EVANS MILLS- Louise G. Davis, 92, of NYS Rt. 37, died Friday morning, April 28, 2017 at the home of her son, Wayne C. Davis whild under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Born on May 28, 1924 in Watertown, NY, she was a daughter of George D. and Lily Bell Gary Docteur and graduated from Watertown High School in 1943.
Her first marriage was to Gilbert Blanchard who was killed in an automobile accident January 7, 1951. On October 10, 1953 Louise married Harlond F. Davis at the Stone Street Presbyterian Church, Watertown, NY. Mr. Davis died August 20, 2005.
Louise worked at the A&P Store in Watertown, NY from 1943-1946, then she worked at Crown Zellerbach, Carthage, NY for 17 years.
Currently, she is a member of the St. Andrew’s Shared Ministries, Evans Mills, NY, charter and life member of the Evans Mills Volunteer Ambulance and former member of the Pamelia Firemen’s Ladies Auxiliary, Jefferson County Firemen’s Auxiliary and the New York State Firemen’s Auxiliary.
Louise and her husband Harlond, enjoyed riding their 4 wheel ATV’s and snowmobiles at their camp on Tug Hill. After his death, her favorite past-time was watching her great-grandchildren play sports and family gatherings.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Ann Blanchard, Watertown, NY; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Mary Davis, Evans Mills, NY; three grandchildren, Sherry Sloan and her husband, Slade of Morrisville, NC, Jennifer Davis Hunt and her husband, Wesley of Watertown, NY and Stephen J. Davis and his wife, Yvonne of Evans Mills, NY; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Beatrice Wheeler, Watertown, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents, her husbands, two brothers, Clarence Docteur, killed at the Battle of the Bulge in 1944 and George Docteur, two sisters, Lily Bell Foster and Elizabeth Woodruff all passed before her.
Funeral Services will be 2 pm Friday, May 5, 2017 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY with Rev. Anne Wichelns and Rev. Sarah Lee, officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery, Watertown, NY, next to her husband, Harlond.
A calling hour will be from 1-2 pm prior to the service.
