James E. Prosper

pMr. James E. Prosper, age 79 of Potsdam, NY passed away on April 26th at the Massena Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are with the Garner Funeral Service. He was currently a resident at St. Regis Nursing Home. Online condolences can be sent @www.garnerfh.com. A public graveside service for James will be held on Friday, April 29th at 1pm at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam, NY with Deacon James Snell celebrant. A reception will follow at Sergis Restaurant and Banquet Hall in Potsdam. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department. /ppJames is survived by his wife Patricia Prosper; son Thomas (Crystal) Prosper; daughters Roxanne (Rick) Dumas and Lori (Paul) Hollis; brother John Prosper; sister Carol Shatraw; half sisters Marsha Martell and Sharlene Sommerfield; grandchildren Ashley and Kala Prosper and Emily and Tyler Hollis and several nieces and nephews. /ppMr. James E. Prosper was born on October 14, 1936 in Massena, NY to the late Thomas Prosper and Oleta Root. He attended both Massena and Potsdam Schools. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to the States and on September 13, 1958 he was married to Patricia LaVean at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam, NY. /ppJames worked at Murphy’s Shell Station in Potsdam for 18 years. He then worked for PACES at SUNY Potsdam as a maintenance man for 30 years. James enjoyed hunting and was very proud of his years spent as a member of the Potsdam Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member from 1960-1995 and served as chief from 1972-1974. James loved to spend time with his family. He was very proud of them and loved to share his thoughts of his family to his friends. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and it truly showed on his face when they visited him./p
