Joseph Morris Clopman

PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida – Joseph Morris Clopman, 70, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and formerly of Massena, New York, passed away at home after a long illness on Friday, August 18, 2017.

Mr. Clopman was born on November 2, 1946, in Massena, New York, the son of Harry A. Clopman and Rose E. (Cohen) Clopman. In 1964, he graduated from Massena Central High School and in 1968 he earned an Associate’s Degree from Canton Tech. On October 9, 1977, he married Marilyn F. (Cohen) Clopman in Schenectady, New York. He worked in his family’s business in Massena from the time he was in high school until he retired in 2008.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years Marilyn F. Clopman of Port St. Lucie, Florida; his mother, Rose E. Clopman of Massena, New York; his sister, Miriam S. Catapano and brother-in-law, Frank Catapano of Louisville, New York; three sons: Andrew W. Clopman and daughter-in-law, Astrid J. Clopman of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Nathan I. Clopman of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and Mark S. Clopman and daughter-in-law, Johanna Krueger of Hamburg, Germany; four grandchildren, Henry C. Clopman and Oscar H. Clopman of Hamburg, Germany, and Paul H. Clopman and Rose E. Clopman of Port St. Lucie, Florida; his father-in-law, Philip Cohen of East Schodack, New York; a sister-in-law, Susan Kugler and Dennis Kugler of East Schodack, New York, and brother-in-law, Robert Cohen and Rose Cohen of Locust Grove, Virginia; an aunt, Rhoda Clopman of Pittsford, New York; and his faithful canine companion, Jimmy. He is also survived by many first cousins that he was very close to, Dr. Samuel (Judith) Greenblatt, Joel (Shirley) Greenblatt), Matthew (Sally) Greenblatt, Janet S. Clopman, Frances (Scott) Fine, Paula Kohl, Margie Kurgan, and Jerry Kurgan. He is also survived by nieces and a nephew.

He was predeceased by his father, Harry A. Clopman in 2013 and mother-in-law, Eileen M. Cohen in 2016.

Mr. Clopman was a member of the Massena Lodge 513 F&AM for over 48 years. He was a member and officer in many community organizations in Massena, New York, and a congregant at the former Adath Israel Synagogue. He also was a strong supporter of numerous charitable organizations in Massena, including the Salvation Army, civic organizations, minor sports, and merchant organizations. He retired to Florida in 2008 and spent the last few years as a full-time grandfather.

A time of visitation will be held Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where his funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM, with his son, Andrew Clopman, officiating. Burial will follow in Adath Israel Cemetery, Massena.

His family is very grateful to Mr. Clopman’s private nurses, Hospice nurses, doctors, cousins, and friends for their support.

Donations in memory of Mr. Clopman can be made to Treasure Coast Hospice and/or Massena Memorial Hospital Foundation.
