Rita M. Lawrence

Canton, New York, Rita M. (St. Dennis) Lawrence, 85, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Ogdensburg.

Rita was born June 2, 1931 in Canton, the daughter of Herbert and Marie (Bloss) St. Dennis. She graduated from Canton High School in 1949. Rita continued her education at the A. Barton Hepburn School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1953. She was employed as a staff nurse at the Canton E.J. Noble Hospital from 1953 to 1960 and in later years, she worked as a Private Duty Nurse for those in need of extra care at homes or hospital.

She married John A. Lawrence on August 6, 1955 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton, with the Rev. Albert Salmon, officiating.

Raising the family and following their activities in education and sports was her daily routine. Her care of the sick and elderly was also appreciated by those requiring her services. Rita enjoyed watching sports, swimming, picnics and golf, especially at the Madrid Golf Course.

Rita is survived by her husband John A. Lawrence, daughters, Mary Lawrence of Canton; Kathleen Lawrence of Ormond Beach, FL; Patricia and Kirk Todd of Canton and their children, Sara and Darrel Ackroyd of Ballston Spa; Travis and Nicole Todd of Canton; Jessica and Christopher Wheeler of Canton and Andrew Todd of Canton; Steven and Lynn Lawrence of Potsdam and their children, Harrison Lawrence of Boston and Delaney Lawrence of Potsdam; and James Lawrence of Potsdam and his children, John and Chantel Lawrence of Potsdam, James Lawrence of Nashville, TN and Thomas Lawrence of Potsdam. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren, a sister, Venita Briggs of Canton along with many nieces and nephews.

A sister, Esther Greenwood predeceased her.

Calling hours for Rita will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 26, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Canton. Burial at the Convenience of the family will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Amelia A. Weems

WEST PARISHVILLE – Mrs. Amelia Ann (Bush) Weems, 94, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 21, 2017 at the St. Regis Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since March 2015.

Amelia was born November 3, 1922 in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Archie and Elizabeth Smith Bush and was a graduate of Potsdam High School. On June 14, 1944, she married Albert S. Weems at their home in West Parishville. He predeceased her on April 6, 2010.

Amelia and her late husband operated a dairy farm for many years. She also worked for a time at Potsdam Hospital as a nurse’s aide and was a rural mail carrier at one time. She was a hard worker who dedicated her time to her children and later her grandchildren. After her retirements, she enjoyed helping at various functions at the Hannawa Falls Methodist Church. Amelia was also very involved in the Eastern Star, serving as the Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1967, 1972, 1988, 1989, 1992, 1993, and 1996 as well as the Grand Representative of the Province of New Brunswick near the Grand Chapter of New York in 1976, 1977, and 1978.

Amelia is survived by her children and their spouses, Sally and Hugh Newton of Hannawa Falls; Lynda and Carson James of Hannawa Falls; Carol and Duane Irish of West Parishville; and Bill and Susan Weems of West Parishville; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Randy) LaBelle, Eric Newton (Amanda Pearson), Patty McCarthy (Scott Hodge), Robin (Dale) Harper, Brad (Roxanne) James, Sara Myers (Calvin Sharlow), Amy Irish-Bicknell (Justin Hicks), Christopher (Erica) Weems, and Benjamin

(Hayna) Weems; many great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Amelia was predeceased by

15 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call Thursday 4-7:00 PM at the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, where funeral services will be held Friday 2:00 PM with Rev. Lee Sweeney, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, West Parishville. The members of the Eastern Star will meet Thursday at 6:30PM for a memorial ritual.

Mary M. Bouchard, 96, passed away at her home on S. Massey St., Watertown on Sunday, May 21, 2017.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Wednesday, May 24, from 4 - 7PM. A prayer service will be at the funeral home on Thursday, May 25, at 9:15AM followed by the funeral mass celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church at 10AM with Msgr. Robert Aucoin, pastor, presiding. Burial will be in Black River Cemetery.

Mary was born on Wolfe Island, Ontario, Canada on April 12, 1921, daughter of Francis M. and Elizabeth (Taylor) Baker. She attended Deferiet Grade School and graduated from Augustinian Academy, Carthage.

On Valentine’s Day, 1946 she married Clarence J. Bouchard at St. Rita’s Church, Deferiet. Mr. Bouchard died November 5, 1976.

