Juanita M. (Veitch) Briot

pCROGHAN, NY ~ Juanita Mae (Veitch) Briot, 83, of 9057 Briot Rd., Croghan, passed from earthly life to eternal life in the comfort of her home on Saturday, November 5, 2016, where she had been under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice./ppBorn at home in Dadville in the Town of Lowville on April 14, 1933, a daughter of George F. and Nellie Anna Dickinson Veitch, she graduated with honors from Lowville Free Academy with the Class of 1951. She grew up teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir at Petries Corners Church, and from her Senior year in high school until her marriage, she worked as a secretary for the Lewis County Home Bureau./ppShe married Edward L. Briot on September 20, 1952 in St. Peter’s Church in Lowville. Mr. Briot died on January 25, 2005./ppA loving mother and homemaker, Juanita worked most of her life lovingly taking care of her large family and for numerous years, worked as an Avon, Amway and Dutchmaid sales representative. /ppThroughout her life, she developed many talents including crocheting, knitting and sewing, making all things from pajamas to jackets to jeans and suits, and even a wedding gown. She was also a gifted upholsterer and also made custom drapery, and designed and made many wool-braided and wool-hooked rugs. She also was well known for her green thumb ability and particularly enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, having grown thousands of quarts of strawberries and perennials in her lifetime. A self-taught guitarist, she loved playing at various church and grange functions with her two sisters, Nancy and Pauline, and brother, Fred, during her younger years. Additionally, she enjoyed reading, watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and movies (loved “traveling the world via film”), and doing anything with her family who all were her life. /ppJuanita was a communicant, Eucharistic Minister, CCD Instructor, Prayer Group Member, Senior Choir Member and Music Leader of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, and was a member and former Treasurer of its Secular Franciscan Order. She was also a member of the Kirschnerville Grange where her husband was a long-time Master. She was a former member of the Petries Corners Grange. /ppSurviving are eight children including five sons and three daughters, Wayne E. (Debbie) Briot, of Barnes Corners, Dean F. (Deborah) Briot and Richard K. Briot, all of Croghan, Vincent P. (Renee) Briot, of Brantingham, and Lewis S. (Tommy Nguyen), of Syracuse, Cynthia A. (Donald) Sauer and Elizabeth M. (Stephen) Jones, all of Croghan, and Christina M. (John) Flandera, of Syracuse; 21 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; a brother, Fred Veitch, of Florida; three sisters, Veronica Proulx, of Hastings, Nancy Renodin and Pauline Babcock, both of Lowville, and several nieces and nephews./ppIn addition to her loving husband of almost 53 years, she was predeceased by her brother, William Veitch./ppJuanita’s funeral will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016, beginning with a 10:15 a.m. Prayer Service at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, with the Rev. Leo A. Wiley, retired Pastor of St. Stephen’s, officiating.
