Daryl L. Monroe

MASSENA – Mr. Daryl L. Monroe, 54, of 171 Carey Road, tragically passed away Saturday afternoon, June 24, 2017 at Massena Memorial Hospital from the injuries he sustained following a motorcycle accident.

Daryl was born October 24, 1962 in Potsdam the son of the late Beverly Ann (Colton) Monroe and Wayne E. Monroe and attended Potsdam High School. On October 29, 2005, he married Pamela A. Miller at the Massena Town Hall.

Daryl was a service technician for Monroe Muffler in Potsdam. He also worked for a time in the maintenance department from Massena Central School and with various construction companies. He was a past member of the Norfolk Fire Department, serving with them for over 15 years. Daryl was an avid CB Radio operator, followed NASCAR, and enjoyed going to the stock car races at Mohawk International Speedway with his son, Blayne. He took great pride in maintaining his lawn and cherished the time he spent with his grandbabies and was anxiously awaiting the birth of two more.

Daryl is survived by his wife, Pam; his children, Blayne Monroe and his fiancé, Schiler Ashley of Madrid; Keith Patrick and his wife, Shena; Andrea Messier and her companion, Joe Konkowski; Brandon Patrick and his wife, Jen, Alex Prashaw and his wife, Kat; and Taylor Prashaw and her companion, Mace Closs, all of Massena; his precious grandchildren, Zackary, Michael, Jado, Aaliyah Bear, Cayden, Ben, Kalleigh, and Baby Patrick, and his father, Wayne of Norfolk. He is also survived by his brothers and their wives, Carl and Naomi Monroe and Greg and Mary Monroe, all of Norfolk; his sister, Sherry Monroe and her companion, Mike Maguire of Massena; his sister-in-law, Tracy and Jerry Morin of Massena; his aunts and uncles, Reggie and Valerie Monroe, Sonny and Cheryl Colton, James and Betty Whitmarsh, and Linda and Frederick Markell; and many nieces and nephews including, Jason Monroe, Lacey Thompson and her son, Owen.

In addition to his mother, Daryl was predeceased by two brothers, Timothy and Scott Monroe.

Friends may call Wednesday 4-6:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where the members of the Norfolk Fire Department will conduct a fireman’s memorial ritual at 6:00 PM. A celebration of his life will follow at the AMVETS Post #4, Andrews Street.

CARTHAGE – Angeline (Angie) M. Cronk, 79, passed on Monday June 26, 2017, at the Country Manor Nursing Home where she had been a resident. She was surrounded by her loving husband and family.

She is survived by her husband, David; her children, Mrs. Joseph (Michele) Prince of Lowville; David Cronk Jr., Baldwinsville; Mrs. Dale (Mary) Spencer and Mrs. Darren (Lori) Ashcroft of Carthage; one brother, Frank Cassoni, Carthage; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Angie was born on May 21, 1938 in Deferiet, NY, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna (Gerace) Cassoni. She attended school and graduated from the Augustinian Academy and the Watertown School of Commerce in 1955. On November 30, 1957, she married David A. Cronk at St. Ritas Catholic Church in Deferiet. She worked as a book keeper at the Marine Midland Bank in Carthage and then waitressed at the Country Kitchen for more than 30 years.

She loved to laugh and be around people. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, putting puzzles together, cooking and doing things for others. Angie was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and she especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Fly high with the Angels mom. Until we meet again …..

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 30th at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 500 State St., Carthage, with Deacon Richard Stabb officiating. Calling hours will be held at the Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM. Burial will be at a later date. Nancy L. Kennedy, age 73, resident of Pulaski since 2006, formerly of Williamstown, passed away Tuesday at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. Nancy was born May 7, 1944 in Oneida the daughter of Thomas and Frances Halliday Kennedy.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas (Rhonda) Farley of Westdale and Christopher (Beth) Farley of Massena, three daughters Suzanne (Peter Taber) Farley of Maine, Sandra (David) Schad of East Syracuse and Shari Platt of Liverpool, one brother Jon Kennedy of Westdale, one sister, Rebecca Kennedy of Pulaski, brother in-law, James Eldred of Williamstown, 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, June 23rd, at the Riverside Cemetery, Altmar. Arrangements by Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, NY 13142.

