Anna Marie Navarra Agosta

Anna Marie Navarra Agosta of Howard Beach, NY passed away on September 14, 2017 at Hospice Inn, NYC after a brief but devastating illness. The calling hours for Ann were held on Sunday September 17, 2017 at Seneca Chapel Ridgewood, NY. The funeral was Monday September 18, 2017 at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Ridgewood. Ann Marie was born June 29, 1955 in NYC to Joseph Navarra and Marianna Mancuso Navarra. She was raised in Watertown, NY and graduated from Watertown High School in 1974. Ann worked at the House of Good Samaritan (now Samaritan Medical) for a dozen years. Ann married Vincenzo Agosta in July 28, 1979 at Sacred Heart Church with Father Benoit Dostie officiating. Ann and her husband Vinnie moved to Brooklyn then Queens, NY where Vinnie is a mechanic who owns his own auto repair shop. Ann was a caretaker of many children over the years. Ann is survived by her husband Vincenzo, her daughter and husband Rosa and Joseph Daidone, a new granddaughter Isabella Anna of Staten Island, her mother-in-law Rose Agosta, of Brooklyn, a brother Joseph (Nancy Wearne-Navarra) of Watertown and their children Sarah (who shared a birthday with Ann), Michael, and Katherine and their children, a sister and brother-in-law Giacomo “Jack” and Vincenza “Enza” LaRussa of Brooklyn and their children Silvana Mauceli, Jacquelina Como, Rosa Cippilone, and Baldassare “Aldo” LaRussa and their children. Ann is as predeceased by her parents and half brothers William (Jean), Dominick, Leo, Jacob (Helen), John, Nelson (Clelia) and half sisters Frances Navarra, Theresa (Ed) Mentry and Betty (Bernard) Lawler. Surviving are sister-in laws Stella, Mary, and Antoinette Navarra. Ann was also a breast cancer survivor who was strong and had a positive attitude throughout the whole ordeal taking one day at a time and finding joy in everyday life. Ann loved her soap Days Of Our Lives as well as CSI and NCIS. Her favorite actor was Dylan McDermott. She loved to shop and was independent – walking to the Avenue and going around the city with the bus.

Ann Marie was a kind, gentle, thoughtful, person with a great love of her family and friends. She lovingly helped raise many children. Ann was very generous aunt and great aunt never missing a birthday or Christmas gift. Ann’s generosity extended to countless charities such as police, firemen, and park rangers. Ann and Vinnie were Godparents to both Katherine Navarra and Baldassare “Aldo” LaRussa.

Ann will be missed by family, friends and the many children she helped care for. She will be remembered for all she had done to make life better for those who were fortunate to have known her. May her spirit always be with us.


Robert Mitchell

Robert G. Mitchell, of Macomb Settlement Rd. Clayton passed away Friday evening at his home under the care of family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Robert was born May 27, 1931 in Watertown the son of H. Leigh and Ethel Allen Mitchell. He graduated from Chaumont High School in 1948.

On August 14, 1955 he married Dawn Paul. Together they developed a fine herd of quality Jersey cows with much hard work.They were veryproud of that herd. Robert also through the years worked for the State Highway Department and was a tradesman with George Bros. in Chaumont. Upon retirement, Robert was fondly known as the “ paperboy” for the Watertown Daily Times in the area. Dawn passed away in 2013.

Robert enjoyed farming and being a part of a once thriving farming community. He had a great love for his John Deere tractors and working the land.He enjoyed many hours of listeningto bluegrass music from many artists. Telling jokes and stories from his long life of experiences brought great pleasure and amusement to all through the years. Feeding the dogs from the dinner table also brought him great glee when he was told not to do so. For that, all dogs who lived here or came to visit loved him.

He is survived by three children: Connie Mitchell of Clayton, Colin and Tina Mitchell of LaFargeville, Carrie Mitchell of Clayton and his daughter-in-law Heather Mitchell of Harrisville. Grandchildren include: Summer Elliott, Dayna Elliott, Nathan Mitchell, Tyler Mitchell, Michael Simmons, Paul Mitchell, Jasmine Kimbrough and Haylee Nisbet. Great grandchildren are Alexander Dimanopoulos, Andreas Dimanopoulos, Ada Kimbrough. Predeased by a son Craig Mitchell in April.

He has a sister-in-law Jeanne Mitchell of Three Mile Bay whose husband Allen passed away in 2015.

A memorial service will be held at a day and time to be determined. Mark Hummel

Mark William Hummel passed away at home with his family at his side on October 1, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He was born September 10, 1957 in Syracuse, son of William A. and Gertrude Embesi Hummel. Mark has lived and worked on the St. Lawrence River for the past 25 years after falling in love with the area during family vacations. He was a gifted craftsman and has left his stamp on many river projects.

