s convenience. With great sadness, we announce the passing of Margaret Jane Poirier, age 86, of Helena. Margaret passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, April 13, 2019, at St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services for Mrs. Poirier will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at St. Patrick’s Church in Brasher at 11:00AM with Rev. Mark Riley officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Brasher Falls, NY. Calling hours will be held from 5:00PM to 8:00PM on Monday, April 15, 2019, at Hammill Funeral Home, 653 NY-11C, Winthrop. Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, John; five children, Michael Poirier and his wife, RoseAnne, of Spencerport, NY, Anne Frary and her husband, Michael, of Ogdensburg, NY, David Poirier and his wife, Lynne, of Springfield, VA, Paul Poirier of Massena, NY and Brent Poirier and his wife, Christine, of Waddington, NY; twelve grandchildren, Marissa Allen and her husband, Tyler, Jessica Feor and her husband, Dave and Megan Poirier, Jon Frary and his wife, Emily, Chris Frary and his companion, Jillian Havens, Leanne Bouffard and her husband, Ryan, Michael Frary, Ryan Frary, Andy Poirier, Ryan Poirier, Tyler Poirier, and Samantha Poirier; seven great grandchildren, Grace and Mason Allen, Colin and Clayton Frary, Vera Bouffard, Jace Havens, and Felix Frary; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Dennis Foley; and one sister, Marie Keenan.

Margaret was born on November 17, 1932 in Malone, New York, the daughter of Herbert and Agatha Ward Foley. She graduated from Cornwall School of Nursing in Cornwall, Ontario. Margaret married John Poirier on September 16th 1957 at St Patrick’s Church in Hogansburg, New York with Msgr. Walter Funke presiding. Margaret worked in the operating room for over 35 years and later became the Operating Room Head Nurse at Massena Memorial Hospital. Margaret and her husband, John, owned and operated the Helena House for 25 years until 1995.

Margaret enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling around the United States, spending time in Florida, and enjoying her luck at the casino. St. Patrick’s Day was her favorite holiday and she took great pride starting the tradition of painting the Main Street green in Helena the night before the parade.

Jeanne M. Mooney

BOONVILLE — Jeanne M. Mooney, 83, of Kerwin Road, wife of Charles, passed away at her residence on Saturday, April 13, 2019, while surrounded by the loving care of her family and hospice.

Jeanne was born on November 17, 1935, on the East Road, Town of Leyden, a daughter of Leon A. and Julia DeVoe Brooks. She attended the East Road Country School, later graduating from Boonville Central School, with the Class of 1954. For fifteen years Jeanne was employed in the sanding and staining department of Ethan Allen Furniture Co., Boonville. Beginning in 1973, Jeanne was employed as a paper tester, first at Georgia Pacific Paper Co., Lyons Falls, retiring from Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper, in 1998.

She was married to David Jones, who passed away on June 28, 1966. In 1967, she moved to her present home on Kerwin Road.

On January 14, 1978, Jeanne was united in marriage with Charles D. Mooney, Jr. at St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden.

Mrs. Mooney was of the Catholic Faith; she and Charles attended St. Mary’s Church, Constableville, St. Mary’s Nativity Church, West Leyden and St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden.

Jeanne and Charles greatly enjoyed hunting, both in the northern and southern hunting zones. She was a member of Lewis County Sportsmen’s Club, Moose River Fish and Game Club, Lyons Falls and a member of Tannery Track Hunting Club. She also enjoyed woodworking, crafts and baking. In later years she found great interest and enjoyment from tracing her family genealogy.

In addition to her husband, Charles, Jeanne is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Nelson) Jones, Cold Brook and Julie Paquin, Poland, NY; two grandchildren, Kodie Paquin and Nathan Jones; sisters, Joanne Levensailor, Boonville, Linda (Cleon) Peebles, Anaheim, CA, Noreen (Richard) Stacy, Blossvale and Erma (Robert) Matuszczak, Port Leyden. She was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Russell Urtz and by brother and sister-in-law Leon and Margaret Brooks.

Jeanne possessed a very tender spot in her heart for all kinds of animals, especially her many feline and canine friends who were a part of her family.

Her Funeral will be Wednesday, at 9:30 A.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and at 10:30 A.M. at St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, Pastor will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Calling hours are Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Elaine Boshart

LOWVILLE — Elaine Boshart, formerly of Turin, died on Thursday evening, April 11th at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility.

Mrs. Boshart was born on January 12, 1934 in Lowville, NY. She is the daughter of the late Elwin and Florence Rowell of Glenfield. She graduated from General Martin Central School where she participated in many school activities: cheerleading, band, chorus, student council, etc. She also developed an early love of sports that became a large part of the rest of her life.

