Terence Fortune
Terence J. Fortune, age 70, passed away from complications of Parkinson’s disease at Eden Homes’ Greyswood House, an assisted living home, in Bethesda, Maryland, on July 16, 2017.
Terry was born in Watertown, New York on December 27, 1946, to Phillip R. and Margaret Burns Fortune. He attended school in Watertown, and Plattsburgh, New York. He graduated from Georgetown University in 1969 and received a J.D. from Georgetown in 1974. After practicing law with Clifford, Warnke, Glass, McIlwaine & Finney in Washington, D.C., he joined the Legal Adviser’s office at the Department of State in 1977. After working in various departments in that office for six years, he joined the Washington office of Paul, Weiss, Wharton, Rifkind and Garrison, and became a partner in the firm in 1986.
Although Terry loved the law and delighted in legal problem solving, he lived for time with his family and friends. Excursions with his beloved daughters, cold mornings spent chopping firewood with his brothers and best friend John Kovin, road trips to Campbell’s Point, New York for the opening day of Lake Ontario’s fishing season or for a family vacation—these were the days that mattered most to Terry. He loved to read history, fiction, and especially the works of P. G. Wodehouse—whose antic spirit and masterful command of language sustained Terry through any and all adversities. Terry made friends easily, and kept them close. Throughout his life beloved friends gathered around him regularly to give and receive love and good cheer.
Terry is survived by his wife of 32 years, Brandon; two daughters, Martha (Andrew Frankenberger) and Betsy; and one grandson, Leo Terence Frankenberger. He is also survived by his sister Joanne Fortune and brothers Chris and Steve Fortune, as well as his first wife, Cynthia Starling. He was predeceased by his brother David Fortune.

A memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Bethesda, MD at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 16. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that any memorials be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation or to S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat) in Washington, D.C.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday (August 3, 2017) from 4:00 – 7:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Anne Marie passed away on August 1, 2017 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
She is survived by two older brothers: the Reverend Terrence (Terry) R. Patterson of Potsdam and James (Sandra) Patterson of Ocklawaha, FL; a sister-in-law Marlene (Delduchetto) Patterson, along with a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Faith Marie who died in infancy, a brother Kenneth F. who passed away in 2016, followed by the passing of her beloved dog, Daisy Mae.
Anne Marie was born on August 8, 1948 in Ogdensburg, N.Y. to Wilbert J. Patterson and Marie (LaVenture) Patterson at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital. She lived her entire life in Ogdensburg, and received her early education at Bishop Conroy Memorial School and St. Mary’s Academy. Following her graduation from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1965, she attended Mater Dei College and received her B.A. Degree from SUNY Potsdam and later her Masters in 1972. She was a certified elementary school teacher by the State of New York, and following her graduation from college, she began her teaching career at OFA, teaching third grade, and transferring to the Lincoln elementary school the following year. She later transferred to the Kennedy elementary school where she remained until she retired in 2008 after 33 years, entirely devoted to teaching third grade in the Ogdensburg City School District. In addition to her duties as a “Master Teacher”, she was also well known by the parents and children for the numerous school programs and special events that enhanced the school curriculum and contributed to the development of the artistic and musical abilities of her students. She was always affectionately known as “Miss Patterson” to her many students and their parents.
Anne Marie never married.
For many years she was a representative for the teacher’s union and negotiating committees. It was largely through her efforts that a “Guard of Honor” was provided for deceased teachers at their respective funerals…. for which she was especially proud and often participated in.
At one time she was an active member of the “Friends of the Library” in their roll organizing the annual book fair, and providing funding for the Ogdensburg Public Library.
As a teenager, she often sang for the morning weekday Masses and funerals at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Indicative of her generation, she loved music, liked to dance and was an avid Elvis Presley fan throughout her, collecting many of his records, albums and memorabilia.
The family wishes to thank all those who helped or assisted Anne Marie during her illness in any way. A special thank you to Dr. Jaitly, Dr. Thompson, Dr. Srivastava together with the nurses, aids and orderlies at the hospital and public health. Also a special thank you to her neighbor, Eric Ashley, who was a great assistance to her in the last years of her life…. helping with household chores, yard work and being there in any time of need. The family is grateful to one and all.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be sent to the Heritage Fund of St. Mary’s Cathedral, The Potsdam Humane Society from where she adopted her beloved dog, Daisy Mae or the American Cancer Society. Condolences can also be shared online at www.foxandmurrayfuneralhome.com.