Mark is survived by his wife, Kathy, and beloved daughters, Maureen and Grace and, if only by marriage, his treasured son, Dennis. His cousin Jimmy and niece Margaret reside on Grenell Island, Clayton and hold a special place in Mark’s heart. Also surviving are Mark’s mother, Gertrude, his brother and wife, Stephen and Heather Hummel, nephews, Nicholas and Timothy, and brother, Patrick Hummel.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Clayton at 11:00AM on Thursday, October 5, 2017 followed by lunch at the Hummel’s home on Kehoe Tract Rd., Clayton. All are invited to attend. John R. Siver, 81, of Watertown passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on September 27, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse after a long and courageous battle with ALS.

LOWVILLE – Elton A. Lyndaker, 86, of West State Street passed away Monday afternoon, October 2, 2017 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Hospital, Utica.

The funeral with Military Honors will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. Burial will be at the conveniences of the family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marlene; two children and their spouses, Rene E. and Susan Lyndaker of Lowville; Todd A. and Pamela Lyndaker of Groton, NY; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward Lyndaker of Lowville, Olin and Mary Lyndaker of Copenhagen, Harvey and Jan Lyndaker of Middleport, NY, Robert Lyndaker of Copenhagen, Carl and Tammy Lyndaker of Lowville, Pauline Lyndaker of Lowville; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Arletha and Richard Bellinger of Lowville, Lois and Edward Clark of Greencove Springs, FL, Doris Grysikiewicz of Anaconda, Montana, Carolyn McNeil of Lowville, Charlotte and Gerald Millard of Lowville; seven grandchildren, Lyndsey Lyndaker Case (Jason), Sarah Lyndaker and fiance’ Chris Eisel, Justin Lyndaker, Isaac Lyndaker, Bradley Hart, Danielle (Josh) Levesque and Kylee Hart; six great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Cameryn, Marlee, Carter, Hadley, and Logan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a brother, Richard Lyndaker, a brother-in-law, Frank Grysikiewicz, a sister-in-law, Kathryn Lyndaker.

Mr. Lyndaker was born on September 11, 1931 in Watson, NY, a son of the late Alexander and Phyllis Edick Lyndaker. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1953. On December 16, 1960, he married Marlene A. Zehr at First Mennonite Church, New Bremen with Rev. Donald Jantzi, officiating. Together with his wife, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on Route 26, Lowville, from 1971-1988, when operation of the farm was taken over by their son and daughter-in-law, Rene and Susan Lyndaker.

Elton enjoyed going to the farm, riding motorcycle and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

GLENFIELD - Barbara V. Mazur, 93, died on Monday, October 2, 2017, at Lewis County General Hospital.

Mrs. Mazur was born December 4, 1923, in the town of Martinsburg, the daughter of the late Stephen D. and Anastasia (Ermola) Pleskach. Barbara attended General Martin High School and married Chester C. Mazur on June 9, 1945, in Fish Creek, NY with Rev. Rivette officiating.

Chet died in November of 1961.

After Chet was discharged from the Army, he and Barb built Mazur’s Tavern in Glenfield, where Barb’s spaghetti sauce became a favorite dish. In addition to her cooking skills, Barb loved traveling. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

She is survived by her three sons, Frederick S. Mazur (Ronald S.) of Kaiserslauten, Germany, Michael D. (Debra) Mazur of Greig; and Kevin G. (Cindy) Mazur of Oswego; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; her brother Stephen Pleskach, and a sister-in-law, Betty Pleskach both of Lowville. Her brother’s, Charles, John and Alex, sister’s Nina Vary, Helen Fetcie, Edith Lasher and Mary Roye predeceased her.

A private burial will be in Old Glendale Cemetery.

WATERTOWN, NY – James A. Priest, Sr., 87, of Watertown, NY passed away October 2, 2017 at home with his wife by his side.

Born December 5, 1929 in Watertown, the son of the late Kenneth (Edna) Priest and Lyla (David) Gregor. He graduated in 1947 from Watertown High School.

After high school, Mr. Priest joined the United States Army’s 328th Comm/Recon Division as an interceptor, stationed in Bad Aibling, Germany during the Korean War. He then worked at the United States Postal Service for over 30 years and was U.S. Postmaster in Carthage, NY upon retirement.

Mr. Priest was married to his devoted wife Catherine Bickel on August 4, 1951 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He was a lifetime member of the Blue Lodge Media Temple Shriners, a member of the Rotary Club of Carthage, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and was the former treasure for the Watertown Sportsman Club.

Mr. Priest enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Catherine; two daughters, Carol Priest, of Henderson and Kristine Sullivan of Watertown; four grandchildren, Jonathan Sullivan, Katelyn (James) Hunter, Michele Priest, Lindsay (Daniel) Herron; and four great-grandsons.