She worked in the test lab at St. Regis Paper Co., Deferiet. She then began her career at Jefferson Rehabilitation Center, Watertown in 1968 and retired as a Sheltered Workshop Supervisor in 1988 after 20 years of service to the center.

Mary was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters along with close friends.

She is survived by her three children, Marjorie A. “Marge” O’Brien, Syracuse, Robert J. Bouchard and wife, Sharon, Sackets Harbor, and Patricia E. Zaremba and husband, Arthur “Art” Jr., Watertown; 8 grandchildren, Shannon Exford, Eugene M. O’Brien, James J. O’Brien, Catherine A. Reidy, Lindsay A. Bouchard, Graig Zaremba, Justin Zaremba, and Ashley Carducci, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Richard A. Smith, Deferiet; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her husband, Clarence, she was predeceased by her three sisters, Dorothy Parmele, Eileen Baker, and Elizabeth “Betty” Smith.

Mary’s family would especially like to express their thanks to her caregiver, Mona Lentine, and the Hospice staff. Ruth A. Dora, 77, of Watertown passed away at Samaritan Medical Center Monday, May 22, 2017.

The family will receive friends at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church on Friday, May 26, from 9:30AM until the funeral mass is celebrated at 11AM with Rev. Jonas Tandayu, MSC presiding. Burial will be at the convenience of her family. Arrangements are entrusted to Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.

Ruth was born in Hogansburg on October 12, 1939, daughter of Jonas and Mary Cook Gray and she was educated in local schools. On October 11, 1956 she married Robert A. Dora at St. Mary’s Church, Malone with Rev. Victor O. Boyle officiating. Mr. Dora died May 3, 2000.

She worked as a seamstress at Olga Knitting Mill and retired in 2015 from Hanna Sports Wear, Dexter. Ruth was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. She was very proud of her Mohawk Indian heritage. Her interests included crocheting and playing horse shoes.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda L. Vendetti and husband, Stephen P., Clay; her son, Timothy R. Dora and wife, Jill, Watertown; four grandchildren, Corey Grant, Shawn Vendetti and Timmy and Tyler Dora; three great grandchildren, Leah, Cole, and Ava; three brothers, Abram Gray, Eddie Gray, and Louie Gray and wife, Ann, all of Hogansburg; two sisters, Dorothy Shatlaw, Ft. Covington and Marie Seymour and husband, Robert, Cornwall Island; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with her husband, Robert, Ruth was predeceased by four brothers, Silas, Freddie, Phillip, and George Gray, and her sister, Margaret Cullen.

Cecilia M. “Ceci” Capone, 57, of Watertown, passed away May 20, 2017 at her home in Dewitt, NY, with her family by her side.

Ceci was born July 17, 1959, in Watertown, daughter of Dr. Anthony C. and Angeline Oeschger Capone. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1976 and attended the SMT School of Cosmetology. Ceci was a driver for Freeman Bus Company for over 27 years. She drove a school bus, charter bus, limousines and small tour buses. She resigned due to her health in 2016.

Ceci was a natural athlete. She was active at a young age where she enjoyed ballet and gymnastics, among many other physical activities. Ceci was an avid bowler, known for her high arching delivery in many bowling leagues. She was a true believer in the Catholic faith. Her children and family were her greatest joy, especially her grandchildren. Some of her favorite things were dancing, 80’s rock, her favorite band was Aerosmith, White Russian cocktails, the herb rosemary, the color purple, cooking her homemade lasagna and her one of a kind sauce and meatballs. Ceci loved to tell her family, “I love you to the moon and back.”

Ceci believed in miracles. Her gift was to make people laugh. Her unforgettable smile always lit up the room. She lived a hopeful, understanding and compassionate life.

Surviving are her three children, a son, Forrester E. Wight and his girlfriend Margaret (Miss Mags) Rathbun, DeWitt, NY, two daughters, Tiffany M. Knight, Clay, NY and Jaclyn A. Papalski, Liverpool, NY, five brothers, Anthony (Jane), Pennsylvania, David (Katie), Batavia, NY, Dr. Patrick (Ellen) Winchester, VA, Dr. Peter (Susan) Binghamton, NY, James (Karen), Syracuse, NY, five sisters, Theresa Lyman, Baldwinsville, NY, Christine Meath, Rochester, NY, Rita (James) Hall, Framingham, MA, Maria (Charles) Dibble, Adams Center, NY, Jean (Sidney) Pond, Watertown, NY, four grandchildren, Claire (Claire Bear) McNitt, Hayden Staab, Noella (Wellie) Papalski, Ava (Ava Lane) Papalski, several nieces and nephews, and her best friend Tina Reid (Pacific). Her parents, a sister Donna Marie, as an infant, and a brother Dr. Thomas Capone, all died before her.

