Miller, 83, formerly of West Hoard St., Watertown, passed October 8, 2016 at the Country Manor Nursing & Rehab Center in Carthage where she had been a resident since June 29, 2016./ppCalling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 12 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown./ppThe funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 13 at the funeral home. Following the funeral service a luncheon will be held at the Life Church of the Nazarene on Thompson Blvd. in Watertown./ppA private burial will be held at the Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family./ppBorn on August 1, 1933 in Watertown, daughter of Perley L. and Helen (Porter) Hatch, she graduated from Evans Mills High School./ppShe married Frederick E. Miller on October 16, 1954 at the Sacred Heart Church./ppShe worked at National Bank as a bookkeeper, became a homemaker, and raised her children and cared for her husband. She began volunteering for the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart Church and then became a full time secretary and bookkeeper from 1969 to 1998. Following her retirement she continued to volunteer as a cook for the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart./ppShe is a former member of the Legion of Mary Auxiliary at Sacred Heart, helped with Bingo for several years, and was the money manager and very active with the Sacred Heart Festival./ppAmong her survivors are two daughters and their husbands, Cynthia A. and Frederick J. Goslin, Watertown, Karen S. and Lloyd D. Rickard, Watertown; 5 grandchildren, Stephen (Sarah) Bice Jr., Jason (Jennifer) Bice, Travis Bice, Jami (Arturo)Ramirez, Brad Rickard and his fiancé Nichole; two step granddaughters, Carrie Hall and Stephani (Brian) Ciezi; 18 great grandchildren and one great grandchild, Peyton Marie, on the way; three sisters and two brothers in law, Irene LaFountaine, Watertown, Vivian and Richard Curtis, Brownville, Linda and Gervin Friedrich, Watertown; several nieces and nephews./ppHer husband, Frederick Miller died September 25, 1968, a brother, Ronald Hatch and three grandsons also passed before her./ppDonations may be made to the SPCA/ppOnline condolences may be made at www.hartandbruce.com/p

Barry, 82, of Baldwinsville (formerly of Watertown, NY), beloved husband of Jean Barry, died October 8, 2016. /ppBorn on August 18, 1934, in Lewiston, ME, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Honora (Burns) Barry. /ppRich grew up in Hartford, CT, attended UConn, Suffolk University in Boston MA, and earned his Master’s Degree at Boston University. After serving two years in Korea with the USArmy 1st Cavalry, Rich began a teaching career, retiring from the Watertown School District after 30 years. He was a leader in local youth baseball, scouts and 4-H Camp Wabasso. His interests included golf, tennis, bird watching, gardening, and family history research. Rich and Jean enjoyed many years at their winter home at Burnt Store Colony, Punta Gorda, FL. As caregiver, Rich lovingly cared for his wife who has been ill for 20 years. /ppRich is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Barry; two sons, Richard (Cheryl) Barry of N. Syracuse, Dirk (Maggie) Barry of South Windsor, CT, and by two daughters, Annemarie B. Landon and Elaine B. Tyler of Baldwinsville; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; brother Jack Barry of West Hartford, CT. He was predeceased by a brother Robert, and two sisters, Dorothy Shuler and Joan Goodwin./ppA Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 Wednesday, October 12, at St. Mary’s Church, Baldwinsville. pMassena: James H. Casey, 82, of Whalen Road, Massena, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Massena Memorial Hospital. Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 11:00 am at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Tojo Chacko officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Massena./ppJames was born on March 18, 1934 in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of the late Gerald and Pauline (Myre) Casey. He attended school in Ogdensburg, graduating from OFA in 1952. James then attended Canton ATC where he finished with an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Technology. In 1954, James enlisted into the US Army where he served during the Korean Conflict for a two year period. Upon returning home, he began working at GE in research and development in Schenectady, NY for a couple years. He then returned to his hometown of Ogdensburg and began working for NY Telephone as a switchman. James married Margaret “Peggy” Post on October 1, 1960 at St. Mary’s Church in Massena with Rev. Lawrence Cotter officiating. In 1961, James and his wife relocated to Herkimer, NY where he worked for NY Telephone until his retirement in 1994. Upon retiring, James and Peggy moved to Massena, NY./ppThroughout his working career, James was a very active member of CWA (Communication Workers of America) Union where he was the Steward. During the time he spent in Ogdensburg, James was active in the Lions Club. He was also a Cub Scout Leader for many years in Herkimer. For over 10 years he was involved with the School Board, holding the position of President for two terms. In his retirement, James was active in the Lake St. Lawrence Yacht Club for 20 years./ppJames is survived by his loving wife, Margaret “Peggy” of 56 years; three children, Patrick and wife Tracy Casey, Daniel and wife Julie Casey, Maureen and husband Patrick Broderick, all of Massena; eight grandchildren, Erin, Shannon and Sean Casey, Annie, Dan and