pLOWVILLE - Dorothy E. Arthur, 98, died Thursday morning, June 9th at the Pines of Glens Falls, in Glens Falls, New York. /ppBorn December 28, 1917 in the town of Martinsburg, New York, Dorothy was the daughter of William and Anna Hirschey Jones. Dorothy graduated from Lowville Academy in 1935. /ppShe married James E. Arthur on Dec. 18, 1942. While her husband was overseas during World War II, she worked as a telephone operator in Lowville. After the war they moved to Oswego, N.Y. and then to Watertown, N.Y where they spent many years. Mr. Arthur passed away in 1973. /ppDorothy moved to Glens Falls in 1976 where she was employed by O’Sullivan’s Motel as a housekeeper until 1982 when she took at position at The Hyde Collection of Glens Falls as gift shop manager. A position she held until 1997 when she retired. /ppDorothy enjoyed reading, Yankees baseball, Syracuse basketball and spending time with her grandchildren./ppSurviving are her children, Philip Arthur and his wife Barbara of Glens Falls, Douglas Arthur and his wife Camilla of Hamlin and Sally Daniels and her husband Gary of Pennellville. She is also survived by six grandsons, David, Jonathan, Colin and Owen Arthur and Steven and Sean Koes, and eight great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Avery and Matthew Koes, Cloudia, Skylar, Jackson, Luke and Ileana Arthur and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James, her sister Margaret Hoch, her brothers Robert, Harold and Richard Jones brother-in-law Floyd Hoch, and sisters in law Frieda, Neva, and Barbara Jones./ppA private family graveside service will be held Monday, June 13 at Lowville Rural Cemetery with Rev. David Herrmann officiating.