The funeral service for Gloria J. “Nanny” Draper will be 6:00pm Friday, June 2nd at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Pastor Lynn Lockwood officiating. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of her family. Calling hours will precede the service from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at the funeral home.

Gloria passed away at the Samaritan Medical Center Saturday, May 20th following a brief illness. She was 68 years old.

Born in Watertown January 13, 1949 she was the daughter of Leroy and Mary (Franklin) Draper, Sr. She was educated locally, and was employed as an office clerk at Great American Grocery Store on State Street, Watertown.

Gloria enjoyed working, crocheting, baking, cooking, and watching movies. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Kimberly and Randy Lockwood of Watertown, Maryann and Andy McGrath of Orwell, Laurie Mallette; and a brother, Leroy (Robin) Draper, Jr. of Watertown. Also surviving are several grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Gloria is predeceased by a brother, John Draper, and a sister, Vickie Janack.

Hazel M. Dodge, age 76 residing at United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton, NY passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017. She was a loving wife to her surviving husband Clifford J. Dodge of Potsdam. She is also survived by her children April Forrett of Potsdam, Vicki Dodge of Massena, NY; Penny Dodge of Massena, NY; George N. Dodge of Raymondville, NY and David M. Dodge of North Bangor, NY.

She was a loving and devoted grandmother to 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Cremation services were provided by the Garner Funeral Service of Potsdam, NY.

Stephen D. Cornell, 45, 846 Cooper Street, passed away May 23, 2017 at the Samaritan Medical Center.

Stephen was born June 8, 1971 in Watertown, son of Stephen and Suzann Alberry Cornell. He graduated from Brushton Moira High School. Stephen attended Jefferson Community College and Canton ATC for Fire Science and Advanced Life Support training.

Stephen was a firefighter and EMT for the Town of Watertown Fire Department and Ambulance. He volunteered for the Three Mile Bay Fire Company Inc and has been a first responder for 24 years and a firefighter for 26years. Steven was involved with the Northern Ambulance, Malone Fire Department, Massena Fire and Rescue, Calcium Fire Department, Evans Mills Ambulance, Seaway Valley Fire Department, Chaumont Fire Department, Lewis County Search and Rescue, Depauville Fire Department, Guilfoyle Ambulance, Middletown Ambulance and Fire Department, and Westville Fire Department. Stephen joined other firefighters in NYC during 9/11. He was a volunteer with the American Red Cross in 1993 helping the victims of the Missouri floods and again in 1994 aiding people in the Los Angeles, California Earth Quake.

As a dedicated firefighter he belonged to Fireman’s Association of the State of New York. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, spending time with his daughter Susan and his friends. His favorite firefighting training was water ball.

Besides his parents he is survived by a daughter, Susan R. Cornell, Three Mile Bay, two brothers, Spencer P. (Wendy), Chaumont, Sean R. (Angel), Shippensburg, PA, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

LaFargeville; Mrs. Betty J. Dodge, 88, died Monday, May 22nd, at the Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown. Services will be private at the family’s convenience.

Arrangements are with the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton.

Betty was born January 5th, 1929, in the Town of Orleans, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Timmerman.

She married Neil J. Dodge, who died before her.

Betty worked at various hospitals in the North Country, and also was a bartender at many bar and restaurant establishments.

She enjoyed bingo, reading, and in the past few years spending time with her daughters.

Surviving are two daughters, Shari and her companion Mike of Hammond, and Cathy (Dave) Parker of Cape Vincent; three sons, Neil of Clayton, Craig (Becky) of Watertown, and Ron (Christine) of New Jersey; a son in law, Al Gotham of Watertown; and grandchildren.

Two daughters, Judy Gotham who died April 15th at age 70, and Donna LaBow, died before her.

Lois Perkins, 89, Canton formally of Potsdam, peacefully passed away Thursday evening, May 19, 2017 at United Helpers Maplewood Campus in Canton.

