pWalter Howard Fiedler, devoted husband, father, grandfather & friend, age 96, of 77 Mt. Pisgah Lane, Saranac Lake, died Thursday, February 04, 2016 at home with his family by his side. /ppBorn in Yonkers, New York on June 13, 1919, he was the son of Walter A. and Anna Marie (Diemel) Fiedler. Walter married Anne Regan on August 18, 1956 at the Holy Cross Church, Hopkinton, NY. /ppWalter is a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II as an officer in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. Following the war Walter attended Clarkson University School of Engineering on the G.I. Bill. He graduated with honors and was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. Upon graduation he joined Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, as a Mechanical Engineer. Walter resided in Glastonbury, CT with his wife Anne, raising their three daughters. In 1988, following retirement, Walter and Anne moved to Saranac Lake. Walt loved fixing cars, skiing, tennis, golf and motorcycles. He especially loved airplanes and airplane engines, and was an active member of the Saranac Lake Free Library and Adirondack Mountain Club./ppHe is survived by his wife of sixty years, Anne Regan Fiedler of Saranac Lake, three daughters Mary E. Fiedler of Collinsville, CT, Margaux A. Plourde of Bloomfield, CT, Christine M. (Clayton M.) Felker of San Antonio, TX, and six grandchildren; Jason, Miranda, Kelsey, Delaney, Linnea and Aidan. Donald J. Rainville
pMr. Donald J. Rainville passed away on February 6 at the age of 88 at his home in Plattsburgh, NY. Mr. Rainville taught public school for 37 years in Black River and at Carthage Central schools Donald served in the US Army during WW2 in the Pacific theater. He set up summer youth programs in Black River, coached youth hockey in Watertown, and hosted science programs on WWNY TV in the late 1950’s. He was known for his exceptional vegetable garden stand at his home in Black River. Don is survived by his wife of 66 years Gisèle (from Iberville, Quebec), his sister Erma, his sons Michel, David, and Donald, and eleven grandchildren. There will be a memorial mass at the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart at 4pm on Thursday, Feb 11./p

She was 46 years old./ppBorn in Watertown October 27, 1969, Sue was a daughter to David A. and Bonnie L. (Pinkerton) Sovie. Educated in the Watertown City School District, Sue was a member of the class of 1987. She would go on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Hartwick College in 1991, and her Juris Doctorate degree in Law from Syracuse University in 1994, graduating Cum Laude. Following graduation, Sue was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1995./ppSue’s passion was helping others, and she was able to exercise this throughout her career as an attorney. In her field, Sue was recognized as a unbiased professional, winning her the admiration and respect of not only her colleagues, but those whom she represented. She operated out of the law office which she founded, Sovie Law Firm, initially partnering with Eric Swartz, and later with Justin Brotherton./ppAlthough versed in many aspects of the law, Sue’s primary focus was family law. In 1996, she was nominated by retiring Family Court Judge Richard V. Hunt to be the county’s Attorneys for Children program liaison for the state’s Fourth Department, a volunteer position she continued to hold until her death, advising and assisting about 35 attorneys representing children. In 1998, Sue received the Fourth Department’s Michael F. Dillon Law Guardian Award for outstanding representation, making her the only attorney in Jefferson County ever to receive this award./ppExtremely active in her community, Sue was a founding board member and former board chairwoman of the county’s Big Brothers / Big Sisters program, a member of the state’s Fifth Judicial District’s attorney grievance committee, and a board member of the state’s Office of Indigent Legal Services; amongst various other committees. /ppIn her personal time, Sue enjoyed dining with her many friends, and adding to her extensive PEZ collection. She was also fond of Diet Coke./pp Surviving besides her mother, Bonnie, are her brother and sister-in-law, David and Atsuko Sovie of Japan; 3 cousins, Holly, Grace, and Miranda Gilbert; a “sister”, Creedence, and her family; and a dear friend, Anthony “Tony” Augliano, of Watertown. pCharles A. Barton entered the Church Eternal on Thursday February 4, 2016./ppHe was born on February 25, 1923 in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of the late G. Albert and Ruth St. Denny Barton./ppChuck was a graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy and Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. World War II found him in the US Navy Air Force, where he trained women to work as aviation mechanics. He worked for Cleveland Container, Babcock and Wilcox and in 1959 was hired by Welch Grape Juice Company where he spent the remainder of his career, retiring in 1985. While with Welch, he managed plants in Westfield and Brocton NY, Springdale AR and North East PA./ppChuck was involved in several community organizations over the years, including the founding of the Board of Directors and past president of the North East Health Care Center. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of North East, where he served as an Elder, trustee and sang in the choir. After moving to Conrad House of Brevellier Village in Harborcreek, he served as a volunteer at Ball Pavilion and also as president of the residents’ association at Conrad. Chuck was a former member of Lakeview Country Club and Green Meadows Golf Course. His hobbies were golf, woodworking, and painting./ppHe married Florence (Judy) Harvey in 1946, who passed away in 2010 after 63 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Ruth Barton./ppChuck is survived by daughters, Leslie Hamilton and her husband Gregg of Liverpool, NY, Barbara Zorzie and her husband Paul of North East; grandchildren, Kira Marchitto (Matt) of Clay, NY, Brian Hamilton (Heather) of Northampton, PA, Chris Zorzie of Lexington, KY, Mark Zorzie (Allison Shaw) of Buffalo, NY, and Leila Zorzie of Pittsburgh, PA; great-grandchildren, Kyleigh and Brandon Marchitto, James, Colin and Paige Hamilton. pOctober 30, 2012, The Lord blessed our family with Kayden Lee Foote, and on February 9, 2016, He called him home. Heaven’s gain was our loss. /ppKayden spent his journey in life defying odds and though his little body was weak from the moment he was born, he possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible obstacles. His fighting spirit amazed and inspired. His life was too short for many, but those who were touched by him understand that the quality of his existence far exceeded the quantity of his time on earth. /ppAlthough Kayden could not use his words to express his feelings, his big brown eyes filled our hearts with his inconceivable love every day. /ppHis footprints were small, but left an enormous imprint on our hearts.