Megan Casey, Brendan and Molly Broderick; a brother, Thomas and wife Barbie of Tennessee and many nieces and nephews. She graduated from Edwards Central School in 1949. On October 9, 1951, she married Louis Edgar Zaluski. Jean was a member of the Edwards Methodist church./ppJean was a caring mother and wife, a homemaker who took great pride in her home and flower gardens. She loved animals, especially her Dachshund and Yorkshire Terriers./ppSurviving besides her husband, Louis, of Edwards, are a son, Steven L. (Kathy) Zaluski, of Adams Center, NY and their children, Heather (Daniel) Tarzia, of Watertown, NY, Sarah (Ehimika) Ohiorhenuan, of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter, Chris A. (Ralph) Smith, of Cazenovia, NY and their children, Christopher (Erin), of Randolph, NJ and Scott (Jennifer) Smith, of Huntersville, NC; four great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Whitmarsh, of Edwards, a sister, Sally (Salvatore) Capone, of Star Lake, NY, and a sister-in-law Constance Zaluski Desmond, of Lawrenceville, NJ; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins./ppThe family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and concern that their mother received from the dedicated staff of the eighth floor at the Samaritan Keep Home./ppThere will be no calling hours or funeral service. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1952. He married Jean Easter on January 15, 1955 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Church in Ogdensburg with Rev. Floyd Brown officiating. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army. He belonged to the Carpenters Local in Watertown. He worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway Project, the new SUNY Canton Campus and the OFA Dome before he started his own contracting business./ppHe was a member of the Knights of Columbus. pCOPENHAGEN – Francis W. “Bill” Sheehan, 86, 2048 Doran Rd., died early Monday morning, October 10, 2016 at the Lewis County Hospital in Lowville./ppBorn on March 22, 1930 in Little Falls, the son of Francis J. & Grace R. Miller Sheehan. He attended school in Little Falls, Oneonta and Athol Springs, NY./ppHe married Edith L. Congdon on April 22, 1950 in Fort Plain, NY and then moved to Copenhagen. He worked for his father at the Hotel Davenport, buying his truck in 1953 and drew milk until 1961. He was a former Chief of the Copenhagen Fire Department and a former Lewis County Sheriff’s Deputy in the Village of Copenhagen. He worked for the Town of Denmark plowing snow, then for Longway Construction until going to work for Buckley Motor Freight, DL Reed Trucking, Northern Haulers and WT Burns. He then bought the Hotel Davenport from his father and ran it for 30 years until selling it to his daughter and her husband, Carol & George Harris./ppBill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edith, his children Carol (George) Harris, Nancy (Gary) Wilton, Wanda (Gary) Snyder, Francis A. “Al” (Shelia) Sheehan, Tina (Tim) Thompson and Bruce P. Sheehan. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren./ppHe is predeceased by his parents, his daughter, Billie Jo Sheehan and his brother, Timothy D. pCOLTON— Graveside services for Toby Jo Fisher, a resident of 398 St. Highway 68, Colton, will be held privately in the Long Lake Cemetery. Toby passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the age of 48 after a lengthy illness. Toby is survived by his three beloved daughters, Amanda Castillo, Melissa Zuniga and Kristen Sharpe; his six beautiful grandchildren; his parents, Jerry and Virginia “Jeannie” Fisher, Colton; a brother Justin Fisher, Parishville; two sisters, Felicia Bonno, Colton and Heather Fisher, Canton, as well as several nieces and nephews. /ppBorn in Ogdensburg, NY on February 27, 1968, Toby graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School in 1986. He attended college and received his Associates Degree. Toby then joined the Bricklayers Local Union 81 and worked alongside of his father. He later moved to New Mexico and became a self-employed contractor, where he specialized in intricate woodworking and masonry until his time of illness in 2006 when he moved back home to be with family. Toby loved nothing more than his children and grandchildren and spending time with his beloved dog, Maggie Mae. Memorial Donations in Toby’s memory can be made to a local Alzheimer’s Association. He worked in his early years at Williamson’s Mink Farm in Natural Bridge, he owned Dave’s Cleaning Service (D.C.S.) and he was the supervisor for the Town of Wilna Landfill before he retired. She was very proud of all of her 17 grandchildren. She is survived by a sister, Mary Bailey of Potsdam, NY and her brother, Daniel Collins of Washington, DC and several nieces and nephews. /ppMrs. Snell was predeceased by 2 brothers, James and John Collins, and two sisters, her twin, Margaret Collins and Jane Collins. /ppMartha was born on October 19th, 1933 in Potsdam, NY to the late Daniel and Katherine Mahoney Collins. She married John Snell Sr. on October 29, 1966 in Potsdam, NY at St. Mary’s Church. Martha received her Bachelor’s as well as her Master’s Degree in Education from New York State Teacher’s College in Potsdam. She was an elementary school teacher in Potsdam and then in Syracuse for several years prior to becoming a homemaker. Martha was very active in St. Patrick’s Church in Colton as well as St. Mark’s parish in Boynton Beach. /ppMemorial contributions can be made in Martha’s memory to St. Patrick’s Church, Colton, NY or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