ST. REGIS FALLS - Madge S. Arcadi, 96, passed away peacefully Thursday evening, June 22, 2017, at the Alice Center with her family at her side. Arrangements are entrusted with the Hammill Funeral Home in St. Regis Falls.

Madge was born on November 16, 1920 in Dickinson, daughter of the late William and Effie (LaVoy) Hewitt. She married Peter D. Arcadi in Massena on May 20, 1939, sharing their love for 58 years. Madge was a waitress at various restaurants in the North Country, worked at ALCOA in Massena as a Timekeeper; operated Arcadi’s Restaurant/Bar for 35 years with her husband; and was a Rural Letter Carrier in St. Regis Falls for many years. She was a member of the Rural Letter Carrier‘s Association, McCavanaugh Pond Club and the St Regis Falls Sportsmen’s Club. Madge was a kind, generous person, with unmatched devotion to being a homemaker and had an unending love for her family.

Surviving Madge are her children; Darleen and Lee Roscoe of Dickinson Center, Harry Arcadi of St. Regis Falls, Donna Boulds of St. Regis Falls, Frederick Arcadi of Syracuse, Peter J. and Susan Arcadi of St. Regis Falls and Frank V. and Mary Arcadi of St. Regis Falls, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter, her parents, sisters: Florence Bennet, Shirley Trim, and Mayfred Phelps, brothers: Earl, Clifford, and Herbert Mashtare, Donald, and Dewey Hewitt, daughter-in-law, Janice Arcadi and son-in-law, Lawrence Boulds.

Private services will be held at the convenience of her family.

Great Bend-- Edith Leddy, 89, of 32778 NYS Rt. # 3, died peacefully Sunday morning, June 25, 2017 at her home.

Edith was born June 22, 1928 in Theresa, the daughter of the late James W. and Lillian M. (Bacon) McAvoy. She attended school in Evans Mills. She married Lawrence E. Leddy on January 26, 1952 at the Faith Chapel Church in Watertown. Lawrence, a former civil engineer for the NYS Dept. of Transportation died on February 21, 2010. Together with her daughter Cindy, they operated C & E Toning Salon in Felts Mills for several years. Edith loved gardening and taking care of her beautiful flowers and spending time with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Black River.

Edith was one of the happiest, most thankful ladies around and she was often found telling people she has lived such a great life, she has done more in this life than she ever dreamed she would, and is very blessed to have her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in her everyday life. Her honesty, her loyalty to her family, and her optimistic personality will be greatly missed every day.

She is survived by a son, Patrick A. Leddy of San Antonio, TX and a daughter: Cindy S. Thomas and her longtime companion, Raymond Hall of Great Bend, 7 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren, a sister (her best friend) Flossie Edmonds of Tylerville and numerous nieces and nephews. 2 granddaughters Andrea Leddy and Angel Thomas, 3 sisters, Mary Comins, Beatrice Burnup and Pauline McAvoy and 4 brothers, Glen, William, Paul and John McAvoy all died previously.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 29 at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Great Bend. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4-7pm at the funeral home.

Charles F. Zeltwanger Jr., 47, of Sackets Harbor, passed away June 24th following a heart attack.

Charlie was born December 19, 1969 in Watertown, the son of Charles and Nancy Glowaski Zeltwanger Sr. A graduate of General Brown Central School he also graduated from the Watertown Police Academy and worked as a Corrections Officer at the Jefferson County Jail. He retired and started working as a Police Officer for the Village of Sackets Harbor on a part-time basis.

Charlie married Stephany R. Travis on December 13, 2008 at St. Andrews Church, Sackets Harbor.

He was a member of the Sons of The American Legion in Sackets Harbor, Dexter Masonic Lodge #1072. He loved riding his motorcycle, camping and barbecuing. He was an avid Boston Bruins Hockey Fan and watching his son play hockey. He was really enjoying retirement.

