Velma F. Kingsley

pLOWVILLE – Mrs. Velma F. Kingsley, 104, of 7433 Rice Road and former resident of Parishville, peacefully passed away early Tuesday morning, August 30, 2016 at her home, where she resided with her daughter for the past several years./ppVelma was born August 1, 1912 in Hopkinton, the daughter of the late Elmer James and Amelia Mary (Votra) Fayette. She attended schools in the Syracuse area, graduating from Central Square High School. On September 2, 1939, she married Lawrence Kingsley in Chateauguay, New York. Lawrence predeceased her on March 13, 1961. /ppVelma was a “lunch lady” at Parishville School for many years, retiring in 1976. She cherished the friendships she made with the students and other employees, with many staying in touch with her throughout her retirement years. She enjoyed crocheting afghans to give to her family, friends, and students. Her afghans have traveled the world to the homes of the exchange students that attended Parishville School. In her later years, she enjoyed doing needlework and sewing. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge in Parishville and attended the Parishville Methodist Church regularly while living in Parishville. /ppVelma is survived by her daughter, Shirley McDonald of Lowville; her grandchildren, Erin Zocco of Lowville; Regan McDonald and his wife, Laura of Virginia; Shawn McDonald and his wife, Brenda of Rome; Shannon Williams and her husband, Dean of Moravia; Quinn McDonald of Lowville; Bradon McDonald and his husband, Joshua Winograde of Los Angeles; and Sherry Kingsley of Parishville; 14 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews./ppIn addition to her parents and her husband, Velma was predeceased by her son, Fay Lawrence Kingsley on April 6, 1988; her brother, Carlton Fayette; a grandson, Jason McDonald; a son-in-law, Stephen McDonald; and grandson-in-law, Steven Zocco./ppCelebrations of her life will be held in Lowville and Potsdam at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery./ppMemorial contributions may be made in her memory to Lewis County Hospice./ppMemories and condolences may be shared online at www.donaldsonseymour.com./p
