Lorne A. Bartlett

pWatertown- Lorne A. Bartlett, 89, Leray St., Watertown, passed away Sunday, March 6th at the Hospice Residence on Gotham St. with his family by his side./ppA memorial service will be 3 pm Wednesday, March 9th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Burial will be later in the spring in North Watertown Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service starting at 2 pm./ppHe is survived by his wife Phyllis; three sons, Gary (Joann) Bartlett, Felts Mills; Randy (Cheryl) Bartlett, Watertown; Mark (Teresa) Bartlett, Adams Center; 6 grandchildren, Aimee (David) Blair, Michigan; Jan (Chris) Wainwright, Watertown; Andrew Bartlett, Mannsville; Kathryn, Danielle and Sarah Bartlett, all of Watertown; one great granddaughter, Aubree, Watertown; a sister Audrey Allen, Watertown; nieces, nephews and cousins./ppLorne was born in Watertown, November 21, 1926, a son to Albert G. and Viola M. (Rogers) Bartlett. He was educated at Watertown High School. Following his schooling, Lorne worked at Balcons Pharmacy downtown (located in the current YMCA building) and the Pepsi plant where he earned the nickname “Pepsi”./ppHe was drafted into the US Navy in February of 1945, serving at Amphibious Base, Little Creek in Virginia. He was honorably discharged in July of 1946./ppUpon returning to Watertown, he worked both part time at the New York Air Brake and the Davison’s Fuel and Coal Company from 1946-1949. Mr. Bartlett became fulltime at Davison’s Fuel and Oil when he married the boss’s daughter, on October 16, 1949 at the Church of the Redeemer, who was literally “the girl next door.” He retired as owner of the coal and oil business in 1991, selling the company to Watertown Petroleum./ppLorne and Phyllis lived all of their lives in Watertown, spending many summers at their camp in Clayton. Lorne spent many summers as a child in Gananoque, Ontario, Canada where his mother was from. Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett traveled around the country, especially to Cape Cod, where he and his family visited many times. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #61 and a former life member of the North Side Improvement League./ppOnline condolences may be made at www.reedbenoit.com/p
