pCLAYTON - John Howard Leahy, 78, of John Street passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at his home./ppBorn on April 17, 1937 in Montpelier, VT, he was a son of the late Howard Francis and Alba Zambon Leahy. He graduated from St. Michael’s High School, Montpelier, VT in 1955./ppJohn married Jane Hoover of Theresa, NY on June 1, 1985 in Alexandria Bay, NY./ppHis career was largely in the area of insurance investigation in Vermont and New York, retiring from service to the state of New York./ppJohn loved music; he was an outstanding pianist from early childhood and his skill improvising beautiful melodies continued throughout his life./ppHis appreciation for friendship, country and integrity was strong and deep, but he also had a lighter side where storytelling and mimicry sparkled with good-natured humor. His yarns had their source in a rich heritage of Irish storytellers./ppSurvivors include his wife Jane; four children, a son, Sean Howard Leahy, Raleigh, NC, a daughter, Dr. Theresa Elaine Leahy, Lynchburg, VA, a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Regina Leahy, Ft. Ann, NY and a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Jeffrey Trainor, Greenfield Center, NY; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, US Senator Patrick Francis and Marcelle Leahy, Middlesex, VT; a sister, Mary Helena Leahy, Marshfield, VT./ppFriends and family are welcome to share fellowship at the Leahy’s home on 311 John Street on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 4-7 pm. /ppBurial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa, NY in the spring.
