A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Marek, age 92 of Ogdensburg, will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday (May 3, 2017) at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held also on Wednesday from 12:00pm until the time of the Mass at the church. Mrs. Marek passed away on April 27, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Home surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving is her husband Frederick Marek of Ogdensburg; son Michael Marek & his wife Donna of Ogdensburg; a sister Patricia Brady of Ogdensburg; two brothers John Bergeron of Huber Heights, OH and Thomas Bergeron of High Ridge, MO; seven grandchildren Peter Marek & his wife Kristen of Littleton, MA, Paul Marek of Auburn, Anne Colangelo of Liverpool, Joseph Marek & his wife Amanda of Natural Bridge, Loreen (Rumble) Cope, Ken Rumble & Randy Rumble all of Missouri; along with 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
A son Stephen Marek; a daughter Constance Delano; two sisters Barbara Decarr & Ruth Langley and two brothers Francis & Joseph Bergeron predeceased her.
“Betty” was born on May 29, 1924 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late Henry & Elizabeth (Gillespie) Bergeron. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and later married Frederick Marek on October 16, 1943 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Gordon Coseo officiating.
After high school, “Betty” became employed as an operator with the NY Telephone Company where she worked for ten years. In 1951 she left her employment to raise her family. “Betty” was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, The Blue Army and the Altar & Rosary Society. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, traveling and spending time with her family.
