He passed away on December 23, 2009./ppBetty worked as the Head of Circulation for the Jamestown Port Journal, was a co-owner of Joe’s Texaco Gas Station in Alexandria Bay and was a Hostess for many years at Bonnie Castle Resort and Pine Tree Resort. She was a member of the Clayton Bowling League, the Reformed Church of the 1000 Isles, and the Alexandria Bay Senior Citizens./ppBetty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Gayle Truesdell, and her daughter Jo Leta Gruzesky, all of Alexandria Bay, three grandchildren, Christopher and Bobby Joe Williams and Dustin Truesdell. Franciscus “Frank” Marinus Bruyns
pFranciscus “Frank” Marinus Bruyns, 94, of Leesburg, FL, passed away September 15, 2016. He was born in Beverwijk, Holland to Marinus Franciscus and Geertruida Bruyns. Frank and his family moved to Canada when he was 3. As a young man he entered the Canadian Air Force in 1942 and excelled to Lieutenant. As an officer in WWII he had completed numerous missions and proven himself to be an outstanding pilot and captain, flying over 30 fights at night into enemy territory and flew back safely from battles in Essen, Stettin, Bochum and Cologne. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He obtained many distinguished awards for his bravery, one being the “Flying Cross”. After the war Frank returned to Canada where his first wife Marjorie Wert ran a dairy farm. Frank and family moved to Evans Mills N.Y. in 1960 and continued farming. After the death of Marjorie in 1983 Frank wed his second wife June Fletcher in 1985 and moved to Leesburg Fla. Frank is Pre-ceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Wert; Parents, Marinus Franciscus and Geetruida Bruyns; and sister, Mariana Wert. He is survived by his wife, June M. Bruyns; sons, Bob of Ontario, Canada, Barry (Rose) of Watertown, New York and Fred (Mary) of Salem, Oregon; daughters, Faye “Carol” Babock of Alexandria Bay, NY, and Corrinne Watts of Brockville- Ontario, Canada; step children, Connie (Richard) Dack, Debbie (Terry) Side of Redwood, NY, Kathy Allen of Plessis, NY and Kelly Towles of Kissimmee, FL; 9 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren,13 great grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren. Nephews, Rev. Peter Cazaly, Andrew (Patsy) Wert, and Frank (Doris) Wert, all of Canada; brothers in law Gerald (Sue) Fletcher of Henderson, NY, Richard (Sandy) of Lacona, NY; sister in law Nancy Fletcher of Oswego, NY. Larry is survived by his six children, Kathleen and Randy Cook, Clare; Bonnie and Scott Keller, Florida; Richard and his companion Tina Nesbit, North Carolina; Rodney and Barbara Chase, Heuvelton; Liza and Robert Baxter, Massena and Timothy and his companion Ramona Penland, North Carolina. Larry is also survived by several grand and great-grandchildren, two brothers, Marlo Chase, Hermon and Marcell Chase, East Cazenovia as well as several nieces and nephews. Larry was pre-deceased by his wife, a son, Darren, a brother Sanford Chase and two sisters, Pauline Holman and Blanche Watson./ppBorn in Pierrepont, NY on September 18, 1934 a son to the late Charles B. and Alice Irish Chase, Larry married Mildred Hammond on February 21, 1958. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957 and served for a year. In a letter wrote home, Larry said “I would not take anything in the world for what I have learned in here but when I get out of here they will have a hell of a time getting me back”. Larry was later recalled back in 1961 to serve again in the U.S. Army. Larry enjoyed his career, as he worked for the Local 278 Carpenters and Joiners Union for many years. In 1975 she married Donald Edgar at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brasher Falls. Donald passed away in 1981. On November 28, 1985 she married Gilbert Plourde, the love of her life. They were inseparable until Gill’s death on March 26, 2016./ppMary held a variety of jobs. She was a nurse’s aide at Highland Nursing Home and Valhaven. She also worked as a cook at Murphy’s Restaurant, Potsdam College and St. Regis Nursing Home. Mary also loved traveling, camping and fishing whenever possible. She was a great gardener having several beautiful flower beds and shrubs. pNelson Loyd Young, 94, a longtime resident of Canal St. passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016, at Lewis County General Hospital, after a short illness./ppHe was born on River St. Lowville, on August 15, 1922, a son of Clinton Jasbor and Anne LaRock Young. Nelson grew up in the Martinsburg and Lowville area receiving his education at East Martinsburg School, and Glenfield, before completing his education at Lowville Academy & Central School. /ppIn 1941, Mr. Young entered the U.S. Army, serving his country stateside, before serving in the European Theater of WW II, including with Battle of the Bulge in 1944-45. After his honorable discharge he returned to Port Leyden, settling on Canal St./ppOn June 20, 1942, Nelson was united in marriage with Helen F. Burch, at St. Martin’s Church Rectory, Port Leyden. Mrs. Young, an assistant cashier at Lyons Falls Bank, passed away on January 13, 2004./ppFollowing WW II, Mr. Young established Nelson Young New and Used Automobile Dealership on Rt. 12, Port Leyden. He was very generous with people and greatly enjoyed operating this business until retiring in 2007. During this time he drove school bus for Port Leyden Central School, worked at Lyons Falls GLF, sold and moved furniture, and owned and operated a gas station in Port Leyden./ppMr. Young was a member of the Lowville V.F.W. and he enjoyed dancing, socializing, mowing lawns, plowing snow and watching NY Yankee Baseball games./ppHe is survived by one brother, Ronald Young and his wife, both of Lowville, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Ray, Gerald and Richard. On July 14, 1949 he was married to Betty Elizabeth Phillips at St. Andrew’s Church in Norwood. He worked for years for Perras Excavating in Massena. He was a member of the Local 545 Operating Engineers. /ppHe was a member of St. Andrew’s Church, the Pony Puller’s Association, the VFW in Potsdam and he was a member of the Hannawa Falls Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his hunting dogs, horses and CB’s were his past time. He was known to all as the “Horse Trade.” He was a loving and caring husband and an outstanding father and friend to many. He will be missed by all./p

Dickie Cook. Kevin was employed for 30 years at Productions Unlimited in Watertown, where he worked in the cafeteria. He was a very social person, who made friends easily. He was active with the DPAO for many years and was a member of their bowling league; he participated in the Special Olympics as a swimmer. He also enjoyed the time he spent at camp on the Black River, boating and frogging. Kevin was a great supporter of Carthage Central School Athletics, especially Lacrosse, Football and Basketball. Kevin was also a traveler, who had visited many places; and was a great fan of Elvis Presley, even taking a trip to Graceland./ppKevin is survived by his mother, Dolores, at home, as well as his sister and her husband, Lynette & Marty Tokos of Lorraine, NY, his two nieces and their husbands; Bianca & Artie Phillips, Ellisburg and Chaya & Martin Charles, Central Square. She graduated from Watertown High School and for a time was a waitress at Howard Johnson’s Restaurant, Watertown. It was at the restaurant she met George E. Seaver of Cape Vincent and the couple got married July 21, 1966. They lived in Adams, Watertown, Plattsburgh and in 1980 moved to Adams Center. Mr. Seaver died November 3, 1996./ppMrs. Seaver worked for the NYSDEC at Brownville and later for NYSDOT in Adams retiring in 2003. She was a former member of the Adams Center Fire Dept.’s Auxiliary and a former member of the Watertown Eagles Club./ppShe survived by a daughter and her husband, Laurie and Dee Rogers, Adams Center; a son Scott A.
