Jean H. Smith

Jean H. Smith 80 of Adams Center, wife of John C. Smith Sr., and daughter of the late Ralph and Cornelia (Peebles) Martin went to be with the lord on March 23, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born on January 8, 1937.

Along with her husband of 65 years, Jean raised 9 children and she enjoyed knitting, dancing, church, and planning special events, especially family events. Over the years, Jean had volunteered at Mercy Hospital, worked at South Jefferson Central School in the cafeteria and had been the church historian and librarian at Adams Center Baptist Church. She also spent a lot of time working on fundraisers for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. For several years, Jean provided care for young children in her home who became like family.

Besides her husband, she is survived by the following children, Thomas (Sandy) Smith of Adams Center, Pam Dufresne of Adams Center, Bonnie (Kevin) Slater of Rochester Mills, PA, Michele (Scott) Fedoro of Adams, James (Bonnie) Smith Sr. of Goldsboro, NC, John (Marianne) Smith Jr. of Mechanicsville, NY, Peter (Cathy) Smith of Adams, and these grandchildren, Tom Jr. and Steven, Angela and Heidi, Karen, Kelly, Kandi and Brandon, Constance and Silas, James Jr., Hilary and Maria. Also, she is survived by 23 great grandchildren, brother in law Frederick Langworthy of Belleville, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Jean was pre-deceased by daughters Julie Anne Smith and Amy Joy Smith-Eastman, sister Janet Martin, mother and father in law James and Gertrude Smith, and sister in law Lois Langworthy.

Calling hours will be Tuesday March 28th at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home in Belleville, NY from 3pm-5pm. Pastor Al Dowker of the Honeyville Baptist Church will be officiating the funeral service at 5pm.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Jefferson County and caregivers Amy, Becca, and Heather. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Hospice of Jefferson County.