He was predeceased by his son, James A. Priest, Jr., and infant daughter, Cindy.

Arrangements are with Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown. There will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

DEFERIET – Barbara J. Peck, 64, of Riverside Drive, died Monday night, October 2, 2017 at Carthage Area Hospital.

Barbara was born on February 10, 1953 in West Carthage, a daughter of the late John C. and Wilma M. Fargo Peck. In 1971, she graduated from Carthage Central School. She went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Jefferson Community College in 1973. She was employed by the Army Air Force Exchange Service at Fort Drum for 25 years, retiring at age 50. Barbara then worked part-time at the Coffeen Street Kinney Drugs in Watertown for 13 years.

Barbara was a member of Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir. Since 1972, she was a member of Bethany Chapter #343 Order of The Eastern Star, Black River. She was also a lifetime member of the 4 River Valleys Historical Society.

She is survived by two brothers, John E. and his wife Helen Peck of Carthage; Harry W. and his wife Anna Peck of Deferiet; a sister, Mary A. Peck of Canandaigua; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and grand-nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, Dwane D. Peck, who died in 1988.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 1-4 PM at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc., 500 State St., Carthage. Lawrence G. Jessman, 75, Watertown, passed away Wednesday October 4th at the Samaritan Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 pm Friday, October 6th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Calling hours will be from 2 pm – 4 pm at the funeral home on Friday prior to the service. Burial will be for the convenience of the family.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; one son, Robert (Shannon) Jessman, Cape Cod; a daughter Rebecca Jessman, Binghamton; three grandchildren; three step-daughters Isabelle (Terry) Granger, Watertown, Jennifer (Mike) Clark, Carthage; Sheri Oliver and her companion Travis, Alexandria Bay; 5 step grandchildren; a brother Alan, Rochester; a sister Dawn Draper, Florida; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother James, a sister Mary Rita Prosser and a granddaughter Kelimarie Kurtz.

Larry was born in Watertown February 28, 1942, a son to Henry and Beulah Lake Jessman. He was a 1960 graduate from Watertown where he played football and lacrosse. Following graduation, he served in the US Air Force from 1960-1964.

Larry returned to Watertown after his honorable discharge and worked for Calavo’s in Sackets Harbor and Watertown and was a warehouseman at Fort Drum for many years, later going to work in the warehouse at Wal-Mart until retiring.

Larry enjoyed sports and played Red & Black football. He was a former member of the Watertown Elks Club and was a current member of the Watertown American Legion Post 61 and the Watertown Eagles Club.

Joyce Parsell

Joyce Parsell passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the age of 98.

Joyce was born in Fulton, New York and got her teaching credentials from State University of New York at Oswego. She taught elementary school ranging from one room classrooms to individuals grade levels. Joyce taught all of her adult life and retired from teaching and then traveled.

She enjoyed skiing, traveling, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of her favorite past-times was spending her summers at the cottage that she and her husband, Jack, had in New York watching the beautiful sunsets on Lake Ontario.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the United Presbyterian Church, Sackets Harbor, NY, with Reverend Melodie Long officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am proceeding the service. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Beaver Falls, NY. Agnes C. Rice, age 71 years, of Hudson, N.Y., passed away on October 4, 2017, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, N.Y. She was born on November 26, 1945, in Cairo, N.Y. and is the daughter of the late Fred and May (Hyvonen) Roy.

During Agnes’ lifetime, she was employed at Stiefel Laboratories in East Durham, N.Y. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband Richard J. Rice who predeceased her on December 15, 2015. Survivors include two daughters, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends. Arthur F. “Skip” Nack Jr., 85 of Livingston died Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at The Pines of Catskill. Born January 5, 1932 in Hudson he was the son of the late Arthur F. Nack Sr. and Gladys (Cole) Nack. Skip had served in the US Navy from March 1952 to March 1956. Along with his brother William; he owned and operated Nack Brother’s Garage of Hudson for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Reformed Church. He served as supervisor of the Mount Pleasant Rural Cemetery for many years. He was Commodore of the Roe Jan Creek Boat Club and past Master of Widow’s Son Lodge #7 F&AM of Livingston. Skip was a craftsman who enjoyed building toys and furniture. Survivors include: his brother, William and sister in law Claudia Nack of Livingston, grandchildren Christopher, Shianne, Amanda, and Michelle. Sister-in-laws: Pamela Glasser of Claverack and Edith Bryant of CT., as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Karol and daughter Lori. Calling hours will be 10 to 11 am Saturday, October 7th. at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home of Germantown. A graveside service for Timothy E. Denny will be held on Sunday, October 8th at 1:30 pm in the Adams Rural Cemetery. Mr. Denny passed away October 23, 2016 at his home in Mansfield, Texas.