Lois was born on June 5, 1927 in Potsdam, NY the daughter of the late George and Margaret (Mullin) Perkins. She graduated from Potsdam Central School and later attended Potsdam State. She married John Andrikut Sr. July 30, 1949. John passed away in 1999. Lois worked for the New York Telephone Company for 5 years before leaving to raise her children. Ms. Perkins was a past president to the Potsdam Women’s Republican Club, lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam along with the Alter Rosary Society, taught Catechism classes for 23 years and a communicant for over 60 years.

Lois is survived by her two sons; John Andrikut Jr of Potsdam and Stephen and Susan Andrikut of Florida, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lois is predeceased by a sisters Marjorie Beigel, Ruth Carmichael, Irene Murphy and Katherine Schwarczkopf, brothers; Lawrence, Lloyd, Bernard, Maurice and Kenneth and Robert Perkins.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, May 23rd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam. Funeral will be held on Wednesday May 24th at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church Potsdam with Rev. Howard Vennett and Rev. Stephen Rocker co-officiating.

Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Potsdam.

Allen E. “Big Al” Tamblin, 60, Dry Hill Rd., Watertown, passed away at his home, Monday evening on May 22, 2017.

The memorial service will be 6 pm Saturday, May 27th at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with Pastor Terry Alford officiating. Calling hours are Saturday from 4 pm – 6 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Allen is survived by his three children, Al Tamblin and his children, daughters Bailee, Breya and Araya and son Silas, all of Adams; Taylor (Amber) Tamblin, Central Square and their sons, Aiden, Bryce and Elijah; Krystle Tamblin (Tim Rogers), Belleville, with sons Alex, Dominick and Xavier; two brothers Arnold Tamblin, Woodville, Scott (Robin) Tamblin, Woodville and his sister April Williams, Belleville. He was predeceased by a grandson Gabriel Rogers.

He was born Allen Elliott Tamblin on June 24th, 1956, a son to Arnold E. and Audrey Clark Tamblin. He graduated from Union Academy Belleville in 1975. After graduation, Big Al moved to North Carolina where he met and married Kathy Bobb. The marriage ended in divorce.

Big Al went to work at Porterdale Farms on April 30, 1996, and was currently the Feed Manager at the time of his passing. He loved his job and enjoyed his co-workers.

He was a unique character who kept to himself most of the time, but had a couple of passions that would always bring him to life. His first and foremost passion was the New York Football Giants. On game nights he enjoyed filling his house with friends and “rattling the windows” over a good game, no matter the outcome.

In past years he also loved and followed the local rock band “Lindsay Creek.” He could always be found standing in front of them, beer in hand, cheering them on in a way only he could do.

Everyone who knew “Big Al” has a smile and a story. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Waddington: Sandra J. Sharpe, age 59, passed away after a brief illness at Claxton-Hepburn Hospital Sunday evening (May 21, 2017) surrounded by her loving family. As per her wishes, there will be no public calling hours. A graveside service will be held 12:00 P.M. Sunday, (May 28, 2017) at St. Mary’s Cemetery with Deacon Daniel B. McGrath officiating. Friends and family are welcome to attend A Celebration of Life immediately following the burial at the Waddington American Legion Post #420. Sandra was born to the late William and Phyllis (Layo) Mahar on March 3, 1958 in Syracuse, NY. Sandra was previously worked at Thousand Island Bus Lines and was presently employed at Austin-Layng Glass & Radiator for nearly 25 years as a receptionist. She enjoyed watching football and was an avid NY Giants fan who enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by her aunt and uncle Mathew and Jane Layo of Waddington, a sister in-law Davalene Layng of Ogdensburg, NY nieces, nephews and several cousins. Sandra also leaves behind her beloved cat, “Eli”. Sandra was predeceased by her brother Daniel F. Mahar, in 2013.

Lorene Davey

LOWVILLE — Lorene Olson Davey, born to the late Conradine Rose Mackenzie and Fredrick W. Olson on March 18, 1954 in Jacksonville, Florida, passed peacefully to rest May 17, 2017 in her home.

