FINE – Lloyd “Joe” James Antwine, age 80, of Fine, passed away on June 18, 2017 at the Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.
Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Edwards on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with his funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Lay Pastor Lori Hickey. Burial will be in the Antwine Family Cemetery in South Edwards.
Joe was born on July 14, 1936 in Norfolk to the late Harold and Nellie (Bush) Antwine. He attended the Raymondville one-room schoolhouse and worked as a super calendar operator for the Newton Falls Paper Mill from the age of 18 until getting hurt on the job in 1973.
He married Shirley J. Phelix in August of 1953.
Joe loved being in the woods. He lived and breathed to hunt, fish, and go boating. He had a good sense of humor and really enjoyed life. He was a lifetime member of the Gouverneur ELKS Lodge for 40 years.
His survivors include his wife, Shirley; daughter, Robin Swigart; nieces that he and Shirley helped raise, Toni Vergilia and Renee Silsby; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Harold Clark; 3 grandchildren, Donald J. Vergilia III, Casey Morgan, and Robert Swigart; and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. There are a few nieces and nephews that have been especially been there for him including Jerry and Alice Antwine, Tim and Connie Antwine, Lorna and Steve Taylor, and Jamie and Cathy Clark.
Joe is predeceased by a son, Douglas James Antwine, and a brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Marie Antwine.
