Robert Barber

Robert Harrison Barber passed away peacefully on July 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving friends at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, CA. The memorial will be held on August 10, 2017 at 10am in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Colma, CA. Rob was born December 7th, 1963 in Watertown, NY to Wayne and Patricia Barber.

Rob graduated from Immaculate Heart Central High School in 1982 and continued his education at Cornell University. In 1986 he graduated with a BS in Applied and Engineering Physics and in 1987, an MS in Electrical Engineering. After graduating from Cornell, he headed out west to Fremont, California where he started work as an engineer at National Semiconductor. At night, he took courses at San Jose State University and graduated with an MBA. His career led him to Linear Technology, where he served as Director of US Operations, introducing efficient manufacturing processes such as 5S and TPM, and boosting production at its fabrication plants, before retiring.

Rob had many accomplishments and hobbies. He founded a yoga studio, Breathe Together Yoga, in Los Gatos CA, and offered free classes to cancer patients as a way to give back to the community. He was an entrepreneur and acted as an angel investor to a start-up. His hobbies included flying gliders, sailing, scuba diving, photography, music, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Rob continued to live life to the fullest while battling a rare genetic disease with grace, dignity, determination, and strength. He is preceded in death by his mother, Pat, and wife, Melissa Wong. Rob is survived by his father, Wayne Barber of Watertown, NY, and his sister, Leanne Barber of Nashua, NH.

The Robert H. Barber Memorial Fund has been set up at Mayo Clinic. The family requests that memorial gifts be designated to Amyloidosis Research. George Hasner

George P. Hasner, 70 of State Park Road, Three Mile Bay, passed away Friday evening August 11th at Samaritan Medical Center.

George was born July 15, 1947 in Watertown, the son of George H. and Dorothy Paul Hasner. He graduated from General Brown High School.

George was a Civil Engineer working for the NYSDOT in Watertown and following retirement continued to work as a consultant until his health failed him.

He was a member of the Watertown Elks Club, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf. George married Carol A. Harvey on January 31, 1970.

He is survived by his wife Carol and a daughter Michele M (James) Griffin of Bensalem, PA. He also has grandchildren including: Cameron P. Hasner, Chelsea A. Hasner, Cordell W. Smith, and Cheyenne P. Smith. Great grandchildren include Jayden T. Hasner, Finleigh G. Hasner and Kinsley R. Hasner. His brother Alvin Hasner of Dexter also survives. A poem provided by the family:

I feel a warmth around me like your presence is so near. And I close my eyes to visualize your face when you were here. I endure the times we spent together and they are locked inside my heart.

For as long as I have those memories we will never be apart. Even though we cannot speak anymore my voice is always there. Because every night before I sleep I have you in my prayer.

Bernard Peters

Bernard J. Peters, 93, of Kuntz Rd., Glenfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Connie Peters, Pine Grove Rd., in the Town of Watson, where he was under their loving care.

Born February 12, 1924, in Martinsburg, NY, a son of Walter F. and Ordilla Flint Peters, he was educated in Martinsburg country schools.

A decorated World War II veteran, he entered the US Army on March 4, 1943, and served with Company “B”, 187th Glider Infantry at Luzon, New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart medal and Bronze Star, among others, before being honorably discharged as a Private First Class on December 6, 1945, from Fort Dix, NJ.

He married Dorris M. Ellis on September 17, 1950 in Glenfield, NY. Mrs. Peters died on August 24, 2007.

Bernard was a lifetime employee of the former Georgia Pacific Paper Company, which later became the Lyons Falls Pulp & Paper Company in Lyons Falls. He retired as their Sanitation Engineer in 1984 after 34 years of service.

He was a charter member of the Lowville VFW, a member of the Lowville American Legion, and held former memberships in the Paper Makers Union, Big Twenty Club in Harrisville, and Lake Bonaparte Conservation Club.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and painting.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Terry B. and Connie Peters, Glenfield; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Charles McCoy, of Bridgeport, NY; a brother, Nelson Peters, of Glenfield, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his loving wife, Dorris, of 56+ years, he was predeceased by his daughter, Doreen E. McCoy, who died in 2016, two brothers, Milton and Darwin Peters, and two sisters, Eunice Ford and Buelah Jantzi.

There will be no calling hours or funeral services. Per his wishes, his body was given as an anatomical gift donation to SUNY Medical University, Syracuse.