After graduating from Mayville Central School in 1972, Lorene earned an Associates in Applied Science in Nursing from Jamestown Community College. Since receiving her degree, Lorene’s passion for helping people and love for her work as a nurse stayed with her throughout her life and only grew stronger as time went on. Lorene relocated to Pensacola, Florida to continue working as a nurse, and this was where she met her husband, Derek MacLean Davey. They were wed March 31, 1979 on Naval Air Station Pensacola. Here, her late son, Seamus MacLean Davey was born. Derek’s military duty led them to Washington, North Carolina, and finally back to New York, where they raised their four children and where she continued working as an RN until her retirement in April of 2017, after graduating Summa Cum Laude from SUNY Utica with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, 2011. Lorene was constantly striving to perfect her craft in her field as she attended many seminars, courses, and even a trip to Brazil during her time at SUNY Utica.

Lorene lived for her children and eventually her five grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than traveling to see them around the world, whenever possible. She became a Gold Star Mother in 2005. She was born to be a grandmother and looked forward to her retirement, where she could be a Mimi full-time.

Lorene’s devotion to helping others, to aiding and supporting children, to arduously living and maintaining an active lifestyle was all on display throughout her life with her involvement in lifeguarding, boy scouts and girl scouts, teaching Sunday School and confirmation classes, Habitat for Humanity, and coaching numerous Odyssey of the Mind teams. Lorene enjoyed running and swimming, leading her to complete many triathlons into her 50s. She was an active advocate of Organ Donation and spread awareness throughout all of northern and central NYS.

Lorene is survived by her husband Derek M. Davey of Lowville, their children Shiloh (Ryan) Mackey, Brittany (Andreas) Bedernik, and Austin (Jamie) Byrd, their grandchildren, Piper and Evelyn Mackey, Cullen and Alexander Bedernik, and Maddox Byrd, Step-mother Terry Olson, Mother-in-law Marget Davey, numerous siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews, and an amazing extended family. Lorene had a love and energy in life that touched everyone who was around her.

CROGHAN, NY ~ Shirley A. Briot, 70, of 7088 Kirschnerville Rd., Croghan, died peacefully and surrounded by her family on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, where she had been admitted on Sunday.

Shirley was born on August 13, 1946 in Lowville, NY, a daughter of Winifred A. and Aletha Crouse Haggerty. She attended a small country schoolhouse on the Number 3 Road in Lowville until the 5th grade when she transferred to Lowville Academy from where she graduated in 1964.

She married Thomas H. Briot on February 27, 1965 at St. Stephen’s Church in Croghan. She and her husband began their family in Castorland, before moving to Croghan where they continued to raise their five daughters.

In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Shirley also worked at the Five and Dime Store in Lowville before moving on to work at Beaverite Products, Inc., in Beaver Falls until the company went on strike in the 1980’s.

Surviving in addition to her loving husband, Tom, of 52 years, are her five daughters, Amy (John) O’Connor, of Raleigh, NC, Carol Camporeale, Sheri (Brian) Staie, Rhonda Hulbert and Sandy (David) Meyer, all of Croghan; nineteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; her siblings, Patricia (Paul) Wheeler, of Copenhagen NY, Wayne (Ann) Haggerty, of Conover, NC, Mary (Olin) Lyndaker, of Copenhagen, NY, Larry Haggerty, of Lowville and Jim (Deanna) Haggerty, of Concord, NC, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Winifred W. Haggerty, and nephews Michael Haggerty and Todd Beyer.

Shirley enjoyed visiting casinos, camping with her family and search-a-word puzzles. She always loved hosting family gatherings with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan, with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred, Pastor of St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan, officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.

Calling hours will be on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of her service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen’s Parish Relations or to the Beaver River Memorial Post 1663 American Legion Auxiliary, both in Croghan.

All are welcome to attend a “get together” following her service at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Dave Meyer, 7106 Kirschnerville Rd., Croghan.

CHAUMONT, NY- Eugene Vincent Smith, 77, of Root Road in Chaumont, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the SUNY Upstate Hospital.

Arrangements have been entrusted to North Country Cremation Service, a subsidiary of Cleveland Funeral Home Inc. of Watertown, NY.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Chaumont Presbyterian church followed by a reception.

Eugene was born on January 8, 1940 in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Thomas and Alma Smith. He served in the Marines 1957-1959 and the Army 1959-1962. Eugene graduated from JCC in 1968 and from University of Buffalo in 1970.

