Margaret Kiechle

Margaret Campbell Kiechle passed away on May 2, 2017, at the age of 95, at her home on Garden of Eden Road, Philadelphia, NY.

She was born to Vernon and Mable Campbell on February 11, 1922 on her grandparents dairy farm near Depauville, NY. Margaret had one sibling, Mary Campbell, who has predeceased her.

Margaret attended Houghton College, NY, graduating with a degree in Library Sciences. She lived briefly in Manila, the Philippine Islands, on a US military base with her first husband Lloyd Grant and children before returning to the States.

After a brief residence in Connecticut, she returned to Philadelphia with her children to live with her parents who were operating a dairy farm near Philadelphia, NY.

Margaret married Roy Kiechle, a farmer from the Philadelphia area, and assumed residence with her children on his working dairy farm on the Garden of Eden Road. She was a librarian at the local high school for several years, before returning to the traditional role and responsibilities of a farmer’s wife, including the raising of her increasing family numbers (2 more boys).

She leaves 5 sons: Bruce, Gordon and Roger Grant, and Daniel and Peter Kiechle; 5 grandchildren: Evan Campbell Grant, Leigh Campbell Grant, Jesse Adam Grant, Josh Grant and Kristin Grant; and

2 great-grandchildren: Miriam Iris Toschik and Simone Bee Toschik.

The elder Campbell’s were active members for many years of the United Methodist Church in Philadelphia; her father, Vernon Campbell, was a lay leader of the church.

Margaret was active in the Philadelphia, NY United Methodist Church, giving her time with the ladies groups in their works supporting the Church and its functions.

Margaret enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, collecting antique glass, reading and conversations with her friends from church and town.

There will be a memorial gathering at the Philadelphia United Methodist Church on June 24 2017 commencing at 11:AM with a Methodist service conducted by Pastor McPheeters, to be followed by a gathering in the Church community area where refreshments will be served.

The gathering will be an opportunity for family and friends to share their remembrances of Margaret and of her life spent in the community of Philadelphia. All are invited and welcomed to attend.