Antwerp – Francis “Frank” W. Pierce, 91, passed away on Friday August 11, 2017, at the Lewis County General Hospital Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the last 6 years, before that he lived in Antwerp, New York. He is survived by his loving companion of 36 years Joanne LaRue, along with several nieces and nephews.

Frank was born on July 2, 1926 in the Town of Wilna, NY, a son of the late George and Geraldine (Holmes) Pierce. He graduated from Carthage Central School. He served in the U.S. Army as pilot during WWII. Frank worked as a Forrest Ranger in Alaska, and then made his way back to Upstate New York to work for the United States Government at Fort Drum as an Entomologist, where he retired.

He was a lifelong and avid outdoorsman and a volunteer fireman. There will be no calling hours. A burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Charles A. Trump 90, of Eustis, passed away on August 6, 2017. June M. Trump 83, of Eustis, passed away on August 10, 2017. Both Mr. and Mrs. Trump were former residents of Pulaski, New York. Mr. Trump was a retired electrician for Allied Chemical Company and a Veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mrs. Trump was a retired beautician. LeRoy/Bergen ~ Mr. William B. Scott, Jr., age 82, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 of lymphoma at Crossroads Hospice Care Home in Batavia. He was born May 15, 1935, the only son of William B. Scott, Sr. and Maralee Stedman Scott. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan Cleveland Scott of LeRoy/Bergen, sons William B. Scott III and Matthew B. Scott of Batavia, NY; and David W. Scott of Fairport, NY; daughter Suzanne Scott of Chicago, IL; and grandchildren Nathan J. Scott and Julia R. Scott of Fairport, NY; and Brandon Scott of Darien Center, NY. Mr. Scott is also survived by extended family across the greater Rochester and Watertown/Sackets Harbor areas. Bill “Scotty” Scott grew up in Forestport, NY; started his family in Utica, NY where all four children were born; and, settled finally in LeRoy, NY. He held a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University, and served in the ROTC and US Army Reserve Signal Corps. During his career, he worked with General Electric, Sylvania GTE, Transmation, and ultimately retired from Eastman Kodak. Husband, Dad, Grampa, Uncle, and In-Law - he will be sadly missed by both his family and friends.

Porteous on August 17, 1947 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ogdensburg with Rev. Merrill Updyke officiating. Helen assisted her husband in the operation of the State Farm Insurance Business for many years. She was a member of the Scotch Presbyterian Church in Chipman and the Waddington Chapter of Order of Eastern Stars and enjoyed flower gardening, camping, traveling, sewing, word search puzzles and spending time with her family. A Memorial Mass for Ernest F. King will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Mark Reilly as celebrant. Burial will take place immediately following the service in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.

“Ernie” King, 85, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away on January 16, 2017. He was born July 27, 1931 in Chelsea, MA, the son of Ernest E. and Irene King. He attended schools in the Boston area and enlisted in Military Service in July 1948 at Lynn MA. Upon completion of basic training at Fort Bragg, NC, he was assigned to duty in Japan and Korea. He served with the 24th Infantry Division 21st Infantry Regiment which was the first regiment to enter Korea on July 1, 1950.

He returned to the US and while stationed at Camp Drum he met the love of his life, Ruth Prashaw of Massena NY. They were married on September 13, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church and resided for a short time in Watertown. In 1953 Sgt. King was assigned a tour of duty in Europe. Ruth joined him in Bitburg, Germany later that year. He spent three years in Germany and France. Upon their return to the US in 1956, they located in Massena and he terminated his active duty in the service, remaining a member of the Army Reserve Unit in Massena and later attaining the rank of First Sgt. He retired from the military in 1972, after 24 years of dedicated service to the US Army and US Army Reserves. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with one Silver Star, Army Occupational Medal and other decorations.

While in Massena Ernie was employed by various construction companies and was hired in 1967 by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors. He was a member of the Elks, V.F.W. and American Legion.

Ernie and Ruth enjoyed traveling and spending time on their boat. Both were former members of the Massena Unit of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary where Ernie served for a time as Staff Officer of Materials and Supply. Ernie retired from GM and later he and Ruth moved to Port Charlotte, FL.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Ruth (Prashaw); and his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Donald Horsman. Other survivors include: his nieces, Irene Horsman Fiore, Cindy Horsman Lord and Melinda Smith Gault; nephews, Joel Smith and Tom Smith; as well as grandnieces, Casey Lord, Kelci Valorz and Caitlin Smith; grandnephews, Cameron Lord, Jarid Fiore, Alex Smith, Justin Gault, and Ryan Gault; great-grandnephews, Jaxon Lord and Killian Gault; and great-grandnieces, Logan Lord and Annalise Marie Gault.