She married Robert R. Boshart of Turin, on May 10, 1954 at the Glenfield Methodist Church. After a stint in the army, she and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in Turin for many years. Robert died on Saturday, December 17, 2005.

Elaine was very involved with the Glenfield Methodist Church and taught Sunday School there for over 25 years. She had a real love for the children of the church and was very fond of them all through the rest of her life.

Elaine was known for always being active, and she and husband Bob loved square dancing. Elaine also later became an avid contra-dancer. She was a fan of downhill skiing and many other outdoor sports, including hiking, canoeing, cross country skiing, and white-water kayaking. She was a proud member of the Adirondack 46ers and had committed to qualifying for membership in record time. She participated in organized events like the Adirondack 90 Mile Canoe Classic, the Tughill Tourathon Cross Country race and many different triathlons and races. She was a lifeguard at the Rome YMCA and enjoyed participating in synchronized swimming there. Elaine loved to travel, explore the world and meet new people — no one she met was a stranger for very long.

She is survived by her two children and spouses, Sharon B. (Michael E.) Stewart of Turin; Michael R. (Anna M. Hikoyeda) Boshart of Seattle, WA; her grandsons, Derek (Wendy Markham) Stewart and Collin Stewart, great grandchildren, Jonathan and Kellie Stewart.

Elaine is predeceased by her daughter, Bethany Ann Yauchzy, and granddaughter Kelly Ann.

A “Celebration of her Life” service will be at the Glenfield United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. on April 27th, with cake and ice cream to follow. (She LOVED ice cream!) Burial will be at 1:00 P.M. at the Turin Cemetery.

David C. “Dee” Dunn

LOWVILLE — David C. “Dee” Dunn, 66, of the town of Watson died Saturday evening, April 13, 2019 at Lewis County General Hospital with his family at his side.

David, the son of the late Victor C. “Red” and Beatrice A. (LaQuay) Dunn, was born on April 21, 1952 in Lowville. He graduated from South Lewis High School in 1971. He married Marianne Hitchcock on December 27, 1986 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Bernard H. Christman officiating.

Dee worked in the kitchen of The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter in Turin. He retired from Lowville Farmers Co-op where he worked as a sales associate, delivery driver, and yardman for the building supplies department.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marianne and their daughter Heather; several nieces and nephews including Gavin Cherry; his five sisters: Charlotte (Warren) Levensailor Jr., Ella (Mark) Hawk, Cynthia Spann, Darlene Drake and Rose Devoe; and the Hitchcock clan including Amy (Sam) See, David (Catherine) Hitchcock, Cathy McNamara, Mark (Leah) Hitchcock, and LucyJo Tuttle.

David is predeceased by his two sisters, Jean M. Dunn, who died in infancy, and Aimee Salmon.

Dee was an avid bowler, competing at Lewis Lanes in many leagues. He enjoyed collecting knives. He was taught how to cook chicken from his father. He loved baking and sharing his cookies with everyone. His biggest joy was spending time with his daughter and being the best uncle to his nieces and nephews.

Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 16 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Sundquist Funeral Home. A funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 17 at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Ed Murphy, Rector officiating. Burial will be in Beaches Bridge Cemetery following the funeral.

Eleanor Dacey Percy

Eleanor Dacey Percy passed away on April 12, 2019. She was born in Endicott, NY on March 30, 1933, daughter of Robert F. and Frances R. Dacey. She was the first born of four children including Major General US Army Robert F. Dacey (deceased), Mary D. Malara (deceased), and Colonel US Army (Ret.) Richard P. Dacey and wife Peggy (Mason Neck, Virginia). She graduated from Holy Family School and Immaculate Heart Academy, going on to complete both Bachelor and Master degrees in Education at SUNY Potsdam.

She was married to the late Harold S. Percy Jr. in 1952 at Sacred Heart Church in Massena, NY. She is survived by five children, Stephen L. Percy (Portland, OR), Scott M. Percy and wife Mary Ellen Smith (Oakland, CA), Martha L. Percy-Meade and husband James Meade (Phoenix, NY), Gary D. Percy and wife Wen-Ying Chen (San Ramon, CA), and Katherine A. Percy (Oakland, CA), five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, a brother, nephews and nieces.

Eleanor was dedicated to education and learning, devoting 14 years to teaching at St. Patrick’s School, followed by 25 years at Immaculate Heart Central High School where she served as Chair of the English Department. She was also active for many years as an officer of the family’s retail business, Smith & Percy, Inc., located in downtown Watertown, and later as a partner in Percy Antiques. Gardening was a great passion for her, as well as traveling, cooking, and reading.

