Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Watertown./ppBorn February 6, 1920 on Wolfe Island, Ontario, Canada, son of John and Laura (Kane) Greenwood, he attended school on Wolfe Island. Following school he farmed and was self employed doing carpentry work. He later moved to the United States in 1946 where he lived in Watertown. /ppHe lived in Binghamton, NY for a short time where he met his wife, Minnie M. Miller of Pennsylvania. The couple married on October 1, 1949 in Stanuic, PA at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Zaranachy officiating. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Binghamton for a short time before moving to Watertown in 1950. /ppCecil was a self employed private carpenter and contractor for over 40 years in the Watertown and Evans Mills area. The couple also owned and operated a dairy farm in Evans Mills for a short time, where they resided in 1953. Minnie worked at Sears Roebuck & Co. for 30 years from 1951 until her retirement in 1981as a receiving clerk . She died on December 21,1992. Cecil moved back to Watertown in 2002./ppHe is survived by several nieces and nephews, and predeceased by three brothers, Clifford, Harry, Emmett Greenwood, and three sisters, Lola Holder, Geraldine Flynn and Mable O’Brien./ppDonations in his memory may be made to Our Lady of the Scared Heart Church, 320 W. Cole, 91, of 274 St. Regis Road, passed away Tuesday morning, February 23, 2016, at TSIIONKWANONHSO:TE, Cornwall Island Long Term Care Facility, where she had been a resident since May 2015./ppMay was born May 10, 1924, on Cornwall Island, ON, daughter of the late Elijah and Agnes Jacobs Benedict. She attended schools on Cornwall Island and in Cornwall. She married Thomas Cole at the St. Regis Catholic Church in 1947 with Rev. Michael Jacobs officiating. Thomas predeceased her on July 20, 2001./ppMay was proud of being a Bear Clan member. She was also a member of the Hogansburg Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, the Mohawk Singers, the Hogansburg Senior Citizens, the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group, and the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as their first president./ppShe was a homemaker, assisting on the family farms early in life, going on to drive school bus for Twin Rivers, and later for Massena. She also worked and retired from the Tribes Clinic. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and visiting with family./ppShe is survived by one daughter and seven sons, Dennis and Natalie Cole of Michigan; Thomas Wayne and Lynn Cole of Akwesasne; Jefferey Alex and Dale “Cookie” Cole of Akwesasne; Harris and Donna Cole of Akwesasne; David “Brian” Cole of Kentucky; Maxine Cole of Cornwall Island, Ontario; Stephen and Laura Benedict of Akwesasne; Sam and Heather Benedict of Bombay; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Benedict of Cornwall Island; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her sisters, Margaret Rhodes, Syracuse; Esther and James Thompson of Cornwall Island; Helen Benedict of Cornwall Island; and Betty David of Cornwall Island; and her brother Charles “Buster” and Pat Benedict of Cornwall Island; and many nieces and nephews./ppBesides her husband Thomas, May was predeceased by a son, Edwin Benedict on December 9, 2004; a grandson, Cody C. pPlattsburgh- Mr. Paul N. Desnoyers, 60, of Plattsburgh, formerly of Malone, NY, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 at his home after a brief bout of cancer. He was born in Malone on September 15, 1955 the son of the late Wilfred “Huck” and Pauline (Lalonde) Desnoyers. /ppPaul graduated from high school and enlisted in the United States Army.  Paul was an avid outdoorsman, finding peace in the mountains.  His true passion was for big game hunting, traveling the United States and Canada.  If he wasn’t outside, he could be found cleaning his firearms, chatting on the telephone, or telling a story to friends. Richard D. Vine
pRichard D. Vine, age 70, passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at his winter home in Tavares, FL. He was also a resident of Adams Center, NY. Mr. Vine was born May 5, 1945, the son of Grant and Dora LaBreck Vine in Watertown, NY. He graduated from Watertown High School and joined the U.S. Army. Upon discharge from the service, he was employed by the New York Airbrake Company for many years. Mr. Vine is survived by his wife, Kathleen M. Flint Vine and their children and their spouses; Dora and Kenneth Stevens of Adams Center, NY, Donna and Andrew St. Laurent of Woodbridge, VA, and Douglas and Allison Vine of Schenectady, NY. Two children, David and Dorothea, preceded him in death. He has four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Judy Hutton of Murfreesboro, TN, Janette Engel of North Charleston, SC, Shirley Sweet of Watertown, NY; plus several nieces and nephews. Three brother died before him, Donald, Gary, and Scott Vine. Richard Vine was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, watching sports, and his friends at Mid Lake Resorts in Florida. He was a great family man and especially loved being a grandfather. Louise Kneip Vantran. He attended Fallsburg High School in Fallsburg, NY, and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his service, he worked construction on the Neversink Dam in Sullivan County. In 1958, Stan started work with NYABC, which later became Eastern A.I. Cooperative. On October 25, 1958, he married Gene Eleanor Sprague at Liberty United Methodist Church in Liberty, NY. