pReverend De-Wayne R. Benney 86, of Chaumont, died WednesdayAugust 31st, at the Samaritan Medical Center surrounded by his family./ppBorn April 28th 1930 in Chaumont, the son of Floyd and Hazel Benney, He marriedLillian E. Love on August 11th 1950, in Brownville, N.Y./ppHe attended school in Chaumont and enlisted in the United States Army, serving 6years during the Korean War Conflict. While serving, he was presented with a letter of commendationafter his invention of the split rim tire changer.In August of 1955 at the rank of Tech Sargent, He was honorably discharged andimmediately went to work for the New York Air-brake Company, in Watertown, retiring in 1988 after 33 years of credited service.He graduated from Liberty Baptist College, Lynchburg, Virginia andPastored the Stone Street Baptist church which later became the Victory church, located in Chaumont./ppDe-Wayne was a born again Christian and loved Preaching and Teaching the word of God. He was a very skilled and talented craftsman and inventor.In his youth, He built wooden boats with his Father,commonly known as the St. Lawrence skiff.He also was an award winning wood carver, specializing in duck decoys and birds. A talent he also learned from his father at a very young age. He enjoyed teaching children“The Basics of Decoy Carving” thru a Recreational program which was sponsored by The Clayton Boat Museum. He was very successful as a well dowser and loved playing the harmonica. He was a great fisherman, and loved Nature, and the pure beauty of God’s creation, he liked to travel and loved children./ppSurviving are his children, Veronica A. Benney, Chaumont. Ginger M. and Ronald Young, Chaumont, Janette K. and Bradly Backus, Brownville. DeWayne (Kevin) Benney Chaumont.Kerry D. and Nancy A. Benney, Chaumont and many grand-children and great-grandchildren./ppHe was predeceased by his wife Lillian who passed in 2014, a daughter, Veronica Jane who passed shortly after birth, his Parents and four sisters and two brothers./ppThere will be no calling Hours, However there will be a grave side service for all who wish to attend at New Cedar Grove Cemetery at 1:00 p.m Tuesday, Sept 6th,2016 held by Johnson funeral Home at the New Cedar Grove Cemetary, Route 12E, Chaumont./ppIn Lieu of Flowers, Donations can be made to the Town of Lyme Recreational Department, in Memory of DeWayne R.