She has been a lifelong member of Holy Family Church. Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Wednesday, April 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Thursday, April 18, at 11 am with Fr. Steven Murray presiding followed by burial in Brookside Cemetery.

Mr. Vaughn F. Ashlaw, 90, formerly from Harrisville and Lake Bonaparte, N.Y., with family at his side, passed away on Monday April 8, 2019 at Riverside Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Castleton N.Y..

Born in Hopkinton, N.Y., the youngest child of Joseph Ashlaw & Alphozin Gokey Ashlaw, he attended schools in St. Regis Falls.

A marriage to Betty Clement on October 11, 1947 eventually ended in divorce. He later married Marion Stevens on June 21, 1978.

He served in the United States Navy Reserve from 1951 to 1954 traveling to many foreign countries.

He worked at the St. Regis Paper Company in Deferiet, N.Y. in the Super Calender Department for many years, eventually becoming supervisor. After retirement from St. Regis, he worked for several more years as a caretaker at Harris Courts in Harrisville, N.Y..

He bought property on the North Shore of Lake Bonaparte in the early 1960’s and built a summer cottage. Every summer spent there involved improvements and the addition of docks, boat houses, ski jumps, decks, garage and a workshop and soon became his permanent residence.

Mr. Ashlaws’ love of Harley Davidson motorcycles actually led him to racing them in his early years and he remained riding into his 80’s. He enjoyed water skiing and dare devil ski jumping. He loved snowmobiling and was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life and was proficient with bow and arrow as well as various firearms.

He was predeceased in death by his parents, brothers Wilfrid and Vernon, and sisters Edna Jones and Rosella Lewis.

He leaves behind his wife, Marion (Carthage), two daughters, Roxanne O’Connor (Carthage) and Kim and George Rafferty (Troy), three stepchildren, Randy Stevens (Great Bend), Roy Stevens (Texas) and Lisa Collier (Georgia). Six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren., and several nephews and nieces.

In accordance with his wishes, he donated his body to science for medical research into vascular diseases.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1pm on Saturday July 13, 2019 at The United Methodist Church in Harrisville, New York, with a small luncheon to follow.

GOUVERNEUR – Joyce Mae Stammer, age 88, of Gouverneur, passed away surrounded by her loving family on April 14, 2019 at the Carthage Center Nursing Home where she has resided for two years.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. immediately followed by her funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the East Riverside Cemetery.

Joyce was born on May 13, 1930 in Macomb. She was one of 16 children to the late Alvin and Bertha (Dane) Washburn. She attended Gouverneur Central School. Joyce married Donald J. Stammer on April 6, 1957 at the Macomb Wesleyan parsonage officiated by Rev. James Keyser. Joyce and Donald owned and operated the Laurellea Farm in Gouverneur for many years.

Joyce was an avid gardener and loved to feed and watch her birds. She enjoyed baking for her grandchildren, quilting and crafting, and attending the Macomb Community Church events. Joyce was a member of the former E.J. Noble Hospital Auxiliary.

Her survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Michael Backovski of Waynesboro, VA and Deborah and Steven Horn of Abbottstown, PA; brothers, Arthur, Charles (Donna) and Richard (Liz); and sisters, Sarah (Ford) Reynolds, Ada (Donald) Bayne, Mary (Harold) Bresett, Anna Washburn, Leona “Skipper” Jones and Bettie Rook. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Andrew, Allison, and Katie Backovski, Steven Horn Jr, Christina Wilson and Cassandra Horn; and a great-grandson, Henry Horn.

She is predeceased by her husband, Donald; brothers, James and Sylvester Washburn; and sisters, Nilah Sias, June LaVack, Joanne Washburn and Eleanor Solar.

Dorothy M. Cole, 85, of Potsdam, New York peacefully passed away Saturday afternoon, April 13, 2019 at United Helpers Maplewood Healthcare Center in Canton, New York.

Dorothy was born June 27, 1933 in Theresa, New York the daughter of the late Russell and Ruth (Eddy) Pratt. She attended and graduated from Theresa High School and continued her education at Potsdam State College, where she achieved her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in only 3 years. It was while in college, she met her future husband, Robert Cole. They married on July 30, 1955 in Theresa.

Dorothy started her teaching career after graduation as a kindergarten teacher in Nedrow, south of Syracuse. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area, where they lived for many years until returning to Potsdam. She continued her teaching at Madrid-Waddington Central School as a kindergarten teacher until her retirement. Dorothy was an active member of the Potsdam United Methodist Church and was also an Election Inspector for many years. She enjoyed quilting and figure skating, was an avid gardener, and had a great joy for traveling. Throughout her life Dorothy remained active with many organizations, college, and community events in Potsdam. Her generosity to the community will be greatly missed.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert; her children and their spouses, Patricia and Mark Lord of Sylva, North Carolina; Karen and Mitchell Pruzansky of Coral Springs, Florida; and Larry Cole of Lake Forest, California; her grandchildren, Joshua and Zair Lord, Cassandra Lord, Rita and Cody Hiatt, and Sarah Pruzansky; and great grandchildren, Juniper and Sophie.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Robert Pratt.

