Ruth A. Dora, 77, of Watertown passed away at Samaritan Medical Center Monday, May 22, 2017.
The family will receive friends at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, May 26, from 9:30AM until the funeral mass is celebrated at 11AM with Rev. Jonas Tandayu, MSC presiding. Burial will be at the convenience of her family. Arrangements are entrusted to Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.
Ruth was born in Hogansburg on October 12, 1939, daughter of Jonas and Mary Cook Gray and she was educated in local schools. On October 11, 1956 she married Robert A. Dora at St. Mary’s Church, Malone with Rev. Victor O. Boyle officiating. Mr. Dora died May 3, 2000.
She worked as a seamstress at Olga Knitting Mill and retired in 2015 from Hanna Sports Wear, Dexter. Ruth was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. She was very proud of her Mohawk Indian heritage. Her interests included crocheting and playing horse shoes.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda L. Vendetti and husband, Stephen P., Clay; her son, Timothy R. Dora and wife, Jill, Watertown; four grandchildren, Corey Grant, Shawn Vendetti and Timmy and Tyler Dora; three great grandchildren, Leah, Cole, and Ava; three brothers, Abram Gray, Eddie Gray, and Louie Gray and wife, Ann, all of Hogansburg; two sisters, Dorothy Shatlaw, Ft. Covington and Marie Seymour and husband, Robert, Cornwall Island; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her husband, Robert, Ruth was predeceased by four brothers, Silas, Freddie, Phillip, and George Gray, and her sister, Margaret Cullen.
