Robert D. Adamson, 77, AuSable Forks, NY, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017, in the company of his wife and two sons.
Born March 18, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Malcolm and Edna Adamson. He attended high school in Brooklyn and graduated from Farmingdale Agricultural and Technical College with and Associates Degree in Horticulture.
He entered the United States Navy in 1959 and served as a Machinist’s Mate on two destroyers. He was honorably discharge in 1963 after visiting numerous Atlantic and Mediterranean ports.
He married Diane Vollmer from Farmingdale, New York, on October 12, 1963, and they eventually settled in Mattituck on Long Island’s North Fork. He owned and operated a successful landscaping business there for many years. His sons worked for him during their summer breaks from school and Diane did the bookkeeping. The family moved to AuSable Forks in 1982, where Mrs. Adamson taught business at Saranac High School and Clifton Community College.
Mr. Adamson loved the outdoors, and particularly enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, and hiking. He was a skilled jack-of-all-trades who renovated each “fixer-upper” house the family lived in. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Diane, two sons, Robert and Duncan (“Scott”), their wives, Melanie and Sue, and granddaughters Sydney and Taylor (Robert) and Annie and Winnie (Duncan).
There are no funeral services. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY.
