WADDINGTON — Janet Y. Williams, 83, of Waddington, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 1 - 3 pm at the Phillips Memorial Home in Waddington. A service will immediately follow calling hours at 3:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Rensselaer Falls Cemetery in the spring.
Janet was born on April 4, 1933 in Oxford, NY, the daughter of the late Arthur and Freda (Herrick) Potter. She attended school at Oxford Academy, graduating in 1951. She married Wayne Williams on July 15, 1951 in Oxford, NY. Wayne later predeceased her in 2003. Janet was a sales representative for AVON and at one time worked for American Greeting Cards as well as the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department. In her later years, she was the Librarian in Rensselaer Falls until her retirement. Janet was involved in the Rensselaer Falls Historical Society, the Seaway Senior Citizens, and was a past auxiliary member of the Rensselaer Falls Fire Department, where she was a former president and board member. She was a foster parent for over twenty years and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and social networking with her friends over the computer.
Janet is survived by her children, Wayne Williams Jr. of Fort Wayne, IN, Karen and Roger Conant of Canton, Marty Williams of Portland, ME, Gregg and Anne Williams of DeKalb Jct., Scott and Dianne Williams of Tampa, FL, Sheli and Wayne Ellison of Potsdam, Terri Tracy and companion Gordon Lalonde of Gouverneur; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Burton (David) Potter of Christiansburg, VA; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Janet is predeceased by a daughter, Donna Williams-Friot; two sisters, Evelyn Lindsay and Sheila Holmes; two brothers, James Potter and Orrest Karlson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Rensselaer Falls Library, the Rensselaer Falls Historical Society, or the Waddington Rescue Squad and Fire Department.
