Gloria J. Babel, 85, of Watertown passed away, Wednesday, June 28th at Samaritan Medical Center.
Gloria was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, December 19, 1931, the daughter of Lewis and Stella Draper. Her family moved to Tonawanda, NY when she was young and she went on to graduate from Tonawanda High School.
She married Earl G. Babel, August 29, 1953.
Gloria enjoyed being a homemaker and went on to become an Avon Representative for over 40 years, earning the title of Top Sales Representative in her district on more than one occasion.
Gloria was always smiling, but the things that brought her the most joy in life besides her family and friends, were sunny days on the boat, Sunday dinner at the Lake, bargain hunting at yard sales, attending water aerobics at the Y, and keeping up with everyone through Skype and social media.
Gloria is survived by two sons, Lewis “Ollie” and daughter in law Cindy Babel of Dexter, William “Bill” Babel and his companion Linda Orvis of Clayton, daughter in law Karen Axenfeld, Adams Center, her eldest sister Louella Williams, Saratoga Springs, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Earl Babel, her youngest son James “Jimmer” Babel, a sister Carol Merritt, and brother Thomas Draper.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 9th at First United Methodist Church, Mullin Street in Watertown. There will be a gathering beginning at Noon with a service to follow at 1 PM.
