pFuneral services for Elwyn F. Fields, at the age of 76 of West Stockholm will be held 10:00 am on Saturday (May 28, 2016) at the Garner Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Sweeney officiating. Burial will follow at the West Stockholm Cemetery. /ppCalling hours will be held Friday (May 27, 2016) from 4:00PM to 7:00PM at the funeral home. Mr. Fields passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2016. /ppHe is survived by his four children: Elwyn Jr. (Debi) Fields, and their children Matthew and Hannah; Mike (Kathy) Fields, and their children Kasey, Jessica and Eric; Mary Jo (Mark) Reichert, and their children Brandi, Brendon (and great grandson Liam), Andrew and Ben; and Chris (Tessa) Fields, and their children Alexa and Emma./ppElwyn was born on February 28, 1940 in Syracuse to Hazel (Reed) and Isreal Fields. The fourth of nine children, Elwyn was raised on the family farm as they eventually settled in Dryden, NY. He was a very good student and excelled in sports, garnering numerous awards as a 4-sport high school athlete. He played semi-pro football for the Massena Warriors./ppElwyn married Marlene Conklin in 1962 and the couple eventually moved to Potsdam to raise their family. Elwyn was predeceased by his wife of 48 years. He was a professional truck driver, in addition to working a large vegetable farm every summer that supplied numerous grocery stores throughout the North Country./ppElwyn was an avid sports fan, rarely missing any game that his children played in. He was also very active in coaching numerous youth teams over the years. Elwyn was instrumental in helping to re-institute the Potsdam High School Booster Club, and served as its president for many years. Even after his children were out of the school system, he was a regular spectator at many local high school and college sporting events./ppIn retirement, Elwyn enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed cooking, wheeling and dealing on various purchases, and his life-long passion for playing cards which included winning money from his friends in local poker tournaments!/ppMemorial contributions can be made to the Potsdam Booster Club; P.O.
