Betty A. Bauer, 91, entered into eternal rest with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, on March 16, 2017 while in
Florida. She is survived by Norman, faithful and devoted husband of 68 yrs.; loving sons David and Thomas; sisters
Martha Lenahan and Jean Decker; nieces Linda Wurme, Nancy Jurik, Sheryl Bauer, Tina Lenahan and Colleen Sperduto;
several great-nephews and a great-niece.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Betty graduated with honors from Coughlin High School, earned her RN Certificate at the Park
Avenue School of Nursing in Rochester, NY, and was a nurse for over 35 years in that area. She and Norman were married
at Lake Avenue Baptist Church in Rochester, and raised their family in Irondequoit.
When they weren’t camping in the Adirondacks during summer, Betty and her family were at their lakeside cottage in Three Mile Bay, working on its transformation into an eventual retirement abode; they also enjoyed boating, fishing and waterskiing.
Betty and Norman loved travel. Annual drives to Florida and Pennsylvania, trips to Hawaii, and cruises to the Caribbean, Panama, Mexico, Columbia, Bahamas, Alaska and Europe were only some of their many journeys together. When they lived in Arizona for 7 years, they drove throughout the American West and into Mexico. Every chance they had, they
would drive from Phoenix to Three Mile Bay, where they retired in 1985, and spent winters in Naples, Florida.
As a seasonal North Country resident, Betty enjoyed gardening and area wildlife. Each day, blue heron, mallards, Canada geese, hummingbirds and songbirds would visit her. Red-tailed hawks, owls, mergansers and ospreys, mute swans, deer, mink, muskrats, rabbits and red fox would also provide surprises.
Betty’s humble, kindhearted, gentle nature were a joy to all who met her. She was always grateful for her life, and never complained. Her focus was on others, not on herself. At Chaumont Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon, she readily lent others her helping hand, visiting elderly church members shut-in at home, and friends and neighbors in hospitals and nursing homes. She supported many church events, and contributed to the Hardy Foodshelf and many other charities.
Her abiding faith in God and her unwavering belief in Jesus were her Rock and Foundation. She read her Bible and Devo-
tionals daily, and took extra time for prayer. Her example of a faithful servant of God will forever remain in her
family’s heart.
On Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM, Betty’s memorial service will be held at Chaumont Presbyterian Church,
Main Street, Chaumont, NY, with Reverend Rachel Roberts officiating.
Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to Chaumont Presbyterian Church or to the Hardy Foodshelf at the church.