He is survived by his wife Stephany, his son Bryce DaFoe, his mother Nancy Zeltwanger of Dexter. He has two sisters: Dawn Cote of Dexter, Julie (Richard) Munk of Glen Park, a niece Teasha Cote and nephews: Bryan Munk and Eric Munk and great nephew Dylan Munk. His in-laws are Mark and Rachel Travis, sister-in-law Krystal Rice and brother-in-law Marc Travis. He also has Aunts and Uncles surviving.

He was predeceased by his father Charles F. Zeltwanger Sr. on February 18th, 2017.

A Memorial Mass will be held Monday July 2 at Immaculate Conception Church, Brownville at 11:00 am. Calling hours will be Sunday July 1st with Police and Fireman from 2-3 PM and Public from 3-4 and 7-9 PM. A Masonic service will be conducted at 8:00 PM. Following the Funeral Mass a Celebration of Life will be held at the Sackets Harbor American Legion.

Alexandria Bay - Paul W. Bogenschutz, 78, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017 at Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown, where he had resided for the past few years.

He was born October 29, 1938 in Clayton, son of Francis B. and Leta Wright Bogenschutz. He was educated in both Clayton and Evans Mills schools. A marriage to Mary Ward, ended in divorce.

Paul was a truck driver for Hollis Wood Trucking in Clayton. He was involved with Clayton, Fisher’s Landing, Pamelia, Evans Mills, and Philadelphia Fire Departments.

He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Spink, Central Square, NY, three brothers and their wives, Ross and Velma, Lakeland, FL, Zane and Helen, Redwood, and John and Jane, Boyertown, PA, two grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A sister, Jeannine Ruggiero, predeceased him.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 28th from 7-9 pm at the Costello Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday at 11amat the funeral home, with Fr. Douglas Comstock, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Cyril’s Cemetery.

The memorial service for Reta E. Armstrong will be 1:00 on Wednesday, June 28th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. A calling hour will precede the service from 12-1 at the funeral home.

Reta passed away Saturday, June 24th at the Samaritan Keep Home. She was 91 years old.

Born in Streetsville, Ontario April 11, 1926 Reta was a daughter to LaVerne and Mabel Hunter Whaley. Reta was a homecare provider in the Watertown area for several years.

Reta enjoyed bowling, listening to music, watching TV and her time spent at the pool doing water aerobics.

Surviving are her children, Bonnie Taylor (Richard) Rainone, NJ; Deborah Taylor (Martin) Swanson, Liverpool; Sandra L. Armstrong-Hill and her fiancé Mark Bintliff, Watertown; 7 grandchildren, Rebecca and Meghan Rainone, Joshua and Julie Swanson, Seth, Alyssa and Nathan Hill, 1 great-grandson, Damon Swanson and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she is predeceased by her brother, Carmen Whaley.

Domenic Richard Rizzo, 77, passed away, June 23, 2017, in Boca Raton, FL after a long battle with dementia.

Born and raised In Watertown, NY, the son of Nelson “James” and Mary Rizzo. He worked on the Rizzo farm along with his five siblings. One of his favorite memories was delivering fresh vegetables to Watertown’s orphanage. Domenic graduated from Watertown High School in 1957 as a decorated wrestler for the Cyclones. Soon after graduation, he served in the United States Navy, stationed in Hawaii. He served as a Morse Code operator and was a member of the Navy wrestling team. One of his proudest Navy wrestling career accomplishments was qualifying for the USA Olympic wrestling team trials.

Married Donna Joyner , October 15, 1966, raised three children in Watertown NY where he created a National Real Estate agency franchise and was parishioner of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

In 1980, Domenic relocated his family to Boca Raton, FL, where he continued his real estate career. Well respected, he received over 80 professional awards and accreditations including “Person of the Year” by the Real Estate Directors of Florida in 1994 and the Gold Coast Builders Association Sales Director of the Year in 1993. He authored numerous sales and training manuals over his professional career. He served Cadillac Fairview, Radice Corporation, Lexington Homes, UDC Homes, and Engle Homes primarily as Marketing and Sales Director. He proudly launched his own Real Estate Agency, Rimada Reality, as Owner and President in 2003.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Rizzo; his son, Peter Rizzo and wife, April Rizzo; grandsons Max Domenic Rizzo and Nathaniel James Rizzo, step granddaughters Bailey Brite, and Brooklin Brite, daughter Jennifer Bailey and husband Robert Bailey; his son Marc Rizzo.