Ernie was predeceased by his parents and brother, William. He will be most remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, brother and uncle. He will also be remembered as one who was very proud to have been of service to his country.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Chuck and Jeni Gianotti for their friendship and support during Ernie’s illness and their continuing assistance to Ruth and the family after his death.

Virginia Alice Whitaker Beesmer

Our Beloved Mother, Virginia Alice Whitaker Beesmer 81, of 150 Stone Road, West Hurley, New York, passed to her eternal reward on Sunday August 6, 2017, in the home of her oldest son and daughter-in-Law, Rev. Donald and Linda Snedeker, of 34 Snedeker Rd Clifford Twp, Pa. 18470-7571, after a yearlong battle with auto-immune non-alcoholic liver disease.

She was born on November 28, 1935, in Mt. Marion N.Y., the daughter of the late Theodore (Ted) Whitaker and Elizabeth Law Snedeker. She was educated in Kingston and Sandy Creek, New York, area schools. In around 1951, she moved from the Kingston area to the Snedeker Family Farm in Lacona, New York, where she resided in the upstate New York area, before returning in 1974, back to the Kingston, New York area where she has resided for the last 43 years.

In the early part of her life she was closely associated with the Free Methodist Church and was baptized in the Old Tremper Avenue Free Methodist Church of Kingston, New York in 1939., by then Pastor, the late Rev. Lewis Smith. It is believed that she became a junior member of that church sometime later. She had many treasured memories of attending with her mother the summer annual Free Methodist Camp Meetings at Hancock N.Y., often traveling there by train from Kingston. During the last 40 years of her life, she was closely associated with and supported the Evangelical Wesleyan Church, and was a faithful supporter of the Fox Hill Camp Meeting, near Northville, N.Y., and attended the Lake Idlewild and Great Bend, Pa churches, when she was in the area. She also attended the Stone Ridge N.Y., Pilgrim Holiness Church for several years.

For most of her life she was a stay at home mom and housewife, but she did work for a time at a needle manufacturing supply company, in Syracuse, N.Y. She was the bookkeeper and secretary for the Beesmer’s Construction Co. INC., until it closed in 2011.

Her lifelong dedication for over 50 years was for the love, care, health, and happiness of her youngest disabled son, Thomas Bagalonis Jr. Her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren were the light of her life.

She is survived by her four sons, Rev. Donald D. Snedeker and wife Linda, Randy Snedeker and wife Kathy of Gloversville N.Y., Brian Bagalonis and wife Joan of West Hurley, N.Y., and Thomas Bagalonis Jr., of Woodstock N.Y., Two step daughters, 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and many dear friends.

She is pre-deceased by her three husbands; Robert C. Snedeker, Thomas Bagalonis Sr., and Donald G. Beesmer, along with her step-father Rev. Clarence A. Snedeker, a sister Marjorie Whitaker Gagne, and a nephew, Timothy A. Fracassee.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Simpson-Gaus, 411 Albany Ave, Kingston, NY 12401, on Thursday August 10, 2017, with viewing from 12-2, and the funeral will be held at 2:00 PM, Bishop W.L. Sarber, Rev. Donald D. Snedeker Jr., Rev. Donald D. Snedeker Sr., officiating. Interment will be in the family plot at the Mt. Marion, N.Y., Cemetery.

Charles J. Stanford son of the late Kenneth Stanford and Mary Conway Stanford. Born in Black River New York on October 27, 1932. Graduated from Black River High School where he was captain of the basketball and football teams. He served as an infantryman in the Army during the Korean War. Following the war he worked as a salesman in the beverage business for over 34 years, first at Watertown Bottling Company and later for Doldo Brothers. He married Joanne Sayers on December 6, 1958 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. They resided in Watertown for several years before moving to Florida in 1987. They have been residents of Deland, Florida for the past ten years. He is survived by his wife, Joanne and their two daughters, Paula Stevens (William) of Deland, Florida, and Tracy Stanford (Sharon) od Sackets Harbor, N.Y. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Heather Stoneking, Michael Stevens, Jon Chamberlain, and Paul Chamberlain and two great grandchildren Charles and Mitchel Stevens. He is predeceased by two brothers, George Trainham and Albert Trainham.
