J. Patrick Meylor

J. Patrick Meylor, 89, of 1124 Jewell Dr., formerly of Flower Ave. W. passed away July 8, 2017, of vascular disease, at Hospice of Jefferson County at the Ellis Farm.

Mr. Meylor was born May 21, 1928, in Watertown, son of John B. and Jessie York Meylor. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1946. During high school, he played football, shot put and discus, winning sectionals two years in a row. As a young man he was a lifeguard at Westcott Beach and a greens keeper at Ives Hill Country Club.

In September 1946, he entered the United States Army. He served as a medic in Seoul, Korea where he worked to eradicate malaria in the region. In 1950, he graduated from St. Lawrence University with an accounting degree. On September 6, 1952, he married Mary Doreen “ Mickey” Mc Reynolds at the St. Francis de Sales Church in Smith Falls, Ontario. Mrs. Meylor died on September 17, 2004.

Mr. Meylor owned and operated J. Patrick Meylor Public Accountant until he sold the business to Jesmore Associates in 1995. He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and Holy Family Church, a member of the Elks Lodge, VFW, Chamber of Commerce, the Highline Hunting Club, a volunteer for Holy Family Church and a trustee for St. Patrick’s Church. He enjoyed playing golf at Ives Hill Country Club and Watertown Golf Club. Mr. Meylor assisted the Watertown Golf Club for several years with their bookkeeping. From 2004 until recently Mr. Meylor enjoyed gardening and maintaining his son’s property in Henderson Harbor.

Surviving are a son Edward J. (Maureen), Westfield, NJ, a daughter Susan A. (Harold B. II) Johnson, Watertown, seven grandchildren, Jessica Meylor, James Meylor, Thomas Meylor ( Erica Mungall), Katherine Meylor, Alec (Gabrielle) Johnson, Anna Johnson, Leslie Johnson and one great grandchild, Charlotte Meylor. Mr. Meylor’s son James Patrick “Jay” Meylor died in 1981.

Calling hours will be Monday 4-7pm at the D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 1:15 pm at the funeral home with a 2pm funeral mass at Holy Family Church with Rev. Leo Wiley officiating. Entombment will be in Glenwood Mausoleum with military honors.