His charisma, limitless energy and optimism were infectious. Domenic was a loving husband and caring father. He considered anyone who worked with him or knew him part of his family. He will be truly missed.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2017 , from 3pm to 7pm, at Babione - Kraeer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Federal Hwy, Boca Raton , FL 33432. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 10:00am, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 21689 Toledo Rd, Boca Raton, FL 33433.

She enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, camping, gardening, canning, baking, spending time with her grandkids, and was known for writing poems. She is survived by her children Sandra O’Mara, Elizabeth and Randy Abar, and Theron Pankey, her grandchildren Mersaydie, Micheal, Maison, Makyle, Markeyce, Marrionna, Rebecca, William, Ryan, Austin, Theron, Dillian, Tylor, Caroline, and Michael. Evelyn is also survived by her siblings Michelle and John Walrath, Theron “Bud” and Vicki Bice, Nelson and Nancy Bice, and Russell Bice, many nieces and nephews. She was a daughter to Sonny and Sally, grandmother to Benjamin Pankey and Jasmine Pankey, sister to Kelvin Bice Sr., aunt to Natalie Bice, who have all passed away before her.

Burton H. Peabody, 94, of 464 County Route 21, Hermon, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family, while under the care of St. Lawrence Valley Hospice. Burton was born May 30, 1923 in Pitcairn, the son of the late Harvey I. and Ida (Fenton) Peabody. He attended Hermon area schools and resided in the Hermon area most of his life.

Burton was a Sergeant in the US Army from January 1, 1943 until January 7, 1946. He served in the Battles and Campaigns in Luzon, New Guinea and Southern Philippines, as a squad leader. He was decorated with the WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Philip Liberation Ribbon.

He worked on farms in Brasie Corners and Copenhagen. He also worked at Clifton Mines; Alcoa; Sissonville Paper Mill; and construction for a contractor at J&L Steel for 12 years. He ran a dairy farm with his wife Dorothy and had his own top soil and gravel business until his retirement.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, cutting wood and traveling and he formed the Grasse Pond Hunting Club in 1953.

On April 7, 1948 he married Dorothy Bacon in Potsdam, with Rev. Paul Roy officiating.

Burton is survived by his wife Dorothy, three sons, Michael Peabody and wife Marilyn of Hermon; David Peabody and wife Sharon of Clare; and Bruce Peabody and wife Jackie of Brewerton; a daughter Judy of Leray, VA, 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Burton is predeceased by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Michael Ostrander, grandsons, Michael Ostrander Jr and Harvey Peabody, two brothers, Donald and Stanley and a sister, Hazel Burtis.

A graveside service for Berton will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Hermon Cemetery. An informal gathering will be held at Burton’s home following the service.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley; 6805 US Highway 11; Potsdam, New York 13676.

Janet R. Bettinger, age 93, resident of Pulaski for the past 75 years, passed away Monday at her home. Janet was born February 17, 1924 in Watertown, the daughter of Roy and Iola Taylor Towne. She graduated from Belleville Union Academy. Janet married Howard “Bill” Bettinger on June 6, 1942 and he passed away March 23, 1988.

Surviving are three daughters Karyl Moyer of Port Ontario, Rebecca (Frank) Artessa of Brattleboro, Abby (Steven) Colvin of Sandy Pond, three sons, Michael (Christine) Bettinger of Brewerton, Patrick (Carolyn) Bettinger of Boylston and David (Janelle) Bettinger of Sandy Pond, two brothers, William Towne of Lockport and Arthur Towne of Omaha, NE, 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at the Foster -Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park St., Pulaski, with burial in Ellisburg Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ellisburg Rural Cemetery, PO Box Ellisburg NY 13636.