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Lowville, moving to their current residence in May 1965. Stan continued his work as an A.I. Technician throughout Lewis County for over 32 years, retiring in 1990./ppMr. Vantran was a member of Lowville Baptist Church. He was a member of Lowville American Legion Post #162, and an associate member of Lewis County Marine Corps Det. #754. He was a past President of Lowville Kiwanis Club, a member of B.P.O.E. #1605, Lowville Elks Lodge, and was a Master Mason in Lowville Lodge #134 F & AM. /ppStan enjoyed hunting and fishing, music and gardening. She worked at Clarkson College of Technology for several years and then was a secretary at Lawrence Avenue Elementary School in Potsdam retiring in 1994 with over 30 years of service. /ppPhyllis and her husband Harold were inseparable and loved to socialize. They enjoyed music and attended many Blue Grass Festivals. She worked the election board for years, was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, a member of the West Stockholm Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in West Stockholm, NY. Phyllis was a joy to be around and her hugs will be missed by all. /p

Lewis O. Nicol
pCOPENHAGEN – Lewis O. Nicol, 91, 2970 Humphrey Rd., died at home on Thursday morning, February 25, 2016./ppBorn in Chaumont, NY, the son of Fred & Margaret Lewis Nicol. He attended rural school in Chaumont, then high school in Dexter for a year, before graduating from Copenhagen High School with the Class of 1943. He entered the United States Navy in 1943. He served in the Pacific Theater for three years during World War II on the aircraft carrier, the USS Bataan. In 1946, after the War, he served in the Naval Reserve until 1953. /ppHe married Dorothy Randles on July 23, 1950; they were happily married for 65 years./ppMr. Nicol was employed by the Copenhagen School District for 29 years, retiring in 1988 as the head custodian. He was also involved in local politics for 25 years. He was a councilman for the Town of Denmark from 1973 - 1980, then supervisor from 1980 – 1987. He also served as a Lewis County Legislator for 10 years from 1988 – 1998. He was a member of many local organizations, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Orient Lodge of Copenhagen, the North Country Draft Horse Club and the United Church of Copenhagen. He was also a member of the American Legion for 69 years, marching in the Copenhagen Memorial Day Parade for 54 consecutive years. /ppLewis helped establish the Citizens Patrol of Lewis County and served with them for three years. He loved sports; he played golf for more than forty years and played football with the Navy Team at Pearl Harbor. He was also a fan of Syracuse University basketball./ppHe is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Randy G. Nicol and his wife Betsy and son Scott L. Nicol and his wife Susan, both of Copenhagen. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Harold Hunter and an infant son James R. Hunter. /ppMrs. Phyllis R. Hunter was born September 7, 1938 in Plattsburg, NY to the late James Rockwell and Dorothy Ballou. She was a 1956 graduate of Potsdam Central School. On June 7, 1957 in Colton, NY she was married to Harold W. Hunter at the Colton Methodist Church. She worked at Clarkson College of Technology for several years and then was a secretary at Lawrence Avenue Elementary School in Potsdam retiring in 1994 with over 30 years of service. /ppPhyllis and her husband Harold were inseparable and loved to socialize. They enjoyed music and attended many Blue Grass Festivals. She worked the election board for years, was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, a member of the West Stockholm Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in West Stockholm, NY. Phyllis was a joy to be around and her hugs will be missed by all. /p

Dr. Michael Camillo
pWe are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Michael F. Camillo, M.D., 62, loving and supportive husband, father, and brother, on Thursday February 18, 2016. /ppHe is survived by his wife Nelsie Bicua Camillo; daughter Francesca Camillo; brothers, Christopher and Mark Camillo; and sister, Lynne Camillo. He is predeceased by his mother Marian Camillo and father Michael F. Camillo, M.D. /ppHe worked ardently and tirelessly and was generous with his time and knowledge. He had true compassion and was always prepared to listen and learn.