A private service is planned with burial in Bayside Cemetery, Potsdam, New York.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Potsdam Humane Society.

Joshua A. Beach, 24, Rt 3, Watertown, passed away Sunday April 14th, 2019 at his home after a three-year battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma.

Calling hours are Thursday, April 18th from 1 pm – 3 pm and 5 pm – 7 pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown.

Joshua is survived by his parents, Tim and Dawn, Watertown; his brothers and sisters, Timothy J. and Nicole M. Beach, both of Dover, PA, Lee Anthony Beach, Watertown, Tiffany M. and Hunter D. Beach, both of Sackets Harbor; his maternal grandmother, Esther Winnett, Adams Center; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, and his beloved pets, Brutus, Jackson and Azazel. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Jack and Joan Beach, his great grandmother Marjorie Brown, an uncle Jack Beach, Jr., and a nephew Gage Beach at 3 months old.

Josh was born in Watertown, January 15, 1995, a son to Timothy and Dawn Winnett Beach. He was a 2013 graduated of Sackets Harbor High School where he played basketball and baseball. He attended Jefferson Community College in the computer technology department and worked with the IT department at the college until becoming ill.

Joshua was an avid video game player. He enjoyed family gatherings, Chinese food, four wheeling and dirt biking, computer technology and hanging with his friends.

Joshua’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Robert and Jennifer Stevens for everything they have done for the family from the very beginning and throughout his illness.

BERLIN, NY – Brenda Lou Dority Gutermuth, 66, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2019 at her home after a long illness with her husband Craig at her side.

Born in Gouverneur, NY on June 7, 1952, she was the daughter of the late John Levi and Ruby Catherine Flight Dority. Brenda was raised in Pope Mills, NY and was educated in the Morristown Central School District. She later attended Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg, NY.

Following her marriage on July 3, 1971, she moved to Berlin, NY. She was employed by W.J. Cowee, Inc, in Berlin for a brief time and then raised her family and was a homemaker.

She enjoyed gardening and reading and spending time with her family.

She is the beloved wife of 47 years of Craig S. Gutermuth; loving mother of Shawn S. (Brea Morawski) Gutermuth and Amber (Christopher) Oswald; adored grandmother of Shawn S. Gutermuth, Jr., Lilith Gutermuth and Lindsey Oswald; dear sister of Bill (Rhonda) Dority, Stephen (Dianna) Dority, Linda (Tom) Love, Sheila (Richard) Beaulieu, Barbara (Jim Alborn) Wormuth and the late Jack and Rudy Dority. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 12 noon at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, NY. Interment will follow in the Berlin Community Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Saturday prior to the service from 10 am-12 noon.

Mr. Jeffrey “Jeep” James age 56 of Parishville, NY passed away after a long battle with cancer on April 13th at his residence in the town of Parishville with friends and family by his side, including Lynne Jackman who was there to help comfort him in his final hours.

Funeral services for Jeff will be at the Amvets in Parishville on Saturday, April 20th at 11am with celebrant Reverend Kenneth Hammel. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetary, also in Parishville. Friends and family may call at Garner Funeral Services on Friday, April 19th from 2pm – 7pm. Contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

Jeff was born on July 11, 1962 in Potsdam, NY to Donald R. James and Patricia A. Green. He was a graduate of Potsdam High School, Class of 1981. He graduated Mohawk Community College with a degree in Art in 1984. After graduating, he lived in Dobbs Ferry where he learned screen printing and also paved stone. On February 14, 1998, he married Jane M. Hayes. He was the current owner of Special Tee Printing in Potsdam. Early in his career, he helped lay the bricks in Lake Placid where the Olympic Torch was lit.

Jeff was an active guy who greatly loved his Jeep. He enjoyed playing hockey, and was a member of several different community teams including Ton’s Sunday Night Hockey, Norfolk Hockey League (NHL) Part Timers, and Thursday Night Hockey. Jeff was also a referee of high school and college soccer, high school hockey, and high school lacrosse.

Jeff did not enjoy dressing up so his wish was that people wear hockey jerseys to his funeral. Please join his family in this great tribute to him.

Immediately following burial service on Saturday, April 20th, there will be a Celebration of Life at the Parishville Amvets.
