Funeral services for Charlotte S. Wallace, age 91 of State Street in Heuvelton, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Heuvelton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rob Schirmer officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Wallace passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Maplewood Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving are her children Colleen (Curt) Ross and Larry (Kim) Wallace all of Canton; a brother, Lyle (Bonnie) Sloan of Heuvelton; a sister-in-law, Lorna Sloan of Heuvelton; grandchildren William Wallace of California, Ashley (David) White of Eugene, OR, Ryan Ross of Syracuse, Jamie Wallace, Nicholas Wallace and Beth Wallace all of Ogdensburg; and great-grandchildren Matthew Wallace, Todd Wallace and Brielle Wallace; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband William F. Wallace and a brother Donald Sloan.
Charlotte was born on August 5, 1925 in Heuvelton, NY, daughter of the late Floyd and Pearl (Foster) Sloan. She graduated from Heuvelton High School in 1944 and continued her education at the Shamrock Beauty School in Ogdensburg. She married William F. Wallace on June 22, 1948 at St. Raphael’s Rectory with Rev. Harold Martin officiating the couple’s marriage.
She began her career at Alice Ann’s Beauty Salon in Ogdensburg in 1946, and in 1950 she owned and operated Charlotte’s Beauty Nook in Heuvelton where she worked until her retirement in 1990.
Charlotte was a life member of the Order of Eastern Stars-DePeyster Chapter, the Heuvelton Presbyterian Church and the Heuvelton Women’s Bowling League. Charlotte belonged to the Colton, Lisbon, and Madrid-Waddington senior citizen groups. She was former president of the Skirts N’ Flirts square dancing club and enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling, sewing, ceramics, and watching the Syracuse Orange basketball and the New York Yankees baseball. She especially enjoyed sitting on her front porch and spending time with her friends and family.