He married his wife of 56 years, Ethelmarie Lear on November 13, 1960. Eugene worked at Frinks in Clayton, was a substitute teacher at LaFargeville and Lyme Central Schools, and was self-employed with his antique business, Smitty’s Antiques from 1972 to present. He was a long time member of the Masonic lodge, Lions Club, and the Chaumont Presbyterian church.

Along with his wife, Eugene is survived by two children; Vincent (Brenda) Smith, California, and Richelle (Jeffrey) David, Chaumont; a brother, Albert Smith, New Jersey; six grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eugene is predeceased by his three brothers; Thomas Smith, Donald Smith, and Vincent Smith.

CARTHAGE – Kenneth A. Hickox, 67, of Second Road, Carthage, died Wednesday evening, May 24, 2017, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Utica.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. Calling hours will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. on Saturday, prior to the memorial service, at the funeral home. Burial will be at the family’s convenience in Hillside Cemetery, West Carthage. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Lung Association or to the American Heart Association.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth A, Hickox and his fianceé, Tammy Rushlow of Carthage; a brother and sister-in-law, Norman Jr. and Carolyn Hickox of Martville, NY; a sister, Carol Hammond of Carthage; a step-sister and her husband, Linda and Ralph Bush of Croghan; an aunt; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his good friends, Pat and Sylvia Ritz. Mr. Hickox is predeceased by his parents, his step-mother, Patricia D. Hickox; and two sisters, Florence and Rose Hickox, who died at birth.

Kenneth was born on October 30, 1949 in Lowville, a son of the late Norman W. and Dorothy R. Marvin Hickox. He attended Beaver River Central School, and then went to work, working in various positions. Kenneth began work for Boise Cascade in Beaver Falls, and worked there for 27 years, until the mill closed. The remainder of his career he spent working for Kraft Foods in Lowville, until his retirement due to a disability. On March 28, 1970, he married Gloria Mae Schermerhorn in Carthage. The marriage ended in divorce.

Kenneth enjoyed camping, tinkering on vehicles, and had an extreme love for cats. He enjoyed playing lottery scratch off tickets.

Rita Marie Coseo Lapointe, a former Registered Nurse and mother of six, died on Thursday, December 29th, 2016 in Boston, MA after a brief illness. She was 100. Mrs. Lapointe was born in 1916 in Watertown to Frances Alice Donoghue Coseo of Gananoque, Ontario and Frank Peter Coseo of Watertown. She was predeceased by three brothers, Robert (Bob), Harold, and the Rev. Msgr. Gordon Coseo. She graduated from Holy Family high school at the age of 16, where, despite her diminutive stature, she played center on the girls’ basketball team. Ms. Coseo completed her nursing training at the old Mercy Hospital in 1936. During her rounds as a nurse at Mercy, she met and later married Lawrence Anthony Lapointe, originally of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, in 1938. Together, they raised six children, all of whom attended Holy Family elementary and Immaculate Heart Academy, renamed Immaculate Heart Central high school. The family spent their summers at a camp initially built by her father-in-law on the then unpopulated shore of Henderson Bay near Sackets Harbor.

Mrs. Lapointe became the Assistant Director of Nursing at Madonna Home and retired in 1978. She and her family were active members of Holy Family Parish in Watertown and St. Andrew Church in Sackets Harbor. Rita and Larry purchased and renovated a home on Academy Street in Watertown in 1938 where they lived until 1978. Upon their retirements from Madonna Home and the New York Life Insurance Company, respectively, Rita and Larry relocated to Ocean Springs, MS. Mr. Lapointe predeceased his wife in 1991.

Mrs. Lapointe relocated to Vero Beach, FL in 1999 where she lived until 2009 when she moved to the Boston area. She is survived by her six children: Yvonne Cevello (Pleasanton, CA), Joseph Lapointe (Newcomb, NY), Mary Alice Lapointe (Boston, MA), David Lapointe (Ocean Springs, MS), Stephen Lapointe (Vero Beach, FL) and Jane Lapointe (Portland, OR); 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Goddard House, Olmsted Neighborhood, 165 Chestnut Street, Brookline, MA 02445 where Rita received loving care during the last years of her life. Family and friends will assemble for an interment at Glennwood Cemetery at 11AM on June 10th followed by an informal luncheon for family and friends at The Hilton Garden Inn in Watertown.

Mr. McDonald passed away on his 60th wedding anniversary, Thursday, May, 25, 2017 at the University of Vermont Medical Center. A complete obituary will be available.
