Robert D. Gurley, 63, of 24543 First St., Herrings, passed February 11, 2017 at his home.
There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.
Born on January 23, 1954 in Marion, SC, son of William and Gladys M. (Spivey) Gurley, he attended East Side High in Paterson, NJ.
Following school he entered the U.S. Army in 1972 and received several decorations including the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, six Army Good Conduct Medals, four Overseas Service Ribbons, a Commendation Medal with 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster and the Meritorious Service Medal. He was Honorably Discharged on October 31, 1992 as Staff Sergeant.
Upon his discharge he went to work for the Department of Defense on Fort Drum up until he retired in July of 2011.
Robert married Kathy L. Bagnato on January 30, 2015 in Carthage and the couple resided in Herrings. Kathy currently is employed at Byrne Dairy on Coffeen St. in Watertown.
He enjoyed going to the movies, playing the slot machines but most of all spending a quiet night at home with his wife.
Among his survivors are his beloved wife of two years, Kathy L. Gurley; two stepsons and their companions, Joseph N. Martin and Jessica Neubauer, Wappingers Falls, NY, Joshua M. Martin and Zachary Doubleday, Watertown; two sisters and a brother in law, Doretha and Lenew Foxworth, Paterson, NJ, Christina Bethea, Paterson, NJ; a sister in law, Nadine Gurley; an aunt, Isadora Sams; several nieces , nephews, cousins; his loving cats, Phoebe, Trudy and Trouble and twin grandchildren are due in June.
He is predeceased by two brothers, William Morris and Willy Nathan Gurley, a sister, Doris Ann Hughes and a brother in law, Wally Bethea.
